He was the son of a respected Spanish colonial family, and he and his parents, Antonio López de Santa Anna(father) and Manuela Pérez de Lebrón(mother), belonged to the criollo middle class. They were wealthy enough to send their son to school. His father served for a time as a sub-delegate for the Spanish province of Veracruz.

In June 1810, Santa Anna at age 16 joined the Fijo de Veracruz infantry regiment as a cadet, against the wishes of his parents, who wanted him to pursue a career in commerce. There, he was under the command of Joaquín de Arredondo.

He was also a dictator.

He was a part of the Goliad Massacre and executed more than 350 Texan prisoners.

Santa Anna marched north to bring Texas back under Mexican control. On March 6, 1836, at the Battle of the Alamo, Santa Anna's forces killed 187-250 Texan defenders and later executed more than 350 Texan prisoners at the Goliad Massacre (March 27, 1836).

Antonio Lopez de Santa was born on Friday, February 21, 1794 in Jalapa. He died on Wednesday, June 21, 1876, in Mexico City. His ethnicity was Hispanic.

He was the son of a respected Spanish colonial family, and he and his parents, Antonio López de Santa Anna and Manuela Pérez de Lebrón, belonged to the criollo middle class. Antonio Lopez de Santa dated Ines Garci a (wife) and amongst other amorous encounters was Mari a Dolores de Tosta (wife).

He was a hero of Tampico
