Scholarship Sportsmanship Citizenship Page 1 The Austral Review Austral Public School PH 9606 0312 F: 9606 0080 E: [email protected] www.austral-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Issue 8 Term2 Week 6 Friday 7th June 2019 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Yesterday our 3 to 6 students participated in a Cowpasture Community of School Gala Day at Bringelly Oval. It was touch and go weather wise beforehand but the children were so happy that it could finally go ahead as last year all attempts to hold a Gala Day were washed out by rain. The children had a wonderful time and as usual showed great skill and sportsmanship. Thank you so much to Miss Costantino for her organisation of the day and to all of the teachers who coached and supervised teams, John Edmondson High School students who refereed all games and to parents who came along to support our children. On Wednesday, 5 th June, five of our Year 6 students attend John Edmondson High School to participate in a Science Primary Enrichment Day. This is an opportunity that is offered each year to the schools whose students will attend John Edmondson next year. As you can imagine, it is a great experience for the students to participate in science experiments in the high school ‘lab’ environment and using their specialised equipment. It was not only fun, but a great day of learning for Reece Bednar, Jasmine Mills, Tahnee Zammit, Lena Adnum and Isabel Trueba. Thank you to the JEHS teachers and our student’s parents and carers for transporting them to and from the high school. P & C Meeting On Tuesday 18 th June at 9:15am the next P & C meeting will be held in the Teacher Professional Learning Room (end room on K – 2 block of classrooms - near back gate). At this meeting Mr McKay will present a new School Discipline Policy for parent approval and feedback. This document is in line with Department of Education requirements and includes all of the positive approaches that we implement at Aus- tral PS as well as the possible consequences that may occur if needed. When we have parent approval it will become our official policy and guide for responding to incidents at school. We also hope to show examples of some of our students participating in the ‘Friendology’ program for social and emo- tional learning that is currently being trialled in Mr McKay and Mrs Ayuso’s classes and will soon be adopted in all clas- ses K – 6. We hope you can join us. Dance Program for School Concert Just a reminder that the Dance 2b fit program will start in Week 8 (week after next) and will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. As previously mentioned, this is a compulsory component of the curriculum and children will assessed on their participation and this will be commented on in Semester 2 reports. If for any reason your child is unable to partici- pate, please contact either the class teacher or myself to confirm reasons. Chance Card Whole School Reward Day Congratulation to all of our students who have worked so hard at being safe respectful learners and earning Chance Card rewards. I’m very happy to announce that the Chance Card tub is full and we will have a reward day next Friday 14th June. 3 – 6 students will watch a movie on the new screen in the hall during middle session and K – 2 students will have a disco in the school hall from 2 – 3pm. Well done Austral students! Happy 30 th Birthday to Austral Community Preschool On Saturday the Preschool celebrated 30 years of providing this wonderful service for the Austral community and its pre- schoolers. I was privileged to attend and to help Miss Lia to cut the cake. The party was attended by past and present families who obviously cherish the preschool and its staff. We wish them a very happy birthday! Painting You may have noticed that the school is looking brighter after the painting of the cladding, railings and classroom doors in the primary side of the school and the doors in the hall as well. It is nice to see that side of the school get some TLC. The rest should be completed shortly. Jan Rogers
