• A targeted young students’ research program.Initiated in 2007 in Sheba Medical Center, by Prof. Anat Achiron.

Aims:• To create young and multidisciplinary research teams

with motivated and exceptional students in their early years of education in medicine.

• Develop a platform that will strengthen students' knowledge and practice, and train them to be research-related physicians.

Arrow Project: Rationale

• Today, with the extreme overflow of information, more and more research questions in the various fields of medicine require deep understanding of various aspects related to the clinics, therapy, epidemiology, imaging, immunology, rehabilitation and quality of symptom management.

• To face this abundance of information, the Arrow Project approach is targeted at building specialized and flexible teams, working together in order to address complicated interdisciplinary research issues.

Arrow Project: Concept• The designed concept of the Arrow Project is to

incorporate medical students from the 2nd year and forward into clinical & basic research.

• Accordingly, students are offered to participate in varying research studies, from the very beginning with formation of an idea or a query, to the presentation of the results in medical conferences and international publications.

• A targeted research project is designed for each student according to his/her interests.

Arrow Project: The process

• Accepted students are required to work 7 hours/week in the project (maximum 30 hours/month) from 10/10/2021- 30/06/2022 (9 months).

• Students receive a monthly salary from Sheba MC.

• NY students receive an annual grant.

• Students and mentors participate in the monthly meetings (Friday mornings) and present the research they are working on.

Monthly Meeting Program- Friday (08:30-12:00):-Guest lecture-Introduction with Scientific writing/Statistics methods -Presentations of the studies

Arrow Project: The process

• Special emphasis is made to teach and educate students in issues like: – Study design

– Literature review

– Statistical methods

• In addition to being involved in clinical research, "wetting the hands and mind" from the early steps of research work, students: – Practice lectures & presentations

– Present data in scientific meetings

– Involved in writing scientific papers

Each tutor + student in the Arrow Project is entitled to two hours of consultation with Dr. Tomer Ziv-Baran on research methods.

• In the middle and at the end of the year, all participants will be asked to fill out feedback on their work on the project.

• Your answers will be forwarded to us and used for improvement purposes only.

• The answers will be kept secret and will not be passed on.

Arrow Project: Scientific Publications

• At the end of the year there will be a competition between the studies published in the scientific journals and the winning research will receive an award from Prof. Afek.

• Therefore, we encourage scientific publication of the research work carried out on the Arrow project.

• Please note - In the author’s affiliation you should indicate: Arrow project, Sheba medical center.

Arrow Project: Publications Booklet

• The Arrow Project is celebrating 15 years !!!

• We intend to publish a booklet that will include all the scientific publications published by students and their mentors as part of their work on the project.

• If you published a scientific article on a research project carried out as part of the project - please send us the full article in a PDF format as published and indicate the name of the scientific journal and the date of publication.

Arrow Project: Outstanding Student

• Furthermore, at the end of the year, an outstanding student and supervisor are selected and receive an honors scholarship.

Arrow Project: High School Students

• 15 students and mentors will be joined by high school student.

• The high school students will be coordinated by Dr. Gilad Halpert.

• Each of this group will have an annual budget of 1,500 NIS for research uses: – Statistical analysis– Language editing– Poster preparation– Presentation at a scientific conference.

• In order to receive the grant, you need to submit a detailed and reasoned request in advance.
