Editor’s Letter... Those of you with children in year 6 will be experiencing a jam packed agenda as they prepare to move up to their new school in September.
It’s an emotional time for parents as we accept the inevitable! Our little darlings are growing up and leaving behind the safety and comfort of primary school. I wish all year 6 students the very best of luck as they take the next big step in life. Likewise, congratulations to all those who have studied hard with their GCSE and A levels. I hope you are rewarded for your efforts and wish you success in your next step, whether its further education, training or employment.
The deadline for the August issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 10th July. The August Arrow will be delivered from Friday 19th July 2013!

The 28th Doncaster (St Edmunds) Scout Group had a leaking flat roof over their toilets and storerooms of their hall on Anchorage Lane. After receiving a grant from Coalfield Regeneration, the balance to complete the new roof was donated from Sprotbrough and Cusworth Parish Council. Fund raising has allowed the group to repair the interior damage, making the hall watertight and back to a good condition. The 28th Doncaster (St Edmunds) Scout Group wish to thank the Sprotbrough and Cusworth Parish Council for their donation.
Thank you from Sprotbrough W.I.
Many thanks to all those who supported the Spring Fayre in April. Members were delighted to donate £850 to Wendy Moon, representing ‘Doncaster Young Carers’, at their June meeting.

2013 67th Doncaster Scout Road Race and Gala Yet again, despite the strong wind, we received even stronger community support for our annual road race and gala on the New Lane playing fields in Sprotbrough this year. 210 runners competed in the 6,5 Km road race to win the coveted trophies in each of our categories. Full details will be available on the 67th Scout Web site. In summary, Jim Munro ,first to finish with a time of 23 minutes and 51 seconds, overcame the force of the wind and was welcomed back onto the field by the many visitors to the gala. The first lady back onto the field, was Karen Kidney, with a time of 30 minutes and 4 seconds. She was also able to retain her title position from last year as first female over the winning line in her age category.
67th Scout, James Watkinson, won both titles of first Sprotbrough Scout and Danum District Scout, with a time of 34 minutes and 57 seconds. His fellow scout, Jack Roberts, (photograph on page 9), also successfully completed the road race. Jack was raising money for the Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire charity, in memory of Alastair Graves, Beaver leader at 67th Doncaster, who sadly loss his life to a brain tumour in April 2013. “Knowing I was doing this for Alastair kept me going throughout the race” said Jack. Anyone who missed the opportunity to sign Jack’s form, can still donate by contacting 853932 for further details.
Back on the field, thanks to everyone’s efforts over the weekend, the Pasta Party and Gala event has raised over £4,800 profit for 67th Doncaster group. “THANK YOU EVERYONE!” This is a fantastic amount which will sustain the variety of activities that all the groups undertake. It also allows support in preparation for the 67t Centenary Celebrations throughout 2014 . So
WATCH THIS SPACE!
Janet Graves was presented with the annual Sprotbrough Parish Trophy for contributing to the 67th Scout group organisation this year. Congratulations to Janet for all her hard work, commitment and effort.
