Memorial Day is right around the corner as well on Monday May 29 . Remember Memorial Day always falls on the last Monday in May and honors the men and women who died while serving our Country. The wearing of poppies in honor of America’s fallen is traditionally done on Memorial Day (not Veterans Day). The origin of the red poppy as a modern-day symbol of this day was actually the idea of an American woman, Miss Moina Michael. Flag Day 2017, is a holiday observed annually on June 14. It is a day that commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States that took place in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Post and Honor Guard always celebrate this day with our Boy Scouts by properly destroying our country’s flags. Please remember to bring your unserviceable flags into the Post prior to the event. The Army Birthday is also on June 14 and we will have an Army Birthday cake for all to enjoy. We are 241 years old, established in 1775. I’d also like to wish fathers a Happy Father’s Day to those applicable on June 18. As a reminder, we welcome our Legionnaire's to join us on the fourth Wednesday of every month for our General membership meetings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. (1930-2030 hrs.).
