The town of Woodside cele-brated a 90-year tradition on Saturday, May 5: its

annual May Day parade, carnival and barbecue. After the May Day Fun Run, the parade began at 10 a.m. with the roar of two San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office motorcy-clists leading the way. They were followed by the parade grand marshal, Steve Frank, assistant principal at Woodside School. Hundreds of parade partici-pants rolled, rode and walked down Woodside Road from

gartners rode in style in a vin-tage fire truck restored by the Woodside Fire Protection Dis-trict, and there were alumni May Day Kings from classes of 1942 and 1943

riding in a refurbished army command vehicle. The Portola Valley Cub Scouts, Brownies, Daisies and Girls Scout troops of Woodside also marched in the parade with pride. Representatives from the Woodside Town Council, Wood-side school board, Woodside

Nina Genisman’s absolute love of all the beauty that surrounded her is her legacy to all of the lives she touched.

On April 25 in the presence of her family’s love, Nina moved on to greener pastures.

Born on August 4, 1933 in Oakland, California, Nina had a life of passion for children and horses. As a young woman, she competed at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This vibrant passion continued to lead her throughout her life of mentoring, teaching, judging, training and directing riding academies, including the direction of the early developmental stages of Spring Down Equestrian Center.

Nina met Robert Genisman in 1950 at a riding academy in New Jersey. They rode in competition against each other ‘with Nina always winning” according to Bob. When Nina’s family returned to Oakland, she worked at St. Francis Riding Academy in San Francisco. Bob joined the Navy and completed his 4-year military service. Destiny stepped back in the picture, when immediately after getting off the ship, Bob found St. Francis and literally ran into Nina. The next loving chapter began when they were married in 1956.

Nina is survived by husband Robert

Genisman; children Elizabeth Huber, David Genisman, Linda and David B e l l e v i l l e ; g r a n d c h i l d r e n Joshua Converse, Russell Belleville, Erin Belleville, Ryan Huber, Jessie Huber; great-grandchildren Alexandra Converse, Mercy Converse and Emery Huber; siblings Suzie Mason, William Curley, Judy Ranzer; as well as her loving in-law family. Nina was predeceased in childhood by her sister, Jean Curley.

A Celebration of Nina’s Life will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012, 3:00 pm at Spring Down Equestrian Center, 725 Portola Road, Portola Valley, California.

For those who wish to honor Nina, the family suggests tax-deductible donations to the therapeutic center DreamPower Horsemanship, 12425 Foothill Ave. #8, San Martin, CA 95046. Donations may also be made online via PayPal at www.dreampowerhorsemanship.com

Menlo Park is ready to cut the ribbon on its newest community facility. The Arrillaga Family Gymnastics Center will hold a grand opening Friday, May 11. The gymnastics center joins the gymnasium and recreation center, which were also reno-

vated through developer John Arrillaga’s donations. The new $12 million, 22,500-square-foot facility, located at 800 Alma St., offers young gymnasts a place to train and gives residents another place to take exercise classes. The grand opening festivities

run from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. After listening to remarks by Mayor Kirsten Keith and City Manager Alex McIn-tyre, visitors can tour the center, watch demonstrations and join in free family activities.

“The most important

lessons were learned on a

Mother’s lap.”

HappyMother’s Day

“It is an excellent way to get information out to people in my market sphere because it is an excellent newspaper. It carries area news and features that people in Woodside, Portola Valley and Atherton want to know about. When I list exceptional homes and estates, I want to get the word, and the pictures, out. The Almanac is a great way to do that.”

“The Almanac has been a trusted part of my Real Estate

marketing strategy.”– Ed Kahl
