Great ideas – even in the smallest details.Xenon Adaptive Headlights light up the road with brilliant clarity. Adaptive Headlights illuminate the road around curves based on steering wheel input, as do Cornering Lights, a new feature that uses a refl ector in the foglight housing to provide more lateral illumination. Corona light rings function as daytime driving lights and parking lights.

The optional Panoramic moonroof features two-piece glass panels. The larger section slides open at the touch of a button; each panel can be tilted up at the rear for draft-free ventilation. Or close the power-operated sun protection blind for cool shade.

Large, tinted side-view mirrors offer excellent all-around visibility. The right-side mirror tilts down automatically when in reverse, making parallel parking a breeze; a memory setting is also standard. When equipped with the Premium Package, the side-view mirrors are automatic-dimming, with a power fold-in function.

The dual exhaust tailpipes of the X5 4.8i add the sparkle of oval chrome-plated tips; on the X5 3.0si, they feature handsome, round stainless steel tailpipe tips.

The optional Head-up Display projects important travel data, such as current speed, navigation system directions, cruise control, etc., on the windshield in your line of vision. In addition to selecting data and screen brightness, the X5 lets you adjust the height of the display, to concentrate fully on the road. (Not available with green band windshield.)

The optional rear-seat entertainment system lets you watch DVDs on an 8-inch color LCD screen, or listen to CDs through headphone jacks. The system includes a wireless remote control, two headphone jacks and an external video source connection; supports wireless headsets.

Programmable memory keys allow the driver to store six favorite settings for radio stations, navigation system directions,1 telephone numbers1 and more, on easily accessible buttons.

Optional third row seats2 offer two forward-facing, individually fold ing seats that give the X5 the ability to transport up to seven occupants. They can also be folded down for a fl exible mix of passengers and cargo space.

Driving the new X5 4.8i is an exercise in absolute power – with plenty in reserve. Its 4.8-liter V-8 wields the irresistible force of 350 lb-ft of torque, and 350 horses that sprint from 0-60 in 6.4 seconds.1

The new X5 3.0si’s inline six-cylinder makes good use of BMW’s lightweight magnesium/aluminum composite crankcase. Calling on 260 horses and 225 lb-ft of torque, this ultra-smooth engine launches the X5 3.0si to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds.1

Helping both models attain dramatic acceleration with greater fuel efficiency is a 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission with new E-Shift technology. Gear changes are smoother and quicker, and the new automatic transmission lever cleverly frees up more storage space – adding to the pleasure of your X5 driving experience. 1 BMW AG test results. There are many reasons why the all-new X5 4.8i and X5 3.0si SAVsdrive more like sports cars than SUVs. Chief among these are two new engines for the X5s that will make paved highways beckon like back roads: a 350-horsepower V-8 and a 260-horsepower inline six.

Compared to their precedessors, both the V-8 and the inline six deliver 35 more horses. But the real miracle is that with all this added power, they deliver greater fuel efficiency, too. BMW’s revolutionary Valvetronic electronic valve control system uses variable valve lift to let the engines “breathe” more easily, enabling both engines to squeeze more miles from each drop of gas. Whether you’re hauling a trailer up a steep hill or cruising through town, BMW’s Double-VANOS technology “steplessly” selects the best intake and exhaust valve timings to keep the engines running smooth and clean, with quick and potent acceleration on command.
