The Act put 2 key duties on the Government :
1.to produce a strategy for adults with autism
2.to produce statutory guidance for local councils and local health bodies
‘All adults with autism are able to live fulfilling and rewarding lives within a
society that accepts and understands them. They can get a diagnosis and access
support if they need it, and they can depend on mainstream public services to treat them fairly as individuals, helping them make the
most of their talents.’
Increasing awareness of autism among frontline professionals
pathway for diagnosis in every area
improving access to the services and support needed to live independently within the community
helping adults with autism into work, and
enabling local partners to plan and develop appropriate services
Messages so far from adults with autism in York
more information about what support is available
more opportunities for social inclusion and befriending
more help with finding employment and more job opportunities
First joint strategy, and is still at draft stage:
work within the guidelines and the vision of ‘Fulfilling and Rewarding Lives’ whilst putting it into a local context.
is not complete and will need to be reviewed on a regular basis.
