I am very pleased to have the opportunity to extend to you this invitation to the 53rd ICHPER·SD Anniversary World Congress & Exposition hosted and sponsored by the Sport Science Association of Egypt (SSAE) in Cairo, Egypt. The World Congress will take place on December 19 – 22, 2011, and everyone active in the areas of health, physical education, recreation and leisure, sport and the Olympic movement, and dance is invited to participate in this world-class academic and scientific forum and exposition.

The theme for the 53rd World Congress & Exposition will be “Sport and Exercise for Health, Fitness and Wellness”, encapsulating two of our organization’s missions: 1) to promote quality physical education (including health, movement related physical activity, recreation and leisure, and dance education) and sport especially in schools and other learning institutions; and 2) to pursue optimum health and well-being through exercise and good nutrition throughout one’s lifetime. We, the members of ICHPER·SD, have been leading the movement for sustainable and vibrant scholarly activities (i.e. research and publications, organizing congresses for presentation and dissemination of findings, and cutting edge knowledge) while exalting the importance of daily physical exercise. We seek better methodologies for staying healthy through an active lifestyle for all global citizens – confidently pursuing that path while keeping in mind the importance of gender equity and enhancing good health for all age groups, despite any mental or physical challenge.

We recognize the promotion of gender equity in physical education as a very significant part of our mission, a principle of democracy, and a fundamental human right in education for all. ICHPER·SD has pursued and advanced this agenda through many world and regional congresses in the region: the 1999 World Congress in Cairo, Egypt; the 1st Middle East Regional Congress in Cairo in 2000; the 2nd in Tehran, Iran in 2003; 3rd in Doha, Qatar in 2006, and 4th in Alexandria, Egypt in 2008, and most recently the 52nd World Congress in Doha, Qatar in 2010. In addition, we organized the 1st Middle East Leadership Conference & Workshop in Bahrain in 2005 and have scheduled the 2nd Middle East Leadership Conference for July 19 – 20, 2011 in Cairo, Egypt.

Nevertheless, we still have a Big Question. Are there compulsory physical education programs for all boys and girls in the Arabic and Persian speaking countries in their pre-schools, elementary, middle and high schools? I am eagerly anticipating a significant volume of research papers studying this and other important issues for our December congress.

The 53rd ICHPER·SD Anniversary World Congress & Exposition is a gathering to solidify our endeavors and to share responsibilities for our global mission while extending marketable opportunities to related business sectors. We will be updated on the status of our mission and new scientific and pragmatic discoveries to create new methodologies and directions for our sustainable advancement. It is our firm belief and scientific fact and experience that, through this world congress, again our dimension of knowledge is highlighted and expanded, our search for wisdom advanced, our depth of understanding deepened, and our inquiries in science answered. With these congresses we are in a better position to serve our profession and our program beneficiaries in Egypt, the Arabic and Persian speaking region and around the world.

The International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport, and Dance (ICHPER·SD) is one of the oldest (e.g. conceived in 1950 & founded in 1958), largest (e.g. serving professionals in 204 countries) and most prestigious (e.g. having held 33 world congresses, 32 regional congresses & numerous forums, conferences and symposia) international umbrella organizations. It consists of individual professional members, institutions, national and international organizations in the 8 geographical regions (i.e., Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, North America, and Oceania). ICHPER·SD has been working in a partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for 49 years and with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the last 15 years.

ICHPER·SD is truly fortunate that the Sport Science Association of Egypt (SSAE) is undertaking the challenge to host and sponsor the 53rd World Congress, for this timely World Congress can only continue the momentum for physical education and sport that we have been building in Egypt, the Middle East region and around the world. We, the members of ICHPER·SD, would like to extend our appreciation to and recognition of those who have made an exceptional contribution to the actualization of this world congress: Dr. Farouk Abdel-Wahab, President, WCEOC’2011 and the Sport Science Association of Egypt; Dr. Mosaad Ewies, Secretary General, WCEOC’2011 and Vice President for ICHPER·SD Middle East; Dr. Adel Elnashar, ICHPER·SD Secretary General; and each member of the WCEOC’2011 Executive Committee.

We look forward to seeing you at the 53rd World Congress in Cairo in December! It will be a great occasion to experience the winds of change coming to one of the world’s newest democracies while exploring the magnificent treasures of Egypt’s great ancient civilization. Thank you.

The 53rd ICHPER·SD Anniversary World Congress Guidelines for Abstracts

• The Abstract must be typed in English or typed in Arabic with 12 point font size or the Arabic font style that must be chosen by

WCEOC’2011 within the lines of the form, clearly showing the content to be presented. Please visit the website for the official abstract form in MS WORD format.

• Each person is permitted to submit and be FIRST author on only one abstract but may be a co-author of as many other abstracts as desired. The author named FIRST must submit the abstract and must be the PRESENTER at the Congress, assuming that the submitter has met all requirements; otherwise both the FIRST author and PRESENTER must register with the World Congress and ICHPER•SD as a member.

• The ICHPER•SD Middle East Regional Board of Governors is authorized to establish its own rules pertaining to the

ICHPER•SD membership requirement for all authors listed in the Arabic abstracts and manuscripts.

• Each Abstract submitter MUST indicate his/her presentation preference—ORAL Presentation Session (30 minutes), POSTER Presentation Session, and/or SYMPOSIUM/WORKSHOP Session (120 minutes).

• The deadline for submitting an abstract without a manuscript is October 14, 2011. The deadline for submitting an abstract

with the complete text of its manuscript is also October 14, 2011. All abstracts must be submitted with proof of current ICHPER•SD membership. The abstract will be accepted subject to the approval of the English Scientific Committee or Arabic Scientific Committee.

Submitters must then register for the conference by October 31, 2011 or they will NOT be given a presentation slot or be published in the proceedings if they have submitted a manuscript.
