THE  ANTI-‐MOTIVATION

•  I  don't  know  how  to  sell  myself.  •  I  wasn't  raised  that  way.  •  I  was  taught  to  be  humble.  •  It's  hard  for  me  to  talk  about  my

accomplishments.

THE  CLICHÉ  IS  TRUE:  PRACTICE  MAKES  PERFECT

•  FIND  SOMEONE  TO  HELP  YOU  WITH  A  MOCK  INTERVIEW

•  DON’T  BE  SENSITIVE  TO  CONTRUCTIVE  CRITICISM

•  THINK  AHEAD  ABOUT  POTENTIAL,  BASIC  QUESTIONS    – WHY  ARE  YOU  INTERESTED  IN  THE  POSITION?  – HAVE  SOME  CASE  STUDIES  READY  TO  DISCUSS?  – WHAT  IS  YOUR  SUPERVISORY  STYLE?  – WHY  DO  YOU  WANT  TO  WORK  HERE?

RESEARCH  YOURSELF

•  HOW  IS  MY  CURRENT  PLACE  OF  WORK  BETTER  SINCE  I  GOT  THERE?

•  CAN  I  QUANTIFY  OR  ASSESS  MY  TIME  THERE?  •  HOW  DO  I  PUT  INFO  ABOUT  MYSELF  INTO  WINNING  TALKING  POINTS?

•  WHAT  DO  MY  EVALUATIONS  SAY  ABOUT  ME?

LEAVE  THE  HUMILITY  AT  THE  DOOR

1.  KNOW  YOUR  WORTH  2.  CONVINCE  YOURSELF  THAT  YOU’RE  THE

ONLY  PERSON  FOR  THE  JOB.  IF  YOU  CONVINCE  YOURSELF,  YOU  CONVINCE  THE  SEARCH  COMMITTEE

3.  WALK  AND  SPEAK  WITH  CONFIDENCE  4.  MOST  IMPORTANTLY,  BE  DOGMATIC

(EXPRESSING  PERSONAL  OPINIONS  OR  BELIEFS  AS  IF  THEY  CANNOT  BE  DOUBTED)
