What is the YMCA Youth Summit? The YMCA Youth Summit, hosted by the four Mercer County YMCAs (Hamilton, Hopewell, Princeton and Trenton) will be a one-day youth-led, youth designed convening for a diverse group of 200+ teens, ages 14-18 years old across the county, who share a passion for service and wish to be the positive change in their communities. The Summit will take place in early summer on Friday, June 29 at the Conference Center of Mercer County Community College . Please join us as a member of the Advisory Council for the inaugural 2018 YMCA Youth Summit What will the Advisory Council do? The Advisory Council will be made up of caring adults willing to serve as advisors and mentors to our Youth Steering Committee, as well as their communities that will be leading and organizing the Summit. We welcome skills of all kinds: in operations, finance, fundraising/public relations, marketing, communications, and program. Our young leaders will be leading the charge and the Advisory Council members will be asked to assist on an episodic basis, working with the committees, to be a sounding board and support system for our young organizers and help them achieve their goals. Meet the young people leading the effort, hear about their plans and learn more how you can help make this event a great success. What is the YMCA Youth Summit?

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Mentor and Volunteer, YMCA Youth Summit Advisory Council

Supported by: YMCA Youth Summit Facilitator

Dates: January to June 2018

Summary of Position:

Members of the Advisory Council will serve as mentors and guides to the youth leaders of the YMCA Youth Summit; Advisory Council members will provide advice, counsel, and professional expertise to the youth members so they can successfully plan and execute the Youth Summit event successfully. Advisory Council members will also coach youth in areas of leadership, strategy, skill building and personal development.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrate an ongoing desire and commitment to contribute to the mission and objectives of the YMCA and specifically, the YMCA Youth Summit goals.

Lend professional skills and expertise in the areas of leadership, strategy, event planning, marketing, fundraising, budgeting/finance and communications to youth members of the Steering Committee.

Participate in youth development training to learn mentoring language, principles and strategies to coach and advise youth leaders (ages 14 -18 years old.)

Act as an ambassador and advocate for the YMCA Youth Summit in the community by identifying partners and providing access to potential supporters/sponsors.

Assist in identifying and building database of donor targets for sponsorships; identify a select group of personal solicitation targets.

Support and attend the YMCA Youth Summit.

Participate in the evaluation of the YMCA Youth Summit.

Meeting Attendance:

Complete one Youth Development training.

Attend Youth Steering Committee meetings and subcommittee meetings on episodic basis, depending on topic and schedule.

Attend the conference for a portion or for the entire day.
