Arena y Esteras in Villa el Salvador, Peru

The possibility of developing my own program, to help people in Peru, and also to conduct research.

At the beginning, I was worried about the relationship I would establish with the people. Who am I to tell them I am here to help?

Being involved in this program has given me the tools to find my point of departure for my research. Now, it’s not only about me and gathering information, but also trying to help and passing along my knowledge.

My Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology.

My family and my guitar.

The sound of the sea in the morning.

The Chalkboard Project in Portland, Oregon

I am most excited to be involved with The Chalkboard Project’s CLASS Project which utilizes undervalued teachers in the education reform conversation. This is the first time I will be venturing out on my own for more than 6 weeks; I will be in an unfamiliar city with no family or friends.

I knew I wanted to work with and learn from The Chalkboard Project, but I needed funding. I also knew that I wanted to have a structured reflection process with other Moellership recipients and Center staff.

Helping to restart the collaboration between the Center and the Rez, Leadership LOGIC.

My family. They are the best support system in the world.

I don’t think that I could ever choose just one soundtrack! I am a big fan of mix tapes.

World Relief in Nashville, Tennessee

The opportunity to work hands on with a large group of North African and Middle Eastern refugees while also learning about refugee resettlement policy and programs across the U.S.

My response to hearing refugees’ stories this summer.

There are not many paid summer positions that allow me to serve in my interest area of the Middle East and refugees; therefore, I decided to apply so I can concentrate on volunteering full time without worrying about finances.

Having had the opportunity to live abroad in Amman, Jordan for a year. The people I have met here have changed my life.

I LOVE Crystal light. They don’t sell Crystal light in Jordan, so my mom shipped a whole box full to me.

Right now I would say that “Little Wonders” by Rob Thomas defines my life.

Medical Doctor

Class of 2015

FSUCARES, Panama

The opportunity to get outside of my comfort box. Living within a community where hardly any English will be spoken at all, I am guaranteed to return to the United States with a vastly increased proficiency of the Spanish language!

The opportunity to get outside of my comfort box. I guess it kind of makes sense that I am most excited and most nervous about the same thing.

For many years, I have wanted to live in a Spanish speaking country in order to improve my fluency. I felt it would help me to be a much better medical practitioner in the long-run.

Gaining acceptance into medical school. Ever since I was 16 years old, I knew I wanted to become a doctor!

FUN!

Probably a Rise Against album!

After speaking with past Moellership recipients, it struck me how special this opportunity is. I believe strongly that service is part of a holistic college education. For me, this meant doing service abroad and at home.

I always put a lot of pressure on myself to do well as a student, citizen, and daughter. I hope I am able to have the impact I outlined in my project proposal.

It was actually something I put off for several years, but after three summers at Camp Boggy Creek, and being really inspired by work I was doing in Kenya last fall, I knew I was ready to apply.

I am my proudest anytime I am able to reflect on something I’ve done and remember how petrified I used to be to do it.

Very few things. Obviously clean water and food, but I have also found I am happiest when I have regular access to the internet. A guitar and a kitten are nice to have too.

I am probably only picking this because it is my favorite show, but I am a really big fan of the Grey’s Anatomy soundtrack.
