The 2007 Apache Mission Trip: A Life Changing Experience.

Greg and Beth Smith moved to Show Low, AZ in 2004 to start Dunamis Ministries, which serves Indians living on the nearby Apache Indian Reservation.

Every summer groups of adults and teens from various churches travel to Show Low in order to volunteer with Dunamis Ministries.

In August of 2007, I led a group of 12 adults for a week long service project with Dunamis Ministries.

Their ministry to the Apache Indians includes:

•Serving at White Mt. Christian Church•Teaching GED to inmates at the local prison•Mentoring addicts at the Rainbow Treatment Center•Volunteering at the Pregnancy Resource Center

Teaching GED to InmatesFew Apache inmates have earned a GED.

Every Tuesday and Thursday Greg offers GED lessons for the inmates.

Before our GED time, the inmates requested Kevin play “Folsom Prison Blues”.

Greg baptized this lady after a Sunday Morning Service.

Please Don’t Tell My Wife That I Can Sweep

A meal is served before the Wednesday night service.

Damon is helping me clean after the meal.

Tim and Damon•Damon lives with Greg and Beth because his mother is unable to care for him.  

•She, like many Apaches, is addicted to drugs and alcohol.

•He is such a sweet kid!!!

Tim “The Toolman”Greg and Beth dreamed of a retreat center for Apache families.

Our team helped finish the inside of the retreat center.

The project was completed in 2008.

So Innocent.  Please Stay That Way!!Life on the Reservation is not promising for Apache Children.

There is:

•High Teen Pregnancy Rate  •Alcohol abuse •Drug addiction•High Suicide Rate•40% High School Drop out rate    

Who Doesn’t Like to Play Football?

•Apache children are similar to their “American” counterparts.  

•All children enjoy playing games.   

•Here I am playing football with the neighborhood children. 

Apache Children Love to Laugh

Although life is difficult on the Reservation, these children know how to have a good time.

Pickles and Kool Aid?!?!Apache children love to eat pickles dipped in Kool Aid.

Well…not all Apache children.

Apache Burger Time- Yum YumHere I am experiencing an “Apache Burger”, which is a hamburger with all the fixin’s wrapped in Frybread.   

It’s likely to cause a heart attack, but well worth it.
