The Melrose Running Club is a non-profit organization started in 1996 to promote the sport of running while making positive contributions to the local community. Working towards this goal the club has hosted the Melrose Run For Women since 1998. This local event promotes women’s fitness as well as raises funds for the Melrose Alliance Against Violence.

women’s only road race through the peaceful and scenic Swain’s Pond section of Melrose.Now in its thirteenth year, the event has
become a local Mother’s Day tradition. The day begins with family friendly Kid’s Races followed by the start of the women’s race. Children line the finish line chute and hand flowers to each finisher as they arrive. The post race party pampers participants with massages, music, fresh baked-goods, coffee and water. It is truly a celebration of women… grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and sisters… enjoyed by the whole family.

Melrose Alliance Against ViolenceFounded in 1995, the Melrose Alliance Against
Violence (MAAV) is non-profit organization dedicated to reducing domestic, teen dating and youth violence through various community based programs.All proceeds from the Melrose Run For Women are
donated to the MAAV. Since the race’s inception over $73,000 has been raised. Race proceeds benefits MAAV’s Healthy Relationships Project at the middle school level and the Student Action Board at Melrose High School, programs designed to stop teen dating violence before it starts.
