Making money amidst the global economic transformationThere is no better time than NOW to invest in railways. Given the current economic climate and global fi nancial crisis, airlines are cutting fl ights due to a signifi cant drop in passenger demands. Economists interviewed have also cited possible measures like resuming public sector construction projects such as railway and mass transit – “pump priming” measures that will help boost economic growth amid the worldwide fi nancial crisis. Coupled with fuel price fl uctuations, the future growth of mass transit, national railways and freight rail looks all set to head north.
Asia Pacifi c Rail 2009 is the benchmark industry event that brings together railway operators, government and regulatory bodies, investors, consultants and suppliers to discuss and share the latest developments in the Asia Pacifi c market. The 2009 conference will focus on Vietnam as a key growth market in Asia Pacifi c, the growth of mass transit in Asia and how best to capitalize on these opportunities, enhancing customer experience, operation and maintenance, emerging markets showcases, new opportunities for a rapidly urbanizing China, rail fi nancing models and a dedicated freight day that explores the renewed opportunities for a growing and more responsive rail freight industry.

DepartmentVietnam Railways
Welcome to the 11th annual Asia Pacifi c Rail conference and exhibition. We are glad to have you with us at Asia’s leading event.
The last two decades have seen tremendous transformation to the railway sector in the region and Asia remains one of the fastest growth markets. Transport authorities worldwide are constantly looking into minimizing private means of transport use and in turn, developing a more effi cient means of public transport systems.
A top priority of Vietnam’s Master Plan on the development of Vietnam Railways, parallel with the existing North-South railway, which will be upgraded, the Government plans to build an express railway, capable of linking up to international lines.
Vietnam's railway sector is scouting for some US$10.6 billion in capital to modernize the antiquated track network, boost safety and comfort levels and bring fares down. An express railway line, shuttling passengers between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in just 10 hours, is one of the major planks of a new master plan for the sector until 2020.
I am happy that Hanoi is the host city for the 11th annual Asia Pacifi c Rail 2009. Asia Pacifi c Rail – the benchmark industry event is one of the best platforms for you to hear the latest rail innovations, developments and current rail economic realities around Asia and beyond.
I wish all speakers, delegates, sponsors and exhibitors a rewarding experience at Asia Pacifi c Rail 2009!
Thank you.

Mr Tay holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Singapore, and a Master of Science in Property and Maintenance Management from the National University of Singapore. He is a registered Professional Engineer and Licensed Electrical Engineer with the Energy Market Authority, Singapore.
His recent and current involvement includes varied experiences in overseas MRT/LRT/Monorail projects in Australia, UAE, Sri Lanka and India. Establishing an effective
management system in the operations and
maintenance of a modern and high
technological MRT/LRT system
In the past 20 over years, many modern railways like MRT/LRT systems were built in many major Asia cities. These railways provide an important public transport backbone along the busy corridors of cities to provide an effi cient way of moving people safely, enhancing their lives and also to alleviate traffi c congestion. With more of these high technological systems being built, there is an ever increasing need for railway professionals to operate and maintain these systems professionally, safely and cost effectively. The participation of the operations and maintenance professionals begins at the early stage to provide the necessary operator's input through system design reviews, integrated testing and commissioning and preparation for trial run and revenue service before committing to the next 30 to 40 years of operating and maintaining the system. Objectives & agenda:
Using the Singapore MRT as an example, the workshop aims to demonstrate the systematic approach to establishing an effective management system in the operations and maintenance of a modern and high technological MRT/LRT system.
This will be a participatory event, combining presentations, discussions, and small group sessions.
Registration for workshop starts at 8.30am; the workshop will commence at 9.00am and end at 5.00pm.
Refreshment and lunch will be served at appropriate times

THE leading summit that brings together India’s metro operators,
rail authorities and government offi cials at MetroRail Asia 2009
WHY India? The challenge of massive urban congestion has given rise to an overwhelming need for the demand of greater metro services in Indian cities.
