Resolving hauling challenges across entire networks

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We are the #1 specialist in wireless backhaul Essentially, our solutions connect between cellular towers – and between towers and the operator’s core network Our system deliver high capacities – up to several gigabit of traffic, to support voice and data applications like video, file sharing, internet browsing etc. Our customers are the large cellular operators – the AT&Ts, Telefonica and America Movil’s of the world A portion of our business also goes to private network operators such as utilities, public safety, enterprise business etc. <Can also refer to the products showing in the slide>: our “systems” comprise of an indoor unit and an outdoor or radio unit. These are the ‘active’ components. We also provide an antenna which comes from 3rd party. Two systems that are connected to one another over the air are called a “link” here you can see our products in a number of typical application scenarios. On the right is our Evolution long haul in an “all indoor” assembly (all indoor meaning that all the active components of the link are indoors in a protected shack beside the tower) Our systems are also provided in “split mount” assembly in which the radios are attached to the outdoors antenna while the digital processing unit remains in a protected shelter On the left is an all-outdoor assembly. Here all the functionality of both the indoor and outdoor units is combined in a single, compact device. The weather-proof enclosure is fastened to an antenna, eliminating the need for rack space or sheltering as well as the need for air conditioning. Compact, ultra high-capacity all outdoor systems are geared towards small-cell applications

Bandwidth growth outpaces available resources

Source: Ovum

Global data traffic will grow 90% cumulatively through 2017

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Bandwidth demand is growing at fast pace 4G will increase capacity demand by an order of magnitude Forecasted mobile broadband traffic demand and mobile backhaul network capacity requirements far outstrip operators’ ability and willingness to pay So operators will find ways to contain spending on backhaul equipment. As the lowest cost manufacturer of microwave solutions, this is an excellent opportunity for us

Estimated Operators revenue lost to OTT in 2011 - ~ 14 B USD to OTT social messaging services - ~ 22 B USD to OTT VoIP Service

Telco Revenues Lost to Social Messaging 2010-2016 (M USD)

OTT is reshaping our industry

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Over the top services – like Skype, facebook, WhatApp, Google Talk, Twitter etc. – generate a lot of traffic over the operators’ network. However, this is “unbilled” traffic – i.e., network resources aer being used, but the operator cannot charge for the service. The chart on this slide (from Ovum) shows how much revenue is lost every year to OTT services (of course – the investments towards maintaining and upgrading the network in order to enable the user’s quality of experience are rising – making the problem even more acute)

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Disruption in the operator model: More capacity – doubling on a yearly basis OTT services – revenues lost to non-carrier players New business models – Small cells as a service (SCaaS) – new providers that could potentially remove some of the cost and complexity of deploying micro network infrastructure. By building and maintaining a portion of the network, and leasing the service back to operations, SCaaS players (like carriers of carriers) offer an alternative to operator CAPEX spending Network Sharing – 2 or more operators building and sharing a single network (example: Everything Everywhere in the UK – a joint venture of DT and FT)

Presentation Notes
The network is more complex Need for more cell-sites to meet demand Distributed networks will require more backhaul as well as front-haul solutions This increase cannot be satisfied entirely by fiber for cost and time-to-market reasons. A host of new opportunities for microwave We’re seeing early stages of planning HetNets – meaningful deployments expected to begin in 2014 and onwards

Current Market Environment

21

• Caution over business models • Declining revenues per unit of bandwidth delivered • Ongoing regulatory uncertainty, including pending rulings

• Caution over technological changes

• Network architectures& infrastructure-sharing arrangements • New solutions based on all-IP

• Caution over the macroeconomic environment

• Preserve cash, delay spending • Slow spending reduces competitive pressures

The result: sale-cycles are getting longer

& penetrating into new accounts is more challenging
