The Longwall USA Show kicked into full gear by day two. The aisles began to fill up at opening and continued to do so throughout the day. Many companies had staff stretched thinly due to coincid-ing events. None-the-less it all seemed to work out.
There were some new faces at the show as new hires were introduced. Ed Kwait (left) with KF Molded Products introduced his new engineer Tony Kordecki. It was Tony’s first day with the company. What a great first day it was! Nice to meet you Tony.
Brookville Mining Equipment introduced its new sales/marketing specialist, Michael White. Michael recently gradu-ated from Penn State University with a Business Degree. Michael (left) spent eight years in the US Coast Guard before returning to college. We wish Michael all the best and we look forward to working with him.
Jeanine Rainone with FORCE was busy at the show. FORCE held its 4th Annual Black Diamond Dinner this past April. The theme for the evening was country and western. Jeanine and her staff made sure Beth T. received a Coal People cow-boy hat from the event. It traveled back and forth during show week, but made it to Beth by the last day. “The Longwall Show in Pittsburgh, PA June 5-7 was a great success
for Superior Highwall Miners. SHM’s booth attracted many domestic cus-tomers as well as customers from around the world. Fortunately, we were able to talk with some of our customers and discuss their high-
wall mining projects. Attendees visit these shows to see the latest state
of the art equipment, technology and services in the industry. Permitting processes are changing everyday. To be competitive in today’s volatile energy market, mineral developers must always be on the lookout for
innovative technologies that reduce production costs and increase profit-ability. Highwall mining is the future
of mining.– Jennifer Hawley (above)
“The Longwall Show was a great opportunity for me to meet with
current and future Superior Highwall System owners.”
– John Olsen, the new COO of Superior Highwall Miners
Seems there’s a family relation with Reg-gie Farlaino at Phillips Machine. Reg-gie’s dad and Van’s mom are brother and sister. Reggie’s brother runs the family restaurant called Farlaino’s in Price Utah. Next time you’re in Price, make sure to stop by for some home cooked food.
If you’re heading to the Bluefield Show this September make sure to stop by the RM Wilson/SETCO booth. Bobby Gillespie (aka Grillmaster) will have yet another grill concoction. He used a com-mercial dishwasher to create his very first grill. Since then he has developed one from a huge CO2 tank that involved some creative welding, which he sported at the last show. He wouldn’t share this year’s invention so it will be a surpirse.
We caught up with the two Ray’s at the show. Industrial Composites exhibited at the Coal Prep Show this past April and for some reason we missed running their

photo. Seems they are back in the show circuit. We’ll be seeing more from this company.
We had our annual visit with John Stef-fenino. He participated with Lee Supply in hosting the party where the magician performed his magic again this year. He had new tricks up his sleeves as the crowd watched in amazement.
Susan Hiles with Fairmont Supply is get-ting some much needed help this sum-mer with an intern, Jessica Layton. It was a joy meeting Jessica and we wish her much success at Penn State.
We want to give Frank Hyden a big con-gratulations! His daughter is getting mar-ried in July. He is one proud dad! Best wishes to the bride and groom.

“The Pittsburgh Show was a great opportunity for us at
AMR as we debuted our new tagging, tracking and com-munications system, Mine
Net, and our next generation pilotless ground monitor, the
GM-PRO. Many of our current customers and several new
customers stopped by to learn more about these exciting
new products in development. They were particularly interest-ed in the tagging system as it has the capability to be incor-porated into our existing MC-
4000 mine monitoring systems (i.e. owners have just one
system to maintain and do not have to run new cable). Mine Net can also be run on Ether-net-based systems over fiber.
The GM-PRO incorporates the latest in microprocessor
technology to overcome many of today’s problems with pilot-
less monitors such as VFD noise-induced trips, calibration
drift and set-point detuning and a lack of diagnostics for
field troubleshooting. We will be very busy in the next few months demonstrating our
system to all our customers. If anyone has an interest in
seeing either one of our latest developments, please give us
a call at 1-276-928-1712.”
