The 8th TRT World Rice Conference returns to Thailand, to Chiang Mai for three days of networking and rice market intelligence. Acknowledged as the largest gathering of rice trade professionals, the 2016 event will focus on the changing weather, as El Niño gave way to La Niña, Thailand continuing to inject supplies of old crop rice, while the global markets absorbs supply, demand and risk information to form trends that will lead price, export volumes and the trade environment. The 8th edition of the “World’s Best Rice” contest will also feature the best specialty rice from around the world.
Register Today! Join our who’s who list of attendees and sponsors and invest in an event dedicated to the global rice trade.
The 8th TRT World Rice Conference 2016 shifts from Malaysia’s key import market to one of the world’s most important exporters – Thailand, as the 2016 edition of the world’s largest
commercial gathering of rice trade professionals takes us to a market that has seen vast changes both in its role in the global rice market, as well as from political shifts within the country that have resulted in some 11 MMT of old stocks of rice that were built from the rice pledging scheme, which was operational from late 2011 to May 2014. Thailand is a market that can shape the direction of markets as it has done so from stock sales between 2014 and now. These stocks have created their own demand, especially in parts of Africa (Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mozambique and Angola are well known markets), while there is also a steady home grown demand for old crop rice in domestic Thai rice markets where older rice can achieve a premium.
The TRT World Rice Conference 2016 will continue to look at global markets, from key origins like Thailand, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, U.S., South America and the rising markets for rice exports seen from Myanmar and Cambodia. The event will also feature information on key market verticals, like fragrant rice, broken rice, parboiled rice, basmati rice and provide regional updates on key import markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
2016 has revealed yet another special year, as we saw El Nino affect production in several markets, exportable supply was looking especially tight as prices finally rose after more than a year of El Nino concerns. There was less G2G demand after some early promise from Philippines and Indonesia and market watchers continue to guess. Chinese buying was seen steady but slightly lower as its 2016 crop prospects look good, Iran returned to markets after spending years in sanctions and even Iraq saw its team at the government and Grain Board change, as did procurement trends, with U.S and South American demand giving way to more Indian rice. Nigeria was still slow, as restrictions on currency and rice imports left most of its need to come from cross border imports that brought Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Ivory Coast as transshipment destinations that supplied rice via border routes.
2016 is an excellent time to visit Thailand, as the government ponders plans to sell stocks that often weigh on markets and farmer incomes by 2018 (or even sooner depending on which reports one reads). The meeting
will also be able to show us the arrival of La Nina and what is hoped as a more positive outlook for Thai, India, Pakistan, Myanmar and Cambodian harvests, timing is excellent for not just intelligence, but for trading, and business opportunities and exchange.
The corridors of TRT World Rice Conference will continue to buzz, with many stories to tell of deals and exchanges, as well as with the formation of strategic partnerships that deliver new offerings in markets, as the networking feature is the primary strength of the conference.
TRT World Rice Conference 2016 delivers an expert team of speakers who will share their views, address the developments in key markets, and shed light on important issues faced in the industry. The information from the team at TRT will also provide a useful information base that will shed light on markets, concerns and the way forward. The networking core and analysis provide a sure way to mix business and pleasure with the aim of building stronger business ties and knowledge of rice markets.
