1 Issue No 24/2015-2016 Thetford Grammar School The small, friendly school that gets results for individuals. 15 th April 2016 Dear Pupils and Parents, A very warm welcome back to school. On behalf of all the staff at Thetford Grammar School, I do hope that you thoroughly enjoyed the Easter holidays and are refreshed and ready to embark upon the final term for this academic year. I extend a particularly warm welcome to our newest pupils and their families who join us this term. I am certain they will quickly settle into their new school (and for one new pupil from overseas into the UK). For many of our older pupils and students, these are the final few weeks before the all- important examinations, either GCSE, AS or A2. I do hope that you are ready and prepared for this final stretch. Please remember to try to be focussed; try to stay positive; eat and sleep well, and organise your studies and your time. I know that all the teachers are here to help should you have any last-minute questions or concerns. Make sure that you ask a teacher if you have any issues at all. I shall wish you well over the coming weeks ahead. I extend my deepest thanks and appreciation to the many members of staff who gave up so many days of their holidays to arrange and deliver revision sessions to assist pupils and students across the subjects. Moreover, the Maintenance Team, led by Mr Theo Bailey, have worked very well and hard on a number of projects around the school. I am sure that we all appreciate the improvements. At times, the school seemed busier throughout the holidays than during a normal school day! A final reminder that on Friday 29 th April at 7.00pm in Old School is the official launch of the book ‘Thetford Grammar School, Fourteen Centuries of Education’ written by David Seymour, former Head of History at TGS. This wonderful book explores the many years of educational heritage on this site and marks the 450 th anniversary since Sir Richard Fulmerston’s Will refounded the school in 1566. Mr Seymour will also present the inaugural Sir Richard Fulmerston annual lecture on this special occasion. The book is available for purchase from the school should you wish to have your own signed copy.

The small, friendly school that gets results for individuals.
15th April 2016
Dear Pupils and Parents,
A very warm welcome back to school. On behalf of all the staff at Thetford Grammar School,
I do hope that you thoroughly enjoyed the Easter holidays and are refreshed and ready to
embark upon the final term for this academic year. I extend a particularly warm welcome to
our newest pupils and their families who join us this term. I am certain they will quickly
settle into their new school (and for one new pupil from overseas into the UK).
For many of our older pupils and students, these are the final few weeks before the all-
important examinations, either GCSE, AS or A2. I do hope that you are ready and prepared
for this final stretch. Please remember to try to be focussed; try to stay positive; eat and sleep
well, and organise your studies and your time. I know that all the teachers are here to help
should you have any last-minute questions or concerns. Make sure that you ask a teacher if
you have any issues at all. I shall wish you well over the coming weeks ahead.
I extend my deepest thanks and appreciation to the many members of staff who gave up so
many days of their holidays to arrange and deliver revision sessions to assist pupils and
students across the subjects. Moreover, the Maintenance Team, led by Mr Theo Bailey, have
worked very well and hard on a number of projects around the school. I am sure that we all
appreciate the improvements. At times, the school seemed busier throughout the holidays
than during a normal school day!
A final reminder that on Friday 29th April at 7.00pm in
Old School is the official launch of the book ‘Thetford
Grammar School, Fourteen Centuries of Education’
written by David Seymour, former Head of History at
TGS. This wonderful book explores the many years of
educational heritage on this site and marks the 450th
anniversary since Sir Richard Fulmerston’s Will
refounded the school in 1566. Mr Seymour will also

Please do speak with the School Office to reserve a seat should you wish to attend or enquire
about the book. Do be advised that the seating capacity of Old School is limited.
This morning’s whole school assembly in Williamson Hall welcomes the French Exchange
pupils and their teachers from Collège Monod in Compiègne. I shall wish Mr Raphael
Maringue, Head of French and the French Exchange Organiser, and all the pupils a very
pleasurable time here at TGS and in this beautiful part of England. Let’s hope the weather is
kind for them for the next few days.
Our final Open Day for this academic year takes place tomorrow, Saturday 16th April, from
10.00am until 1.00pm. We shall be welcoming and providing guided tours for many
prospective pupils and their families. My thanks to the pupils, students, parents, teachers,
staff and governors who will be helping to present our TGS (totally great school) experience
to the many visitors!
I do hope you have a lovely and restful weekend.
Mr Mark S. Bedford
Headmaster
Welcome back to all of our children and their families at the start of our final term of this
academic year. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to both Eryn
and Flynn who have joined us in the Prep School this week. We are looking forward to a
very busy term with lots of exciting trips planned; please do refer to the calendar that was
e-mailed home during the Easter break.
