Dual Credit Programs Textbook Guidelines
• South Texas College guidelines for the purchase and use of approved dual credit textbook adoptions are summarized here to facilitate communication between partners and to help ensure the availability of required course materials for dual credit students by the first class day.
• Dual credit textbook adoptions must follow South Texas College's Dual Credit Interlocal Agreement (IA) provisions, the guidelines in the Dual Credit Programs Instructional and Quality Standards Manual and Board Policy #3236 Guidelines for the Adoption and Ordering of
Textbooks.
• According to the IA, College-approved textbooks purchased by the school district as required for a college course are allowed to be used for four (4) years. STC Chairs may request a change of textbook earlier than four (4) years, if the textbook is for a technology-based course or
with reasonable justification.
• Partnering high school sites should have documentation available showing when required course materials were purchased. The documentation enables schools to track the time period for allowed use and when textbooks are due to be replaced. Both partners want to avoid a school being asked to replace textbooks too soon after purchase and partner schools using textbooks beyond the allowed time period.
• When the Department of Dual Credit Programs is communicating with partner schools regarding adoptions, the respective STC department chair should be included in communications including the following: - Information provided to a partner school for the purchase of required course materials
- Questions about whether course materials are due to be replaced
- Requesting an exception to the allowed time to use course materials after purchase
- Requesting an exception for the use of other than the STC-adopted textbook and required course materials

STC Chairs may request a change of textbook earlier than four (4) years, if the textbook is for a technology-based course or with reasonable justification.

Dual Credit Programs Textbook Guidelines
• South Texas College guidelines for the purchase and use of approved dual credit textbook adoptions are summarized here to facilitate communication between partners and to help ensure the availability of required course materials for dual credit students by the first class day.
• Dual credit textbook adoptions must follow South Texas College's Dual Credit Interlocal Agreement (IA) provisions, the guidelines in the Dual Credit Programs Instructional and Quality Standards Manual and Board Policy #3236 Guidelines for the Adoption and Ordering of Textbooks.
• According to the IA, College-approved textbooks purchased by the school district as required for a college course are allowed to be used for four (4) years. STC Chairs may request a change of textbook earlier than four (4) years, if the textbook is for a technology-based course or with reasonable justification.
• Partnering high school sites should have documentation available showing when required course materials were purchased. The documentation enables schools to track the time period for allowed use and when textbooks are due to be replaced. Both partners want to avoid a school being asked to replace textbooks too soon after
purchase and partner schools using textbooks beyond the allowed time period.
