TEXAS DECLARATION of INDEPENDENCE
A committee was assembled to finalize the details of Texas’s separation from Mexico, creating the Texas Declaration of Independence which was then unanimously accepted by voters at the summit

59 delegates were present to sign the document, and five copies were created and distributed to Bexar, Brazoria, Goliad, San Felipe, and Nacogdoches.

Texas did gain its independence in 1836, it wasn’t until 1845 that it officially became the state that we now sell affordable car insurance .

WAR BREAKS OUT
• It wasn’t long after Texas became a state that war broke out between the U.S. and Mexican militaries.
• On April 25th of 1846, 2,000 Mexican cavalrymen attacked a U.S. patrol of 70 after they were found patrolling contested territory.
• This skirmish would take the lives of 16 U.S. soldiers and kick off the Mexican-American War, but this battle was the first and last of the war to take place in Texas.

GREAT DEPRESSION
In the early to mid-1900’s, Texas experienced great economic growth as well as a depression.
The home of the country’s first skyscraper west of the Mississippi was thought to be a harbinger of prosperous times to come, dominating the landscape with 14 floors of steel and concrete.

OIL DISCOVEREDOil was even discovered in the Gulf of Mexico, leading to the most aggressive economic growth the state had ever seen, but Texas was hit by the Great Depression as bad as the rest of the U.S., crippling some businesses and causing many to start over from scratch.
