This was chosen because our former meeng place, which everyone loved, has closed. Cacharel had been in business at the same locaon for 30 years and the closing caught the community by surprise. We are sure you will all be sasfied with the new accommodaons and the menu, which has yet to be selected. What we feel is most missing are people willing to step up and help with all the planning and organizing necessary to have an annual dining experience. This is only my second term as President; Mack Estes just finished his third term; Karen Duchouquee has served several terms as both President and Treasurer and Gary Aspelin has been the Treasurer, it seems, forever. In the first years of this club, Priscilla Rogers did it all, but she, like many of us, has health problems and like all of us has goen older and unable to connue ‘doing it all.’ We need folks to step up and help make the work easier by spreading the load. We may also need to decide whether we want to connue at all in the way we have in the past. There are many opons. To name a few: 1. Change the venue to another locaon outside of Arlington. We might choose Dallas, Ft. Worth, San An- tonio, Corpus Chris or Houston. 2. Divide the resources among the three primary sites: Sherman, Arlington, San Angelo and have separate funcons during the year with all open to anyone interested enough to aend. 3. Decide on a cruise for one year and a casino in another year. 4. Take a trip to Branson, MO. Nevertheless, unless new board members volunteer to help with planning and are willing to serve as officers, your current board may be planning our last annual event. Contact me or one of the other officers if you are willing to serve and we will find the best fit for you. Our contact informaon is on the last page of the newsleer. The choice is up to the enre membership. On a more upbeat note, the board has voted to increase the number of possible scholarships to three and has in- creased the amount for each scholarship award from $1000 to $2000. President’s Message
To all members of the Johnson & Johnson Retiree Club of Texas:
The current board of directors decided at their March 8 meeting to hold the next annual luncheon at Mediterranean Villa (1111 Wet N Wild Way, Arlington, TX), just north of I-30, on October 19, 2017. This was chosen because our former meeting place, which everyone loved, has closed. Cacharel had been in business at the same location for 30 years and the closing caught the community by surprise.
We are sure you will all be satisfied with the new accommodations and the menu, which has yet to be selected.
What we feel is most missing are people willing to step up and help with all the planning and organizing necessary to have an annual dining experience. This is only my second term as President; Mack Estes just finished his third term; Karen Duchouquette has served several terms as both President and Treasurer and Gary
Aspelin has been the Treasurer, it seems, forever.
In the first years of this club, Priscilla Rogers did it all, but she, like many of us, has health problems and like all of us has gotten older and unable to continue ‘doing it all.’ We need folks to step up and help make the work easier by spreading the load. We may also need to decide whether we want to continue at all in the way we have in the past. There are many options.
To name a few:
1. Change the venue to another location outside of Arlington. We might choose Dallas, Ft. Worth, San An-
tonio, Corpus Christi or Houston.
2. Divide the resources among the three primary sites: Sherman, Arlington, San Angelo and have separate
functions during the year with all open to anyone interested enough to attend.
Our contact information is on the last page of the newsletter.
The choice is up to the entire membership.
On a more upbeat note, the board has voted to increase the number of possible scholarships to three and has in-creased the amount for each scholarship award from $1000 to $2000.

2017 Scholarship Award
May 12, 2017 is the deadline for submission for a $2,000 scholarship award from our J&J Retiree Club of Texas. Up to 3 scholarships awards are possible for 2017.
Requirements for the scholarship are that the student must be a senior and plans to begin their higher education in the Fall of 2017. They must be related to a J&J retiree (or retired deceased). This relationship could be a son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, nephew/niece or related by marriage.
Download the application at: http://www.jnjrct.com/Scholarships.html. It requires only four items which are:
1. A copy of their original transcript or grade report.
2. A copy of the completed and approved application form.
3. A letter of reference from a teacher or administrator.
4. The name and address of the higher learning institution they plan to attend.
Mail the completed application to be received any time from now to May 12. If they send it by overnight carrier and
it is received on May 13 IT IS LATE and will not be considered. Mail it to:
There have been years when we had a tremendous amount of applications submitted and a few years when we had very little response. Be sure to let your Senior High School Student know about the availability of our scholarship and encourage them to begin working on it now. Because of today’s economy, $2,000 can make a difference.
MEMBERSHIP MADE SIMPLE
The Board has decided to make it easier for you, and the treasurer, by having both the yearly dues and the banquet
registration due at the SAME TIME. THIS WILL NOT BE DUE UNTIL LATER THIS YEAR. DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO
THE TREASURER AT THIS TIME. We do not anticipate any change to the total amount paid for dues and banquet fees
in 2017. A form is being revised and will be posted on the web site and in the newsletter later in the year.
