Tarleton has recorded 854 wins as a program since becoming a senior college in 1968 and to say that Misty Wilson has left an impressive mark in this program would be an understatement. As a player and a coach, Misty Wilson has been a part of 306 of Tarleton’s 854 all-time senior college wins, including 44 as a head coach. That means she has been a part of 36% of Tarleton’s victories as a senior college.
LEAVING HER MARK ON THE PROGRAM
Ikpeaku Iwobi has joined former All-American Kiara Wright as the second player in Tarleton’s NCAA history to score 800 points and grab 600 rebounds. Iwobi enters Thursday’s games with 887 career points and 661 rebounds.
THE 800-600 CLUB
With 887 career points already secured, Ikpeaku Iwobi is 113 points shy of becoming the 22nd TexAnn player in school history to eclipse 1,000 career points. That would also make Iwobi one of 11 players in school history to score 1,000 points and grab at least 600 rebounds in her career.
IWOBI EYEING EXCLUSIVE COMPANY
Misty Wilson has played 10 overtime games in her three seasons, which is more than in the final six seasons combined under head coach Ronnie Hearne (8).
40 MINUTES NOT ENOUGH
Tarleton’s Bailey Wipff is on her way to going down as one of the best three-point shooters in Tarleton history. In addition to being No. 3 all-time in 3-pointers made (140) at Tarleton, she enters this weekend with a career triple percentage of .374, which currently has her No. 7 all-time behind Karla Dick (.375).

REWRITING THE RECORDS
11
TEXANN BASKETBALL
When the 2016-17 basketball season begins, Misty Wilson will begin her third season as the
head coach of the Tarleton State TexAnns. She is coming off back-to-back 17-win
seasons to begin her career as a head coach. In her sophomore season as the leader of the program, she earned her first LSC Tournament victory with an overtime win over Texas A&M-Commerce to advance to the semifinal round of the league’s postseason tournament – making her the fastest head coach to advance to the semifinals in school history.
In her first season at the helm, Wilson guided the TexAnns to a record of 17-10 and a berth in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament. Her 17 wins in her debut season is the most victories by a TexAnn rookie head coach in the NCAA era, topping Ronnie Hearne’s 14 wins in his inaugural 2003 season.
Wilson was named the sixth head coach of the TexAnns following the retirement of 11-year head coach, Ronnie Hearne, at a press conference on March 26, 2014. Wilson earned the promotion following a four-year playing and 12-year coaching career as the top assistant for TexAnn basketball.
She has seen great success, and helped lead the TexAnns to all six NCAA tournament appearances in school history.
As an assistant coach, she spent her first collegiate coaching season alongside
Claude Cummings before Hearne took over the program in 2003. For the last 11 seasons, Hearne and Wilson have lifted Tarleton into the national spotlight by earning postseason berths in 11 straight seasons - including six NCAA regional tournaments. She has been a part of 219 wins over the last 12 years as an assistant coach.
Wilson, the sixth-best scorer in Tarleton history, joined the staff in August 2002 following a stellar four-year playing career. The Burleson native played in 103 games from 1998 to 2001. She scored 1,440 career points and was the season scoring leader three years in a row.
She’s currently in the top 10 of several Tarleton career categories, ranking as high as second all-time in free throws made and attempted (433-545) and steals (326). As a junior she earned a second team All-Lone Star Conference South Division and second team All-South Central Region honors, including first team honors as a senior. In addition, she was the team’s Most Valuable Player for three consecutive years.
Wilson earned a bachelors and master’s degree in exercise and sport’s studies from Tarleton. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 2001 and finished her master’s degree in the spring of 2004.
She lives in Stephenville with her three children: Jade, Mya and Kenna.
