The phrase ‘making a difference’ is quite the buzzword in the QI offices these days, no doubt due to RYTHM Foundation’s recently-launched ‘I’m MAD’ campaign.

How can we make a difference? We don’t need an army behind us, or the financial backing of a major company. We don’t even need to be too ambitious.

Making a difference, starting with each one of us, sounds simple but is not practised as often as it should be.

Almost every organisation, large or small, has a corporate social responsibility

(CSR) programme these days. My hope for the ‘I’m MAD’ campaign is for it to be more than a mere CSR initiative. It can’t be different though, unless each and every participant makes it different.

For it to be different, our intentions behind doing humanitarian work have to be genuine. There are, of course, those who do it to gain publicity. But there are others who genuinely want to help society.

One person like that who comes to mind is Mother Theresa, who devoted her life to humanitarian work without much fanfare. What drives someone like her

to continue wanting to better the lives of others? I believe it is compassion – the inability to bear the suffering of others. To truly make a difference, we need to look within ourselves and change. As the saying goes, one needs to walk the talk. For example, we cannot call ourselves humanitarians if we continue to slaughter animals for food. Similarly, true environmentalists don’t partake in any activity that pollutes the planet.

We can’t expect to change the world if we are not willing to change ourselves. In other words, if we want to make a difference, we should stop being hypocrites. B

...we can do something to Make A Difference in our homes, community, and the world.

By the time you get this copy of VOYAGER Magazine, the first leg of the phenomenal I’m MAD World Tour has already passed and most likely we are in the process of setting the stage for Leg Two. Allow me to share with you my thoughts and experiences, traveling from one country to another – United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Cote D’Ivoire, Sudan, Indonesia, and India – all in a span of one month.

Firstly, the last time I have done a similar road show was back in 2007 when we launched RULE 3 World Tour. Both RULE 3 and I’m MAD were exhilarating, uplifting, and educational in equal measure but vastly different in focus and approach. Whereas in RULE 3, we were all about teaching the IRs the tips and tricks of the trade so that by consistent practice and application, they are brought much closer to financial freedom; I’m

MAD World Tour is bringing them all into a common awareness and appreciation of a cause that is bigger than ourselves, so that in our way, we can do something to Make A Difference in our homes, community, and the world.

The I’m MAD World Tour is special to me for a lot of reasons – nearly all of which I can attribute to my Mother and the lessons she instilled in us. My Mother raised my brothers and me, single-handedly. Our life back then did not fall under the category of affluent or luxurious but despite that, my Mother would never pass up an opportunity to extend a helping hand. She’s very passionate about education and children and it was her dream to build a kindergarten school. Unfortunately, she did not live long enough to see that dream become a reality but she’ll be delighted to know that it is slowly taking shape, with the help of

my brothers.

I learned the value of giving from my Mother – a trait that would be reaffirmed later on by my mentor Dato’ Vijay Eswaran through his vision of RYTHM. Raise Yourself To Help Mankind or RYTHM is the driving force behind I’m MAD. We want every member of The V family to attain financial freedom so that they, too, would be able to help those who are in dire need of help. Every three seconds somebody dies because of hunger, political strife, depression and there are millionsmore that continue to suffer inhumane living conditions. These are the people we should be reaching out to. These people need to know that there are people out there who still care. This is our chance to become the people who help other people.

I’m MAD. Now my question is, ARE YOU?

...one simply defies the odds because one dares to be different.

Sharing the Passion for Making A Difference

It’s a liberating feeling to realise that you are crazy about something; to find that you are so passionate, so mad about it, that you want the whole world to know. QNet is lucky to be a company that can call itself a family, and we are a family that is truly mad about one thing: we are mad about making a difference in the world we live in. Together, we’ve spent 13 years making a difference by sharing the unbelievable potential of the QNet business opportunity and the healthy benefits of our lifestyle products, to everyday people around the world. At the same time, through our belief in RYTHM, we have also made a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, those hit by disaster, and those who simply need a helping hand. This is what we are mad about and we strive to make a difference in everything we do. We are not alone in our passion for making a difference, but we are unlike any other in our massive ability to combine together in our millions and stand together to make a mega impact. The I’m MAD campaign is about just that – Making A Difference together. It’s a badge to wear proudly that announces to the world that you care and that you are raising yourself to help mankind. As part of QNet’s I’m MAD campaign, a proportion of the sale of each and every QNet product is being donated to RYTHM Foundation. The funds that we collectively raise are already being put towards important community initiatives and events. This is YOU Making A Difference. This business of network marketing is not about the money, or about the glory

of success. It’s not about material gain or about wanting to be bigger and better than everybody else. The beauty of this business, and the thing that continues to attract hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs to this profession every year, is that personal success is not at the expense of group success. By succeeding in this business, so too do the people around you. And now through the I’m MAD campaign, every purchase you make will also reach out to many more people whom you may never meet, and whom you may never know, but who are able to enjoy a better quality of life thanks to the fact that you are MAD.

he true ambition of this programme is for each of you to adapt, assimilate and aspire to create and develop a zone that in turn becomes a source of strength and guidance

for all those that they meet. This is, The Zone. - Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran Excerpt from THE ZONE

You have gone past I am. You are now in ‘I want’. You now need to focus on what you want. The more academic you are, the more professional you are, and the more difficult it is to do this. You should be able to step in and step out of the zone as and when it’s needed without ever leaving the zone.

If you are really serious about the zone, there are 2 things – It is tremendous focus and passion. When you are in the zone you find yourself capable of anything. It’s about trying and wanting to be. Wanting it so badly that you become it. That comes from a raging fire in-side. You must feel the passion for something that you want. You must be raging with passion for it.

What is your best? Your best is only limited by today. Your best stops only when you die. Your best is something that should change every day, breaking new ground and new rules. You are best to leave the rest behind.

VC AKASHDIP SINGH DIVISION HEAD 1

My prime responsibility is to ensure that the VIPs feel safe and secure by making them feel comfortable and completely at home.

My involvement with the InService Brotherhood began by sheer coinci-dence. In the early days when there was no formal concept of InService, I was attending one of the company›s training events when one of the Direc-tors asked me to be a microphone runner. I have never stopped running with the InService ever since.

The best part about ISB is the bond that I have created with so many people from different walks of life, from all over the world. I am glad that I have so many friends! Once I came out of my comfort zone, I became rich with experiences and valuable friend-ships. It is true what they say: ‹Nothing ventured, nothing gained›.

VC OSAMA EL-AMIN SALI DIVISION HEAD 2

My main role is to work with ACC2 (Assistant Crew Chief 2) in overseeing the Security, Gate-keeping, Logistics, and Communications and Environ-mental Services departments. We make sure that all these work smooth-ly because as V events have become “mega” events they require proper planning, continuous follow up and clear communication to be successful.

I started attending V-Conventions in 2002 and I’ve never missed one. Since 2004 at V-Dubai I have been serving with the InService crew and I contin-ued to do soeversince. In March 2010, I had the honour of joining the Core InService team.

ISB to me is essential leadership de-velopment training, and it is critically needed for any individual targeting to be a better person. If he allows himself to grow and learn from ISB, he can serve his network in a better way and be valuable in helping all of us carry the mission of RYTHM and touch the lives of everyone we meet.

VC ANGELA FADIL DIVISION HEAD 3 My tasks as Division Head 3 includes assisting the Assistant Crew Chief 3 (ACC3) in overlooking the work flow of several departments and working with the heads of V-Kids, Translation, Program, Time Keeping, and Well-ness. We ensure that there is sufficient support in each department so that we can achieve a successful V-Con-vention.

ISB, for me, is home. It is not a home of comfort, but a home of discipline and humility. In our personal homes, our parents always discipline us and teach us the right values. In ISB, I get together with my brothers and sisters from all around the world to learn life lessons. Here, I found my purpose in life: Service.

If someone comes up to me and asks why they should join ISB, I’d say: If you love your life and your future, you must attend the ISB Bootcamp at least once. It will be a tough five days, but the learning that you will get will be priceless!

he InService Brotherhood has been the network’s paragon of leadership, service and humility for several years now. All our events, especially the big ones like the V-Conventions, Regional V-Conventions and World Tours, would not be as successful without a backbone of reliable servant-leaders to make sure everything goes as planned.

At the heart of the ISB is the Core InService, a central hub of the most respected network and corporate people dedicated to making sure that each aspect of an event is well-executed and properly organised. To strengthen the Core ISB even more, three new members and positions were inducted in 2010. They are called Division Head 1, Division Head 2 and Division Head 3.

Let’s get to know them a little bit more:

THE INSERVICE BROTHERHOOD DIVISION HEADS

T

IN SERVICE16

Page 19: test8

he InService Brotherhood is more than just a tradi-tion. It is the way of life of a true servant-leader. The InService Brotherhood is bound by the codes of

truth, humility and committed service.

InService Brotherhood was first established in 1999, due to their remarkable roles in The V’s events, they are getting larger as the years pass. The InService Brotherhood (ISB), an elite team of specially trained network leaders who volunteer their services at V events. The ISB come together to provide assis-tance in the preparation, conduct, and post-event concerns of The V’s events, side-by-side with the V corporate staff.

Over the years we have endeavored to make each ISB better, more challenging and more extraordinary for the participants. In every ISB Bootcamp, participants realize the importance of teamwork, preparedness and humility. Through the boot-camp they get better understanding of the statement service above self.

And now it is time to take that goal one notch higher, and with ADVANCE ISB, Bootcamp VII we will truly push the lim-its of endurance, leadership, wit and survival. The Advance ISB Bootcamp VII happening on 13-19 October at Chang Mai Thailand will focus on the strengths of each department, as opposed to the strength of each team or group. We will home in on the ability of the participants to come together and perform their duties as a department efficiently and with great results, despite the challenges and obstacles. Due to the bootcamps level of difficulty only those who have successfully completed at least one ISB Bootcamp will be considered to take part in this experience.

ADVANCE ISB Bootcamp VII will introduce fresh new pro-cesses and practical skills application. This bootcamp will definitely be exciting, informative and invigorating but at the same time really challenging.

Are you ready?!!

when you choose to believe, the world is yours

inally, V-Malaysia 2011! On 27 May 2011 The V opened its doors and welcomed all 10,000 participants to the much awaited and grandest event of the year!

Long before the ribbon-cutting at 3pm, people from different parts of the globe have already gathered around the Putra Stadium as early as 8 in the morning. Loud drums and cheers could be heard from all parts of the stadium. Colorful flags and costumes filled the area.

At 3pm, V Partner TG Kintanar, QNet Managing Director JR Mayer, and Qlifestyle Managing Director Joachim Steffen gathered in front of the eager crowd to officially open the Exhibit Area of V-Malaysia 2011.

After the ribbon-cutting, they gave impassioned welcome messages to the gathered IRs. ‘This is by far the biggest V-Con, ever! Remember to have fun and we love you!’’ said JR Mayer.

‘Also that day The V welcomed over 200 excited and very energetic kids into the V-Kids hall.

To begin the event, the kids together with their parents, were served with a very filling snack. V Managing Director Pathman took the time to visit the V-Kids hall. These little ones are very dear to him. According to Uncle Pathman, which the V-Kids prefer to call him, this year’s V-Kids event is better and bigger than the previous ones--- more fun and educational activities will be given to the young ones. “I am very passionate about this because we do the business for the children” said Uncle Pathman. “We all want them to have an unbelievable experience” he added.

Parents will not have to worry about the safety of their children since it is the V’s number one priority to make sure that they stay safe while learning and enjoying themselves. “This is going to be fun, fun, fun!” said Uncle Pathman.

According to Uncle Pathman, he will be spending a lot of time with the V-Kids and he will be personally speaking throughout the convention to them. The V-Kids Convention is especially organized to let children from ages 3 to 17 see and learn how the business really works, as well as to gain experiences that will help them grow into upstanding people.

Another highlight of this day was the Gala Night. The overwhelming 10,000 passionate and enthusiastic Independent Representatives filled the main arena. The V delivered a spectacular opening leaving everyone in awe.

And to top it off the new V logo was launched, marking a new era for The V.

V Managing Director Pathman Senathirajah delivered the welcome remarks and gave out a friendly reminder about some rules to ensure everyone’s safety.

The night was made even more special when VMD Pathman welcomed on stage V Managing Partner Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran. He spoke about the power of belief in everyone’s life, in helping every IR achieve the success and financial freedom that they desire. He said that “the reason you were born is to achieve something in life” then added, “in order to be able to start you have to believe, have a strong belief”. V Founding Partner Joseph Bismark joined him on stage, he shared his remarkable journey in the business and how their friendship flourished.

It was just the start but already the IRs was given the chance to actively participate. VMP Dato’ Dr. Vijay called upon our V Partners to go around the convention hall and asked the IRs, ‘what they expect from this V-Con?’ Majority of their answer was that they look forward to a better lifestyle through this V-Con. Every one affirmed that as they return to their respective countries the wonderful memories of V-Malaysia 2011 will be with them and they share it with the rest of our brothers and sisters.

For day one of the convention, Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran wanted us to keep in mind, “when you choose to believe, the world is yours”

LOOKING BACK

at the Second Day of V-CONVENTION 2011

ay 2 of the V-con ushered in more surprises. Despite ending the first night session quite late, doors to the session hall still opened early. Our IRs arrive early full of excitement and wearing smiles on their faces all

eager to start yet another wonderful day. Shortly before the session started several videos of our hardworking Inservice brothers and sisters were shown on stage.

AVP Ferdie Tolentino and AVP Hendra Nilam were the hosts for the day and together with VP Pathman Senathirajah, they introduced QNet Managing Director JR Mayer. He showed sev-eral updates on the great success of QNet’s social media sites, latest products and the sponsorship of Marussia Virgin Racing.

The morning session of Day 2 was laden with great news. VMD Pathman Senathirajah went on stage to officially launch the I’m MAD (Making A Difference) campaign. He encouraged every-one to take part in this campaign. The Campaign is a charitable joint effort of RYTHM Foundation, The V and QNet. The good news doesn’t end there. As someone who is very talented and passionate about his craft, VMDPathman has been nominated Best Trainer by Obtainer Magazine which he would later on win with a whopping 97 percent!

That afternoon Mr. Ian Lyons graced the stage as well. He talked about the all new and improved Bio Disc 2. A live dem-onstration was presented that impressed all IRs.

Adding more to what has been a day of surprises; VMD Path-man introduced a new song entitled Rule 3. This quirky surprise was inspired by the hit song Empire State of Mind was sung by Malaysian indie musician Kugan together with the talented V-kids participant, Sangita Sivanesan. The V has yet another anthem that is sure to be a huge hit!

The afternoon session brought real inspiration to the audi-ence. V Partner TG Kintanar gave the first talk and he shared what got him to join the business of Network Marketing. The audience was really captivated by him as he worked his way through words of inspiration about how family was the main force that kept him going. He ended his talk with a reminder to everyone that the only way to success is persistence. Soon after another celebrity came up: the ever so charming V Found-ing Partner Joseph Bismark. In one poignant moment of his talk he showed a clip about failure and encouragement. The crowd was so moved; they hugged and held hands for comfort. The lesson in his talk was about wanting; this was in line with the earlier message about persistence. In his words VP Bismark stressed that, ‘ if you want to be successful then you need to want it like a drowning man who needs to survive.’ After end-ing his talk, he helped VMP Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran launch his book entitled ‘ On the Wings of Thought’.

Truly the Day 2 of V-Malaysia 2011 brought so much learning and inspiration to all 10,000 attendees.

Page 26: test8

V REPORTS16

n Day 3 of V-Malay-sia 2011, the show began with another book launch, this

time for V Managing Direc-tor Pathman Senathirajah’s second book titled Network Marketing for Morons.

VMD Pathman mentioned that this is a book for people who have no time to read. “It is neither too thick nor too thin, it’s just right for reading - light and easy to understand. Even a student in Level 1 would understand what Network Marketing is,” explains VMD Pathman.

Going more into detail, he explains the design of the book’s front and back cover saying “The front cover of my book is a collage of the people I love. They are my moronswho work for me, for The V. It is my way of thank-ing them for making me look good,’ he said as a tribute to the V corporate staff who are pictured on the book cover.

“The back of the book is the cutest thing ever!’ enthused VMD Pathman. He wanted to be different from traditional books where the authors have boring, adult pictures he decided to use a picture of himself back when he was a young boy.

Soon after the launch, our Associate V Partners Rose-marie Glenn and Mahendra Kumar entered the stage as the hosts for the day.

Amazed at how nicely the crowd has been behaving, our two hosts had to com-mend the audience “So, this is Day 3. Thank you for behaving guys!’ says AVP Mahendra Kumar.

At this point the topic was driven home by QLifestyle Managing Director Joachim Steffen who discussed the growth of the company and how their new arm – Q-Breaks –can help you on your breaks and on your important journey to grow your network.

Along with the presentation of the new Q-Breaks was the unveiling of their new online system which our IRs can now use.

On new products; our hosts invited another celebrity on-stage, V Partner TG Kintanar to present QNet’s innovative product In-Voice. It uses the internet on your phone or on your computer to call 67 countries and counting at a very little cost, making it a very efficient and affordable alternative to mainstream telecoms options.

Soon after that, renowned speaker Dr. Ted was on stage to talk about another great product which will not only benefit one but the whole nation. According to Dr. Ted, E-Learning is the future of education and we are pioneer-ing that future today.

On other afternoon sessions esteemed leaders came out one after the other and gave guidance and inspiration.

First up, AVP K Padma, who told us about how she has triumphed over the cards that life has dealt her by taking control of her destiny. “The size of your belief is the size of your success. Believe in the dreams of your people, and make their dreams your dreams also. Help them to succeed and when they do, your dreams then have also come true.”

VP Sathi Senathirajah fol-lowed, bringing with him his unique brand of laid-back humor and down-to-earth speaking style. He sat down on stage and talked about challenges. Everyone has challenges, and they can either be a reason to work harder or an excuse to stop trying altogether.

“If your dreams become bigger than your challenges, what do you do? You create bigger dreams! Your belief should always be stronger than your challenges.”

As a closing message, VMD Pathman came back onstage to tell us about an adorable and inspired project by the V-Kids: The I’m MAD Cupcake Challenge

Five V-Kids groups worked with five of our Associate V Partners to create the most delectable and colorful cupcakes to be sold at the

Stadium to raise funds for the I’m MAD campaign. “Buy a cupcake, save a life!” they chanted. Great work V-Kids!

Afterwards, the whole crowd got to its feet as Chris and Josephine Gross from the Networking Times Magazine paid The V family another visit, and this time they had another honor to bestow on our remarkable leaders.

V Partner Donna Imson and V Partner Pathman Senathi-rajah were both awarded the Master Networker of the Year award by the Networking Times magazine.

At the night session of Day 3, QNet Managing Director went up on stage with his father Mr. Bernhard Mayer, joining them was Mr. Michael Schmelczer, founder of Swiss Manage-ment Center (SMC) University who said, “It’s my first time here and I feel like I’m part of this family”.

A few moments later V Managing Partner Dato’ Vijay Eswaran and his lovely wife Datin Umayal went up on stage and another overwhelm-ing announcement was given to all 10,000 participants--- Dato’ Vijay is a proud recipi-ent of a honorary doctorate in Management from SMC university. Truly Dato’ Vijay is a great leader and an inspira-tion to many.

On his award, “Commitment is simply staying on path” he said. “It is through commit-ment that you learn leader-ship.”

The third day of V-Malaysia 2011 was definitely without a doubt a great success be-cause of all the inspiring talks, fun filled activities and most of all the recognitions that makes each V family member truly proud.

Party at the Putra Stadium – Day 4VMD Pathman Senathrajah greeted everyone in the Sta-dium Putra with a hearty “good morning” and proceeded to give a recap of the amazing events of the day before.

Associate V Partner Joy and Associate V Partner Gilbert Magtoto are our hosts for the day. They introduce the first speakers of the day, fellow Associate V Partners Che-

rian Mathew and David Sharma who each spoke about their experiences in Africa and Central Asia, respectively. These two AVPs have made it their life’s mission to get to know, develop and support these regions and their accounts of first-hand experiences and impressions are admirable.

Next up was formidable and well-loved V Partner Donna Imson, who did something never, seen before on the V-Convention: an all-female panel discussion.

“Yes, men and women are different. But that does not make women weaker. We can rise together side by side and achieve success,” said VP Donna.

After the panel discussion, a wonderful tribute was given to all the women in the crowd, as photo slideshow of their photos on the big screen while selected female flag bearers proudly went onstage in a vibrant parade of international colours.

Our final speaker for the mid-day session was V Partner Arun George who chose to talk about courage. He told us that the power over fear begins with the courage to know your fear; understand its roots and its causes and find out how you can overcome them. Avoiding your fear only delays the problem, but does not solve it, so facing your fear is the smart thing to do.

VP Arun also tells us that God does not give us what we wish for, but gives us opportunities to achieve those things for ourselves. If we wish for strength, God will not make you strong in a snap, but He will give you an opportunity to discover your strength for yourself.

Trainings are important too, according to VP Arun, but they are only the means to an end. “A soldier can receive the best military training in the world. He can undergo serious, intensive and expensive training but in the battlefield, with the enemy fast approaching, it will still be his decision if he will stand up and fight, or run away and hide,” shared VP Arun to tremen-dous applause.

In the afternoon session, our V Managing Director Pathman Senathirajah and V Partner Ranjit Singh was on stage once again.

V Partner Pathman together with his brothers V Partners Kuna and Sathi were very close to their mother. They love their mother so much and when she passed away, it broke their hearts. But they used this loss to make them stronger and bet-ter individuals.

V Partner Pathman together with his brothers V Partners Kuna and Sathi were very close to their mother. They love their mother so much and when she passed away, it broke their hearts. But they used this loss to make them stronger and bet-ter individuals: Lesson no. 1 you are a great salesman. Lesson no. 2 without discipline, you fail, Lesson no. 3 Love is a power-ful thing Lesson no. 4 Power of a dream, Lesson no. 5 Hard work can sometimes be no work

They captured this emotional moment with a heartwarming video dedicated to their mother.

As soon as the doors opened on Day 4’s evening session, people moved to the music and danced towards their seats celebrating with their friends and V family.

The night opened with a great feel-good vibe and a concert by Malaysia’s biggest music artists, Jaclyn Victor of Malaysian Idol, Zainal Abidin, and for the second time at V-Con, Sheila Majid.

As soon as the performances ended V Managing Partner Dr. Dato’ Vijay Eswaran came up on stage to honour someone who has been serving selflessly without asking for anything in return. A man who has given everything he has to serve to others less fortunate. It was an amazing, touching and inspiring moment when Narayanan Krishnan was awarded our V RYTHM award and we all got to learn a little bit more about the unparal-leled generosity and kindness of his cause.

Narayanan Krishnan gave thanks to the V and the V-Con audi-ence by lying flat face down on the stage in a gesture of utmost humility.

It was a tough moment to beat, but our host Associate V Part-ner Gilbert Magtoto and Joy Copreros did a good job by wel-coming V Founding Partner Joseph Bismark into the stadium.

Once on stage, Mr. Bismark called in his long-time friend to share the stage with him as thank-you recognition of his contri-butions to the company, AVP Dr. Motaz Qais.

Quoting Mr. Bismark AVP Dr. Motaz said “What do you really want? Without that clarity then you won’t know where to go.”

Soon after that VMP Dr. Dato’ Vijay Eswaran graced us with his presence once more by introducing Qi’s latest endeavour, Quest International University. A university that’s built to be completely environmentally sound structured around a man-agement and science curriculum.

The night ended with a blast to welcome the final V-Con day, Day 5.

As we bid farewell...

As we close the wonderful five days of V-Convention 2011, one of the most-awaited per-formances was of the V-Kids. Through their performance these children have shown and proved to everyone that they are the great future of The V.

First up was a beautiful 6 year-old girl from Egypt who played a sweet solo rendition of the classic song, “Moon River” on the violin. With her music she left all 10,000 V-Con partici-pants at awe.

Afterwards, a select group of kids sang “Born To Be Some-body” by teen icon Justin Beiber. The words to this song completely encapsulated the spirit of V-Kids and their emerging sense of responsibil-ity and innate confidence: I was born to be somebody/ Ain’t nothing that’s ever gonna stop me/ And this world will belong to me.

In one of their performances that evening, the children por-trayed the different challenges that networkers encounter while doing the business. The skit were created and well thought of by the kids them-selves. They’ve based each scenario with the things they see from their hardworking parents and the other V role models that they look up to.

As they near the end of their surprising and fascinating performance, they all per-formed an awesome dance number to Justin Bieber and Jayden Smith’s hit song, Never Say Never. The very talented V-Kids were given a loud ap-plause from the crowd which is a proof that everyone truly enjoyed and love these beauti-ful children.

Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran came onstage to thank the kids, and they in turn presented him with a gorgeous batik painting that they made of him. Batik is a traditional art form in several Asian countries that involves dyeing fabrics with wax to produce vibrant designs and colours.

The V-Kids Convention is especially organized to let children from ages 3 to 17 see and learn how the business really works, as well as to gain experiences that will help them grow up into upstanding people.

The V-Malaysia 2011 Exhibit

oing through the doors (which are linked to the main Stadium by a short,

wide passage) the first thing you will see is the RYTHM Foundation Booth, which proudly displays the I’m MAD campaign collage and features a helpdesk and the drop-off point for the coupons /stubs for the I’m MAD Raffle. Winners will get an auto-graphed cricket ball by cricket legend Muttiah Muralidaran.

Immediately to the right is the QNet Sports Sponso-rhips booth with its crowd-stopping, genuine F1 race car emblazoned with the QNET and Marussia-Virgin Racing logos and a mini-golf course. Independent Representa-tives, Qi staff and VIPs alike had enormous fun posing for photos with the car, playing golf and foosball.

Next to this is the Voyager Magazine booth, where the main attractions were the live-feed Social Media monitors (on Facebook and Twitter) and the first-ever Digital Voyager Magazine. Apple™ iPads™ were arranged in pedestals along the booth and everyone could try out the cool new dig-ital magazine for themselves.

Moving right from the cen-ter booths is the ISB Booth, which showcased an impres-sive array for ISB merchandise and played the latest footage and videos from the recent Bootcamp in Turkey. This is and excellent place to learn about the spirit and values of the InService Brotherhood.

Next up are the tandem booths of V Studios and VT ube. A 42-inch widescreen, touchscreen monitor called the TouchTV was installed in the booths, allowing people to browse through videos, DVD titles and use cutting edge technology to get the full V Studios experience.

One of the perpetually crowd-ed booths at the Exhibit is the V Store, a one-stop shop where all merchandise from The V could be purchased. Anything from apparel, to sou-venirs, to DVDs were available at the V Store. I’m MAD shirts and hand bands were also sold here and sure enough IRs flocked to it at every chance they got!

A new and improved V Partner Wall was installed at the middle of the Exhibit area, where larger-than-life-size images of the V Partners are gracefully lit and are open for IRs to take their photos with these esteemed role models.

V-CON MANIA32

G

Page 35: test8

The QNet booths come after the photo wall with the stream-lined and eye-catching orange and white motif that were easily visible. The QNet Booth offers a wide range of products and merchandise as well as cop-ies of Aspire and Networking Times Magazine.

Speaking of publications, across from this booth is RYTHM House Publishing, where copies of this year’s newest releases – including VMP Dato’ Dr. Vijay’s On The Wings of Thought and VMD Pathman’s Network Marketing For Morons – were exclusively sold.

Our elegant luxury items like the Umayal Collection and Ber-nhard H. Mayer Watches were also housed in their booths. At the QNet Booth, people would watch a live artist at work as one of our BHM artisans would show exactly how intricate a BHM watch is and how much time, attention to detail and craftsmanship is involved in making these timepieces.

QiComm is next and it was quite a popular spot. In the age of technology our IRs have a smorgasbord of services and gadgets that they can choose from to keep up with the times and with the demands of a hectic schedule. Helpful QI-Comm experts were also there to answer questions and teach the guests how to use some of the new products.

One of our most famous trade-mark products is housed in the next booth: the Amezcue Bio Disc. Nope, scratch that… the Amezcua Bio Disc II. Intro-duced at V-Malasyia 2011, the second generation Bio Disc offers seven wave-form rings and bi-photon light, which greatly enhances its energy field, making it even better and more effective.

Our final booths are the tan-dem booths of QVI and Bonvo, both featuring great, money-saving packages for our IRs and giving away free goodies, which were tones of fun and very, very popular!

The Exhibit Area was also home to some very exciting events at V-Malaysia 2011. This includes visits from the V Partners, book-signing sessions with Dato’ Dr. Vijay, VFP Joseph Bismark and VMD Pathman Senathirajah. VP Donna Imson and QNet Managing Director JR Mayer, along with Mr. Chris Gross and Mrs. Josephine Gross, also held a signing session for the newest issues of Networking Times Magazine. The V-Kids also paid the booths a visit, with the delighted staff handing out freebies and souvenirs to the children as they passed by each booth.

V-CON MANIA34

‘CHANGE is a necessity,’ is how V Man-aging Director Pathman Senathirajah en-capsulates the recent project embarked on by The V – the revitalization of the organization, from top to bottom.

uring the last V-Convention at Putra Stadium in Malaysia, nearly 10,000 IRs from all over the world have witnessed the

momentous unveiling of The V. For many years, The V has built its reputation in providing training and marketing support to its growing network through events and business tools – things that remain staple to this very day.

However, being the dynamic company it is known to be, The V continues to evolve. And this time, it aspires to be-come a more effective upline.

“The V has always been meant to serve as the global upline of now nearly 7 mil-lion IRs. 2011 will see massive changes on the website, VTube, Voyager. We will also be mounting more training events for the IRs to learn and gain motivation from,” explains VMD Pathman Senathi-rajah.

“Our offices in Malaysia, Philippines, Canada, and very soon, in India, play

the role very much like that of a powerful mechanism or engine that keeps The V running effectively,” he added.

With these changes, The V is certainly poised to become the most unique orga-nization in the industry.

Today, our networkers can see The V as having great networking personalities and corporate family who wake up every morning thinking about their success. If the destination is financial freedom, we will make sure that they get there.

few words from Chief Pathman Senathi-rajah on the second I’m MAD World Tour event

‘We had over 2,000 people coming from different parts of Africa -- Kenya, Rwanda, Congo, to name some. I told them that on this day, they have been tasked to ignite the fire in Africa and make the next 6 months the determining months to grow the busi-ness in the region. I spoke to them about RULE 3 and together with the 3 VPs, we challenged them to get a sign-up within 7 days and complete RULE 3 by end of the month. I reiterated that SUCCESS being a NECESSITY is no longer a CHOICE. I encouraged them to focus on being the pioneers of Network

Marketing in Uganda and this starts with them find-ing their dream. Lastly, I impressed upon them that HARD WORK is something you cannot avoid but it is better to work hard with the goal of financial freedom in the end than get stuck in a dead-end job. Wake up and smell the coffee.’

VMD Pathman Senathirajah shares his message to all of us, right after the success of I’m MAD World Tour Uganda. This is only the second time that the Chief has visited Uganda after V-Africa in 2008. Being at this event brought back plenty of very fond memo-ries for the VMD and for the other V Partners as well, since IMWT Uganda was held in the same venue as V-Africa 2008.

SUDANudan soaks up the learning and MAD-ness at the I’m MAD World Tour.

Close to 4000 people flocked to the Khartoum International Exhibition Hall on 22 July to be part of the I’m MAD World Tour.

Present and speaking at the event were none other than VMD Pathman Senathirajah, VP Adly Hassan Hamed, and VP Sathi Senathirajah

VP Sathi was all practicality and grounded wisdom as he spoke to the crowd. He reminded them of the first day they joined the business when their DREAMS were big and they’re excited to do the business. In network mar-keting or any other business, it is natural to feel a slump. And it is during these times that you have to remind yourself all the more of that FIRST DAY, the day when you signed up for QNet and let the excitement course through your veins again and spend time with positive people and your uplines.

The V’s last major event in Sudan was in 2007 for the RULE 3 World Tour, and VP Adly spoke of this event as a homecoming for The V after 4 years. He welcomed every-one on stage and spoke about the massive potential of the business and how it can help the Sudanese economy.

VP Adlyv talked about money as something that this business has given him and countless other like him. This money has allowed him to do so much with his life and to help so many people, and he hopes for everyone in the crowd to achieve this kind of freedom as well. He also spoke about ‘brainwashing’ and how it is important to al-low ourselves to listen and be influenced by to the fullest extent by thoughts of success.

The V never gave up on Sudan, that’s the message VMD Pathman wants to be made very clear. And I’m MAD World Tour has certainly created a mindboggling impact on the IRs and it is now just a matter of time before we see Sudan blossom to its potential as a market.

It was an open-air venue: an expansive marquee to ac-commodate more than 3000 people for th I’m MAD World Tour in Cote d’Ivoire on 25 July 2011.

VP Adly Hassan Hamed emanated pure passion as he talked about the importance of allowing ourselves to be “brainwashed” in the business by people who have made their mark and who can give us proper and correct guidance. This level of trust can only be found in the V family, and this is why we are the envy of all other network marketing companies.

VP Sathi Senathirajah, in his turn, spoke about challenges and how everyone in this business should expect some form of chal-lenge or another. Instead of simply giving up, we should find a solution and soldier on. Before ending his session, VP Sathi chal-lenged the participants to get 1 UV sign-up each week.

VMD Pathman Senathirajah talked about the Dream and why one must never lose sight of it. He emphasized the core activity of our business which is Presentation and that it must be done every-day. ‘If restaurants are open everyday, why can’t your QNet busi-ness be open everyday?’, challenged the V Managing Director.

Aside from thousands of IRs, high-level officials and former Minis-ters of government were also present.

The following day at 8 to 11:30am, a Leaders’ Meeting was con-ducted with VP Sathi ad VP Adly with close to 200 leaders coming from places such as Ghana, Togo and Burkina Faso.

VMD Pathman addressed the leaders and ended the session with this resounding message: You are here to make money. Have a crystal clear financial goal in your week for the week.

VP Donna, one of our most beloved and sought-after leaders, focused her talk on the importance of finding your WHY. We must have a clear and unshakable reason for doing the things that we do, so that even if times get

tough, we can look back on our WHY and find the strength to continue. This WHY gives us purpose, direction, and motivation to keep moving on. It also equally important to want to make a difference in the world, to look outwards instead of just focusing on ourselves. Most people who achieve true success do so not because of the money, but because of their desire to contribute to society and change lives. VP Arun talked about leadership. In a room with over 2000 individual leaders, VP Arun talked about the responsibility and accountability of leadership. Lead-ership is not a privilege or an honour, it is the highest form of service; as soon as you become a leader you also become a servant to those you lead and therefore must develop the right attitudes of humility, ownership and teamwork necessary for success. VP Sathi said, “Once secret of my success is the power of association. Always keep in touch with upline or downline. Surround yourself with posi-tive people so you will be inspired to have the right mind set all the time.” Like food and water, the peovvple around us nourish us and affect the way we look at the world. VP Sathi reminds us to keep our hearts and minds filled with people that can keep

us healthy, strong and ready to face the challenges ahead. VMD Pathman Senathirajah talked about the industry as a whole, and how our Independent Representatives should be proud to be networkers. He shared with the crowd the stories of some of our top leaders in the network, and how they can also achieve the same level of success. All it takes is true commitment. He asked the crowd to commit to him that each one of them will get at least one direct sign up and that they will all keep on doing Rule 3. Aside from our V Partners, also pres-ent were QNet Managing Director Mr. JR Mayer, Associate V Partners Dev Johl and Mohannad Aldandashi and V Council Members VC Zack, VC Dawood, VC Munzer, VC Rohit, VC Sajan, VC Suraj, VC Priestly, VC Wafa, VC Ibn Abbas, VC Mark Ferrera, VC Michael Ferrera, VC Yasser, VC Nikhil, VC Aarthi, and VC Ali Noorani.

Council Member Sayed Abdullah, is one of the most promising leader in the V family. He is a charismatic leader that shows great perseverance and love for

the business. Through the V he is able to touch and change lives of millions of individuals and families who dreams to achieve control of their time and financial freedom. VC Sayed has been with the V for five years and still counting. His journey was never easy. He has been through several challenges and battled many detractors. With the right combination of talent and hardwork, VC Sayed is now on the top of his game. Meet a man full of dedicationand an individual who continues to live up to our vision of RYTHM. Join us as we recount the best of VC Sayed’s journey with The V.

VC Sayed comes from a large family which makes life more challenging for all of them.

”I graduated from high school, however I wasn’t able to continue my university studies because I come from a large extended family consisting of 22 sisters and brothers which was why my parents couldn’t afford putting me through college. So later on I joined the police force with a monthly salary of a thousand dollars, this in my country Bahrain is considered to be minimum wage and 80% of it would go to the bank anyways to cover my loans.”

“Those days were the most difficult days for me especially after my mother’s sickness and I wasn’t able to afford medication or hospital care for her. During this period of my life the business presentation was presented to me but still joining wasn’t easy at all, but I saw this as the only opportunity to change my life that was getting worse each day due to my entire financial crisis. Eventually I joined and I remember this day very clearly, the 28th of April 2006, this is when my journey began.” He added.

Upon joining The V, VC Sayed immediately realized that there is so much he can do in the Network Marketing Business. But just like any first timers things may not always go as he wished it would be. But with his dedication and perseverance, today, VC Sayed has gone a long way.

“One of the most difficult times I went through in the business was losing a very large network which I built and poured my heart into for the longest time. My network collapsed and most of our members gave up on me and left. However, there are a few numbers of people who took the decision with me to

rebuild and start all over again.” VC Sayed together with some of his teammates decided to rebuild their team, but this time he made sure that its foundation will be better, stronger and it will also be known in the Middle East and eventually all over the world. ”I have a goal; i have a vision that one day I will be leading a group who is known everywhere. I use this vision as my drive and my motivation to do well in this business. Today, I am very proud that I was able to turn all these dreams to reality.”

VC Sayed Abdullah is the proud leader of the team UNSTOPPABLE. Base on its name, this team continues to grow and do better in the Network Marketing industry. ”This was the most proud moment of my business and in my life. To see my Unstoppable leaders everywhere in different countries, I feel even more proud of our achievements and I remember that this was my big dream finally coming true.” He said.

VC Sayed knows that through the V, he can change the lives of countless people around the world. That is why he never stops reaching out to others and inspiring them that no matter what life throw us, we should learn to embrace it because all of these will bring out the best in us.

“In my personal opinion, the best success method is achieved through big dreams, strong will and a burning desire of what we want. I always teach my downlines that with persistence and a strong will we can touch millions of lives and create change. My role model in life is Mahatma Gandhi, someone who made history through his extreme will to do so and through love and passion. I always recall a famous quote of his “where there is love there is life”

I have a goal; i have a vision that one day I will be leading

a group who is known everywhere.

Page 55: test8

Council Member Yousif Dawood Mohammed, shares with the Voyager team his inspiring journey in the Network Marketing Industry. VC Yousif believes that

challenges will always be there. You just have to realize that you are bigger than your problems in order to overcome it.

Before joining the wagon of successful entrepreneurs VC Yousif is a police in a Forensic Science Laboratory and Criminal Investigation department. He worked for more than 24 years. According to him “it was a tough journey and interesting as well coz everyday a new challenge comes along”. But his salary wasn’t enough to support his family as well as their dreams.

VC Yousif started doing the business on 2004. “The business was first introduced to me on October 14, 2004 when I attended a business opportunity meeting. At that very moment I already like the whole concept of this business and I said to myself: this is real. This will change my life for the better.”

But just like others, starting up was quiet difficult. “I had no money, but I borrowed to get started” he said. “Initially I thought it is easy to do network marketing. I started to present the business and products to others and in my surprised I’ve got rejected big time! The first two to three months was very challenging for me, but this did not stop me from achieving my financial freedom. I accepted the challenge and strive harder. Doing the business in Bahrain was a challenge in the start. It was difficult to let the locals fully understand and embrace the business. But my second V-Convention which was held in Malaysia made me realize that I can do it. Today, the business is big enough that it is also well known in other Arab countries and to many other foreign countries too.” He added. “Because of this I can say challenges are always there, we just have to overcome them.”

VC Yousif had the taste of his very first V-Convention experience back in 2005. “I like the way how every V member thinks. They train and inspire others by sharing their own stories of success.”

Through the years, VC Yousif has achieved financial freedom with The V on his side. He continues to share this blessing to others by introducing them to the business and guiding them to their way to a life of prosperity. “For me my greatest achievement is when I can see my network size growing and my partners are achieving their financial freedom and creating more leaders who are achieving their dreams as well. Because

of all these wonderful things I put behind all the old challenges and look for new ones to overcome. It is an interesting life with the V. Every success is not without a trial; over time V Council Member Yousif was able to formulate his own way to achieve success. “Success is always there for the person who seeks it, but for some people it is invisible, unseen not physical yet, so most people tend to give up. But if one will strongly believe in what he is doing and focus, work hard persistently, success will definitely follow.”

V Council Member Yousif Dawood Mohammed reminds everyone that “Network Marketing is a business which is same as any other business. But if you take it seriously it will pay you more than any other traditional business can offer. Feel proud of what you are doing and the rest will follow.”

...this is real. This will change my life for the

better

-Kids in India got a special treat last 05 August 2011 when V Managing Director Pathman Senathirajah visited for an I’m MAD hour with Uncle Pathman. That’s right! Uncle Pathman got to spend an hour with

these talented and beautiful children. To make the event even more interesting and fun, the kids were encouraged to create posters, drawings, collage and other artworks that they wish to share with Uncle Pathman and to the rest of the V-Kids.

“Can I just say that the awesome V-Kids made my day yes-terday here in Mumbai during the I’m MAD Hour with Uncle Pathman? The young, vibrant, & talented kids brought their handmade artwork & proudly presented them to me. I even got pink friendship bands which they all insisted I wore. Pink bands, can you believe that? Thank you V-Kids for the love & smiles. Remember what I taught you about hard work. See you all again next year.”- Uncle Pathman

T he launch of V Managing Director Pathman Senathira-jah’s second book, Network

Marketing for Morons, was a huge hit during V-Malaysia 2011.

Our beloved, self-proclaimed “#1 Su-per Moron” describes his new book as designed specifically for our busy networkers as a guide to help them master the information on the industry and be able to talk confidently about it. This is his take on the basics of the business, laying it all out in simple terms to help our IRs understand and explain to others what we do; who we are and what we aim to achieve in the industry.

VMD Pathman mentions that this is a book for people who have no time to read. “It is neither too thick nor to thin, it’s just right for reading - light and easy to understand. Even a student in Level 1 would understand what Network Marketing is,” explains VP Pathman Senathirajah.

Going more into detail, he explains the design of the book’s front and back cover saying “The front cover of my book is a collage of the people I love. They are my morons who work for me, for The V. It is my way of thanking them for making me look good,’ he said as a tribute to the V corporate staff who are pictured on the book cover.

“The back of the book is the cutest thing ever!’ enthused VMD Pathman. He wanted to be different from tradi-tional books where the authors have boring, adult pictures he decided to use a picture of himself back when he was a young boy.

During the V-Malaysia 2011, thou-sands of copies were sold and signed by V Managing Director Pathman himself.

MultilevelMarketingBusiness...Your Own Success Story

59

Page 62: test8

ne of the wealthiest men, Donald Trump, was once asked if he had to start from scratch what would he do- His answer... MLM. Yet many people dismiss

MLM as mere pyramiding. Are these two really the same? Why is there a negative general impression with MLM, as though there is something to be avoided... something that is undesirable? Part of the reason for these prejudices is simply because there’s a lot of confusion about what MLM actually is. What is Multilevel Marketing ( MLM, as it is known)? Is it for everyone? Could this be your very own success story?

MLM is a marketing strategy in which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of others they recruit, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation. It is also known as network marketing, pyramid selling, referral marketing. It is generally accepted that the first multilevel marketing plan was introduced in 1945 by the Califronia Vitamin Company (shortly afterwards to become Nutrilite). MLM involves direct selling of products and services via the personal recommendation and endorsement of “independent representatives”, sometimes referred to as distributors, which is you once you decide to join an MLM company. As an independent representative you will have to recruit, or “sponsor” others to become independent representative like you, they will also direct sell products and services of the

company. These sub-representatives form what is known as your “downline” and as sponsor you receive a commission on their sales, aside from your own. Similarly, an “upline” is formed by your sponsor and their sponsor and their sponsor. They will receive a commission on sales that you made and on sales that your downline made. According to Elena Fawkner, embarking on this kind of business is different from a normal business in that it does not have a store-front and you won’t generally see the products or services being advertised in the mainstream media.

MLM companies have been a frequent subject of criticism as well as target of lawsuits, the focus of which is its rather similarity to pyramid schemes. Are these two really the same? Make no mistake about it; the answer is NO. A pyramid scheme is merely the transfer of money from one level of the pyramid to a higher level. People will demand money from you and once you give in, most likely you can be sure you won’t see your money again. Why is pyramiding dangerous then? Because plans like these collapse when no new distributors can be recruited. And when a plan collapse, most people except perhaps those on the top of the pyramid- end up empty- handed, way before they can reap their share of the harvest. So if you are someone who wants to venture into an MLM business, beware of these scams fronting themselves as legitimate MLM business.

You only fail if yougive up on yourself.

1. Find and study the company’s track record

2. Learn about the product

3. Ask questions

4. Understand any restrictions

5. Talk to other distributors

6. Consider using a friend or adviser as a neutral sounding board or for a gut check

7. Take your time

8. Think about whether this plan suits your talents and goals

Research then is your best

tool; here are 8 simple steps

to follow :

FEATURE60

Page 63: test8

1. Write out your plans and goals! Most people fail because they simply fail to plan. Think big dreams. Set BIG goals... but don’t forget to be realistic as well.

2. Get started immediately. In order to become successful in MLM you have to be someone who is a self- starter. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before you start.

3. Take MLM business seriously. Having the right mindset you will be prepared for any difficulties and challenges. Never forget why you joined the network marketing business in the first place so you can be empowered to reach your goals.

4. Get well-trained. It will be to your advantage if you are equipped with the needed knowledge and skills in order for you to effectively sell the company brand and its products.

5. Find an excellent MLM program that works for you. The company should not be new but should have a proven record of success for their downline. It must be based on a solid product that people really need and use. Should lay out for potential members exactly what members should do to assure success. It must also offer training and continued support from experts.

6. Find a mentor to show you the ropes of the industry to help you achieve success as well. On your part you really need to have the willingness to learn.

7. Commitment and Dedication. Have patience because big incomes and success don’t happen overnight. You must commit yourself full-time in order to proliferate, or your sales will take the hit and plummet.

8. Always operate in a professional and ethical manner. MLM is a very personal way of selling. it is imperative that you are 100% behind the program you are promoting. Do not lend your name, your endorsement; more importantly don’t compromise your own self-respect for something you are not genuinely committed to.

9. Know that rejection will happen. But don’t waste time on cynics or non-motivated people. Don’t let anything knock you out of yor business and cause you to quit. You only fail if you give up on yourself.

10. Select your downline members carefully:

- always be contacting - make connections- build on your connections- offer your business opportunity after you’ve developed your connection- find out what the prospects goals are- be confident when talking to people- filter your prospects. don’t waste time on maybes- talk with your target market for better results- if your prospects ask you if this is illegal pyramid or scam, move on (because they are not serious)

11. Don’t give your representatives wild expectations. Let them know what to expect. Give your prospects the facts and you will build trust.

12. Set good examples. Help the people yu sponsor as much as you can; but do not do things for them that they should do themselves. Fill your downline with highly motivated people.

13. When you discover new things, share them with your team. Networking is a collective work and duplication is the key to success here. This means if you work well with others and if you do things right, ypu will all be able to share in the profits.

14. Keep organized with your business. Arrange your goals and your team; surely in the long run it will save you time and money.

15. Always be enthusiastic. Enjoy yourself and let others feel your enthusiasm for what you’re doing.

We all want to be successful and find fulfillment in life. Multilevel Marketing could be the answer you’ve been waiting for. Keep in mind though, if money is your only motivator it will likely fail. MLM is a tremendous opportunity to create all kinds of things you want in life. Just like the many flavors of the ice cream, there truly is something for everyone. Stay focused and turn you passion and drive into your own success story.

No one ever achieved MLM success by simply joining a program. In fact real experts will tell you that achieving success in this endeavor requires a lot of sacrifice and hardwork on your part. There are no formulas or easy way that would guarantee your success. Luckily for starters in the MLM business, there are now tips or strategies in achieving MLM success.

Turning Kenyan Youths IntoProfessional Network Marketers

t all started when she wrote a paper on “Youth and Education in Kenya” for the local Institute of Economic Affairs.

In the process, the former professor of Communications at the University of Nairobi and now V leader, Anne Gatende, discovered that youths who wanted to take advantage of the QNet opportunity in the country, had to first discard their employee mindset and be professionally trained in network marketing.

She theorised that if one could train successful network marketers through an internship programme, then the dropout rate would be fewer among those who embark upon it as a career. Besides, they would also be most likely to excel in the industry.

Gatende then approached her upline, V Council member Asha Krishnan, to put her theory to practice by starting a Network Marketing Internship Programme in cooperation with QNet Kenya.

Asha eagerly took up the idea as she felt that such a programme would enhance the level of professionalism amongst network marketers. And since then, this philosophy has become its overriding objective.

Launched in July 2010 by Gatende’s company, Training Solutions (Learning That Lasts) or TSLTL and QNet Kenya, the six-week-long pilot programme for final year university students has so far trained 51 interns, with the intake at each batch capped at between seven and 15.

“Of the 51, we have produced 12 individuals who are most likely to take up network marketing as a professional career. Those who drop out also gain from having a better understanding of what the industry is all about,” said Gatende.

Asha told Voyager Magazine that network marketing is a booming industry in Kenya, with no less than eight to 10

companies involved in it.

“Traditionally, presentations are conducted to whomever shows the remotest interest in network marketing, and this can mean meeting hundreds of people each month, a fair portion of whom come because they feel obliged to family and friends.

“This can thin our resources as the bulk of those prospected may not even join the business, whilst those who do, need to have a sound understanding of the whole network marketing industry and not just of QNet,” said Asha.

Hence, Week 1 of the programme has interns carrying out research on network marketing, its history and legal issues involving the industry.

In Week 2, interns conduct a study on one or more network marketing companies of their choice to understand their compensation plans, learn about their history in Kenya, ascertain income projections, and provide a brief on their product portfolios.

Week 3 requires the interns to study QNet as a company in comparison to its competitors and make a judgement on which is better. They also attend a business presentation at QNet to experience how this is professionally conducted.

In Week 4, the interns take a deeper look at the products offered by QNet to better understand its market segmentation and marketing strategies.

They also get to view product DVDs and learn about the different marketing tools available to the company’s Independent Representatives (IRs). At the end of Week 4, the interns take a written examination that covers their course of study up to that time.

“In Week 5, they are debriefed on the whole concept of network marketing and asked for their thoughts. By this time, the interns have almost decided if they wished to make a career in

QNet, join another network marketing business or gain traditional employment instead,” Gatende said.

Upon reaching Week 6, the interns prepare for Graduation Day where they are encouraged to invite their families and friends who also get to learn a little of what it means to be a network marketer.

“Upon completion, the interns are awarded a Certificate of Participation issued by TSLTL,” said Gatende, who added that the programme has recorded a sign-up rate of between 25 per cent and 30 per cent, though this is not its objective.

Gatende has also designed a train-the-trainer programme for those who have completed their internship and wished to make a career in QNet as an IR. So far, 13 interns have become trainers and been awarded a Train-the-Trainers Certificate.

“Through our internship programme, we have managed to enhance the professional knowledge and understanding of potential network marketers so that they can be successful in their careers, whether they work for QNet or another company,” said Asha.

One intern, Sylvia Githumbi, 27, confessed that she was almost thrown out of the programme at the initial stages.

But now, the final year International Business Administration student at the United States International University (USIU) said the programme had helped her to assess which career path she should embark on upon graduation.

“The internship programme has made me realise that network marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It requires a lot of determination, patience and hard work, but there is a huge potential market for me if I choose to make a career out of it,” she said.

Another intern, Kennedy Kimani, 26, a final year student at Kazan State Power Engineering University characterised himself as one who liked to grab every opportunity with potential to succeed.

“In my second week, when I was told to study competitor companies and gather information on their compensation plans, assess income projections, and give a brief on their product portfolios, I thought, ‘wow, this is hard work’.

“But I soon realised that this part of the internship programme is extremely important if I seriously wanted to be armed with the professional knowledge required to make a career in network marketing,” he said.

Mercy Kinyanjui, 25, an MBA student at USIU said she came from a traditional family where her parents drilled into her that only a sound education would guarantee a good job and stable career. “But now that I’m in my final week before completing my internship, I’ve come to love network marketing.

“While previously I used to dislike marketing itself, now I am even buying books on the subject. I have no doubt that this programme helps to enhance the knowledge and professionalism of network marketers,” she said.

Asha summed up by saying the internship programme launched by TSLTL and QNet Kenya is just in its infancy. “We have a long way to go before we make a serious impact with it, but we are steadily making progress.

“In the not too distant future, I believe we will have a pool of certified network marketers in Kenya who can take the industry to a higher level,” she said.

hmed, and independent representative for QNet since 2008, has been living the life anyone could wish for. Born in Tunis, Ahmed graduated with a certificate in Computer Engineering and immedi-ately started working for IBM. He was successful both in school and

at work. He studied information technology and was immediately hired by one of the top IT companies in the world.

In 2006, Ahmed married and shortly after, his little bundle of joy named Rayen was born. But times were getting harder and supporting a family with a growing child is taking a toll on him. A friend called and offered an opportunity to earn extra money through network marketing. Though a bit skeptic to jump into a new field, Ahmed took the plunge. Family is first and he needed to sustain his family no matter what it takes.

At that time, not a single product of QNet was available in Tunisia yet. Making sales is challenging especially with the political shift and revolution rising in 2010. Ahmed had product shipment and payment issues. It took a lot more time than expected for his efforts to actually payoff. He was disappointed at first, but his passion and determination made him stay a bit longer in the business. Eventually, sales were getting higher and Ahmed was starting to see the fruits of his labor. His little triumphs made him persevere more in the business.

At the Egypt PCon in 2010, just after a couple of years from joining QNet, Ahmed received a citation for the significant work he has done for his team. More than two thousand IRs attended the said event. It was a huge and definitely fulfilling moment for him. It seemed like his success story has unfolded right before his eyes. “Life has changed. MY life has changed.”, he said. Just last March, Ahmed left IBM to concentrate full time on being an independent representative—this being his biggest leap of faith.

Looking back at everything, Ahmed considers joining QNet as his wisest de-cision yet. He is thankful that he has been given the opportunity to change his life for the better. Today, he fervently lives by “RYTHM”—raise yourself to help mankind. “I finally found what I’ve always looked for and it’s now time to share it to others.”, said the devoted IR. At a young age, he learned to uplift himself so he may be able to uplift others. Besides playing football with his son and hanging out with friends, Ahmed enjoys being busy in the business and meeting many people from different cultures along the way.

Ahmed considers Mr. Pathman Senathirajah as his biggest role model. “He’s a great leader. He leads by example and he never gives up.”, he said.

In 2006 he have been sent to the US for navy course where he met one of the officers from Bahrain who showed him the business plan and this is when his great story of success in the network marketing business all began.

“My journey started in august 2007, and i was so excited about the idea and starts working on it, until the day came were i have been asked to attend Re-VCon Bahrain in September 2007, and that was my first turning point with The V. Here I have seen many example of people who used to be nobody and they became somebody. From that event I returned back home with power and passion, and started building my network locally and globally. The more I got deep into networking and The V, the more I realize how serious and effective this business is in affecting people’s lives. This i have seen by attending the various V events.” To add to his great experience with The V, VEL Bashar is also part of the InService Brotherhood “being part of the InService brotherhood has gave me the great experience of being a servant and expect nothing in return, and this has benefited me both in the business and my personnel life and that was my second turning point.”

‘In everything we do, at one point we will be faced with challenges. As for VEL Bashar, one of his greatest challenges in the business is deal-ing with people from all walks of life, with different culture and beliefs. But he also acknowledges that this has thought him so many things about success and life. “My experience thought me that no one can work alone and build his own network without having a working upline or someone to guide him through his journey “being teacher without a teacher”. As many has been there before us, so why not learn from them in this case we have to learn on how to be a student.” He said. But with every challenge that he overcomes, success and happiness immediately followed “Seeing my family specially my father standing be-side me proudly for all the things I have achieved is one of the best thing for me. I know that I have matured and became distinguished to my father. Things have changed for the better and this meant a lot for me.” For everything he has achieved, VEL Bashar has now his own formula of success which he shares to everyone. “A person needs four things to succeed in life: to have a dream, have the desire to change, believe in him/her, take the decision and be patient and determined in everything that they do.”

V-Kid Extraordinaire:Shriya Mahajan (India)

hriya is a 16 year-old 9th grader from India and she is living proof of the power and talent of our V-Kids. Voyager conducted a brief interview with this remarkable young woman:

Hello Shriya. Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m Shriya Mahajan, a 9th grader. I have a younger sister who is a 7th grader, and both my parents are part of the V and QNet family. I enjoy singing, dancing, painting, sports, reading, and writing essays, stories and poems. However, one hobby that will always top my list is Public Speaking and Elocution. I have been fortunate to win awards for the things that I am passionate about. I have won the title Bournvita Confidence Champion, gold medals for academics and big-level Olympiads, and am a gold medalist in the International Art Contest. I believe in the overall development of self so I try to grab as many opportunities as I can.

Recently I took part in the Wiz-Team Contest, where children from all over India competed in areas of talent, emotional quotient, personal-ity development, overall intellect, as well as the oratory, spontane-ous, debating, and group discussion skills. I won the title of Wiz Kid thanks to the learning I received at V-Con 2011; my heart is extremely grateful, and overflowing thanks to The V. The next step in the competition is the International Level and I am going to give it my all!

Tell us in detail, what was it like to meet Uncle Pathman in person?

When I learned that I would get to meet him in person, my excitement knew no bounds at all! When I met him in the Green Room at the I’m MAD World Tour in Mumbai, I asked him about life, success, focus, dreams; and the answers I got were so apt that they will surely leave an everlasting impression on me.

Aside from the V Ambassadors, who are your role models?

Whenever my interests shift, I would always look up to a successful person who has attained excellence in that field. Also, my parents have been the greatest source of inspiration for me. I have grown up by following their footsteps and values they inculcated in me.

Describe your V-Kids experience.

V-Kids 2011 was my very first V-Kids experience and being a part of this extravaganza was truly an honor, as I got a chance to cast aside my inhibitions, and become more confident. We were taught that caste, creed, country and language cannot stop us from con-tinuing with the friendships we have made at the V-Con.

I enjoyed the last day, when all of us at V-Kids were given the mind-blowing chance of performing in front of a crowd of ten thousand people. And how can I forget ‘The I’m MAD Cupcake Challenge which not just taught us how to decorate some delicious cupcakes, but also helped us raise funds for underprivileged kids. This exercise taught us the importance of being financially responsible and to reach out to these children through charity. We also got the opportunity to interact with the V Partners, which was truly the best thing ever.

Fofana AmaralAn Outstanding V Leader

ofana Amaral is one of The V’s most active and hard-working Independent Repre-sentative who is base in Cote

d’Ivoire. Learn more about him and his success story by going over the interview made by the V Communica-tion Team.

Mr. Fofana is from a very good fam-ily. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Economics and Management in 2005 and later on he took a Master Degree in Finance. It was in 2007 that he was introduced to the business that changed his life. “I joined the network marketing business in 20 September 2007 in India. But just like everyone new in this business, things didn’t turned out as easy as I envisioned it to be. My first eight months in the business was full of challenges, but these did not stop me. There were two different parts in my networking career. The first one was in India and the second part is in Cote d’Ivoire. The most challenging time in my car-rier was during my stay in India. Stay-ing in a foreign land with a different raise and different culture and beliefs as mine was a trial to me. But soon I realize that these differences shall not let me down. Instead I looked at it as a moment of preparation and training in making bigger decisions. All these bumps have given me a lot of learning experience.” He said. “On 2 October 2009 VC Osama El-Amin, came to Cote d’Ivoire to teach and guide us IRs in the business. From then on everything has started to move ahead with the support of The V. Today, I have direct access to great leaders

like VC Osama El-Amin, AVP David Sharma and the very supportive VP Adly Has-san Hamed.” He added.

Through network marketing and The V, Mr. Fofana has changed his outlook and mission. “At the beginning I was very much focus on just one thing, making money. Now i realise that the thing that i enjoy the most is to see how this business is helping other people to change their lives too.”

To be able to help others in this busi-ness, Mr. Fofana imparts his own for-mula for success “making leader and impart vision to people. Be in a hurry because life is short. We are focus on building a system which definitely works for all as long as you accom-pany it with perseverance.

Before we ended, Mr. Fofana left us with a very interesting thought. “When i started the business my upline gave me a name FOFANA THE KING OF AFRICA and our team name Wave 15 is the first and the best in Africa.”

NUTS

o you know the nutritional benefit of the food you eat on a daily basis? If you were just a little bit health conscious, you would exert effort in knowing. You are what you eat, as they say, so eat smart andhealthy.

Is being healthy all about looking fit on the exterior? Not necessarily. More than just looking fit and toned, we also need to take care of our brain, our body’s CPU. Many health studies have come forward saying that fruits and nuts are some of the natural health foods that are said to help keep the human brain young and sharp, but which one exactly?

Here are some of the mind-refreshing fruits and nuts you can mix and match to your delight. Let’s start with the antioxidant-rich berries, shall we?Blueberries – work like lube to a machine. Berries are more than just their delicious taste. These fruits are rich in antioxidants that eliminate free-radical damage which causes premature aging. They also possess neuro-protective properties that can delay the onset of age-related memory loss by guarding brain cells from damage caused by chemicals, plaque, or trauma. And they combat inflammation, the other factor in aging.

Keep your brain YOUNG AND SHARP

V SUCCESS74

D

Page 77: test8

Strawberries - antioxidant-rich and proven to prevent age-related neurological declines by improving various brain cell abilities. Blackberries - contain an amazing class of nutrients called anthocyanins. Our brain is particularly vulnerable to oxidative damage but anthocyanins help protect our brain from oxidation stress, which in turn fights degenerative brain diseases.

On with the nutty truth about which nut will keep your mind on high alert and ready for any task you need to accomplish for the day.

Almonds - Phenylalanine, found in almonds, can do wonders for your mental and neurological health. Phenylalanine has the rare ability to cross the blood-brain barrier where it stimulates the brain to generate natural mood-boosting neurotransmitters called dopamine, adrenaline and noradrenaline. Additionally, almonds are high in riboflavin which is known to boost memory.

Cashew - While you’re in the nut aisle shopping for walnuts be sure to pick up some cashews, almonds, pecans and peanuts too. Each nut can enhance your mental health in its own way. Cashews are high in magnesium, known to open up the blood vessels in your body. More oxygen-rich blood = better brain function.

Walnuts – Literally and figuratively, looking much like the shape of our brains, Walnuts are made up of 15 to 20 percent protein and contain linoleic (omega-6 fatty acids) and alpha-linoleic acids (omega-3 fatty acids), vitamin E and vitamin B6, making them an excellent source of nourishment for your nervous system.

Walnuts may also help correct the human brain’s seratonin levels. Seratonin is an important brain chemical that controls both our moods and appetite. Walnuts may be able to relieve disorders like insomnia, depression, overeating and other compulsive behavior, commonly treated with antidepressant drugs like Prozac, without the dangerous side effects.

Now that you know all these things, consider yourself licensed to go a little nutty and fruity next time you wind up at the supermarket for your groceries. But always remember to keep your consumption in moderation because anything in excess can be counter-productive and detrimental to your well-being.

As a result, today, we have people who buy mobile phones plainly because they think its “cool”, “pretty”, and nearly every-one has it without really knowing the full features and capabili-ties of the handy gadget. Show of hands for those guilty of this.

The rocket launcher-looking mobile phones first commercially launched in 1979 in Tokyo are officially a thing of history. Cur-rently, we have numerous types of mobile phones from different manufacturers, boasting of different operating systems and offering at least one snazzy feature different from others. It all boils down to picking the right phone for the right job.

What do you mean ‘for the right job’, you might ask. Mobile phones today no longer just make phone calls, in case you didn’t bother read the user’s manual that came with it; or do due diligence by reading online reviews. Here are some cool stuff you probably didn’t know your phone could do. Though in general, most phones today carry the same features, here are some add-ons you might find useful:

1. Voice Control – Your phone can understand you, really! Say something to it and it shall listen then do as you command. Did you know that you could press and hold certain buttons on your phone or screen and it will start listening? This could come useful when your hands are tied with work or when you’re driving to an urgent meeting. Can you say ‘Call David!’ how about ‘Read new messages’? Pretty cool, yes? If the device could understand you by listening then it must know the language and speak it. Again this comes in very useful when you want your phone to read out your messages. It makes you feel as though you have an assistant reading your messages out to you or if you’re feeling very royalty, a butler of sorts!

2. Office – This feature comes in free for some phone models. One of the defining moments in mobile computing history has certainly arrived when your phone could finally open and edit documents as you would on your desktop. MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF reader, and then some are now in the palm of your hand. What’s the advantage? You can have a view of your files on the go, adjust the slides if you must, and change something in a paragraph. And all these are contained in a single device you can put in your pocket.

3. Travel companion – WorldMate application is a very useful app for those who like to travel around the globe. It keeps you up-to-date on almost everything you need when it comes to traveling. Such as: Cur-rency exchange rate, available flights (routes etc), flight status, and even the weather condition in your destination country.

GPS – Or Global Positioning System. The beauty of traveling is the thrill of adventure and the delight of something new that it affords the traveler. Now, get-ting lost along the way is something to be expected. Suddenly, things get all unfamiliar and before you know it, you lose your way back to the hotel. With a GPS-enabled phone you will be able to spot your exact location and point you to the right direction leading to your hotel or your final destination.

5. VOIP – Note to simple phone users, your phone is also internet-enabled. VOIP or Voice Over the Internet Protocol enables you to make those impor-tant phone calls over the internet. Check your local network provider and ask for an unlimited data plan and you’ll never have to spend tons on overseas calls ever again. That is if, of course you, use a third party application such as Skype, Yahoo Chat, and Fring. This will surely cut down your bill on overseas calls and even replace your international SMS with Instant Messaging.

E-EtiquetteCommunicate Effectively Through E-mail

E-mail is one of the most widely used forms of communication. It is a way of exchanging digital messages from one person to another. It is a great tool for connecting with loved ones, colleagues, and even in marketing yourself. Through e-mail, individuals or groups can exchange files even when some parties are not present to receive the message at that very moment. For most in-dividuals who have been using e-mail for many years, e-etiquette is something that has been overlooked. So for more effective and professional e-mails, be sure that you know these 10 useful e-mail etiquettes and apply it.

Page 81: test8

nteresting subject header will help people decide whether they should open your e-mail or not. But since there is a little space for this, keep it short and concise. Make sure that your subject line is related to the body of the message.

Write a good subject header

Interesting subject header will help people decide whether they should open your e-mail or not. But since there is a little space for this, keep it short and concise. Make sure that your subject line is related to the body of the message.

Keep your e-mail short

Long e-mail can be discouraging to read. Be straight to the point. It is usually ideal to keep e-mail mes-sages short as possible but this does not mean that you have to sacrifice the content. Make sure that you get to re-lay important information clearly. But if you really have much to write, break your message into bullet points.

Review your message before sending them

Reread and reconsider every message before you click on the “send” button. Going through your message the second time will help you see possible grammar and spell-ing mistakes. This will also help you create a more effective and professional message and avoid misunderstandings.

Punctuation marks matter

E-mail messages with no period or commas can be difficult to read. If you remove it completely or put them in the wrong places, the reader may be puzzled or your mes-sage may be misunderstood.

Avoid writing in CAPITAL LETTERS

If you write in CAPITALS it usually gives the reader an impression that you are angry or you are shouting. This might trigger an unwanted response from the recipient. Also, an entire e-mail message in upper case is more dif-ficult to read than lower or mixed case text.

Talk about one topic only per e-mail thread.

To avoid confusion and misunderstanding, have one topic per e-mail message only. Start a new message thread when starting a new topic.

Be careful when using abbreviations

Abbreviations such as BTW (by the way) or LMK (let me know) allow us to type less and thus help us to save time. However, take note that your recipient might not be aware of the meaning of these abbreviations.

Proper way to end e-mails

There are many different phrases that one can use when closing an e-mail message. But since there are too many options to choose from, the proper way of closing an e-mail becomes one of the most difficult things to do. So when you are in doubt of the perfect phrase to use, end you message with “thanks” or “thank you”.

When using the cc: field

The recipient/s in the cc: field should know why they are receiving a copy of the message. Do not include people in this field unless there is a reason why you are put-ting them there.

Do not over use “Reply All”

Only use Reply All if your reply is necessary for each person who receive the original message to know about. Otherwise, screen your recipients well to avoid spamming other people’s inbox.

ASSETS

Know your waytowards financial freedom

f you were asked to stop working today, how long will you survive? Most people would probably answer a few years but some only up to a few months. This is the reality of our time; the major-

ity of the population depends mainly on their next paycheck. Their paycheck becomes the only source of income and so their livelihood becomes entirely dependent on their employer. A huge income is often equated with being wealthy but still millions of people are out there struggling financially. An educa-tion and a good job are important, but often, financial literacy is not taught in school. In an era of constant change the old dogma of, “if you study hard and get good grades your future will be bright. You will have opportunities for high-paying job with great benefits” may no longer be the only answer. Start to open your mind to an innovative idea about wealth and you will achieve prosperity beyond your dreams.

It is possible to become financially independent with exactly the money you are making now, but the things you buy must change. Purchasing assets is the simplest rule in building long-term wealth. This means that you have to spend your hard-earned money purchasing things that will add money to your pocket and not things that will take money out of your pocket. Anything you can buy that puts money in your pocket over time is an asset, but if over time it takes money out of your pocket then that is a liability. Financial and investment guru, Mr. Robert Kiyosaki, said that, what defines an asset are not words but numbers. It is not the numbers but what the numbers are telling you. Below are things that state the difference between an asset and liability. It is best to know their difference before you start purchasing stuff.

LIABILITIESv.s.ASSETS• Stocks • Mutual Funds

• Bonds

• Real Estate (that generates income)

• A business (that you own)

REMINDER # 1When buying bonds or stocks you should buy with a specific purpose after carefully analyzing the risks involved.

REMINDER # 2A business that does not require your constant presence is an asset; you own the business but you have other people to manage or run them.

REMINDER # 3When you think of real estate don’t think of your own home, think of properties that will put money in your pocket. Think of things like rental properties, houses, condos, or any rental spaces; each of these pay excellent returns.

LIABILITIES• Home (mortgages or rent)

• Credit cards

• Loans

• Cars

• Anything Financed (consumables: food, cigarettes, lottery tickets, etc.)

All those listed under liability takes money from your pocket. Maybe not immediately but in the long run they eventually will.

To start or to keep acquiring assets, it helps to have a decent income to maximize your purchasing power. Anyone can achieve prosperity if they choose to, so choose to play it smart. Many people are waiting for that perfect moment before they get going. Our advice, don’t wait for that perfect moment and instead, create one yourself. We shape our lives through our thoughts, so start traversing that road to success and financial freedom – TODAY!

The Power of

Create impact on your social and business encounter through a nonverbal communication

Eye Contact

The eyes can captivate the listener and express meaning that mere words are not be able to deliver. Maintaining good eye contact shows a good level of self-confidence. People tend to take you more seriously when you are able to hold their gaze and speak with clarity and self-assuredness. Failing to maintain eye contact with your audience or listener is often interpreted as tell-tale-sign of lying or holding back information.

Good eye contact may also indicate that you are listening. A good listener understands that eye contact is im-portant to show your interest in what the other person is trying to say.

Our eyes can be a very powerful tool when it comes to communication. It can be used in positive ways such as expressing confidence, honesty, compassion, sympathy, happi-ness, love and many more. At the same time it can also mirror negative thoughts and feelings. Through our eyes, people can also see our anger, the lies we are telling or trying to cover up, even our guilt and sadness.

Hand gestures

The role of hand gestures in communication has been debated on for years. Others believe that it has positive effect on com-munication, while others say that it creates confusion. To settle the long-standing debate, Krauss (1995) did a study on hand gesture and he came out with this as a result: An appropriate use of hand gesture can create more impact, better under-standing, and significant retention of your message to your listeners.

One can look stiff during presentations when they keep their hand clasped or in their pockets. Putting both hands on your waist shows complex thinking and this gives your lis-tener more confidence in you and in what you are saying. From time to time let your hands do the talking as well, but avoid pointing your finger at the person you are talking to as this gesture is considered accusatory and aggressive.

ommunication is the key to all types and range of success. However, effective communication does not only comprise the words we speak, but also our body movements. Our eyes, hands, posture and facial expressions are all part of body language itself. Learn their importance, make use of them, and get ahead in your personal and business life.

V SUCCESS82

C

Body Language

Page 85: test8

Body Language

Movement and Posture Be animated. Show movement in the rest of your body. Avoid staying in one place during your presentation. Reach out to your listener/s instead of keeping distance.

Your posture also affects the way you communicate with others. It can speak volumes to your audience. It creates impact and the first impression notion. According to the book Body Language by Julius Fast, arm-crossing and leg-crossing is an example of a defensive posture. Poor posture is usually associated with lack of confidence or interest. Sit and stand tall. Keep your back straight and your head back and create that good impression that will surely last.

Facial Expression

A smile, a frown, a raised eyebrow and many other facial expressions convey valuable information about your emotional state. Your expressions may actually contradict the words that you say,so pay attention to your facial expressions.

However, always bear in mind that non-verbal communication also has cultural meanings and it can be interpreted positively or negatively depending on which country you are in. So before going elsewhere, it is recommended that you get much infor-mation about the customs of your destination country. Under-stand the locals’ body language correctly as this will definitely help you avoid controversial and embarrassing situations and will also help you gain rapport and respect from the people around.

The Green Movement has been steadily increasing in strength and awareness, and more and more people around the globe are becoming environmentally conscious.

Sadly, it is undeniable that while we have access to great amounts of information, it is inevitable that there will also be misconceptions and myths about Going Green. And because of this wrong information, people are adapting practices that actually do more harm than good.

Let’s take a look at some common green myths:

Paper – yes, even recycled paper- takes a lot of resources and energy to mass-produce, and

that planting trees might heat up the earth more. Also, it is important to consider the effects of tree-planting not just on

the climate, but on the local ecosystems as well.

TURN IT OFF!

MYTH: If an appliance is off, it’s not consuming

any power.

FACT: Did you know that up to 10% of your

household’s power consumption comes from

something called “vampire power” or “phantom

power”? It’s the energy a machine keeps using

so that it can pop on quickly when you flip the

switch. The solution? Always unplug completely.

CODE CONFUSION

MYTH: A recycle icon placed on plastic bottles

means that the bottle is recyclable.

FACT: That symbol is essentially meaningless.

What matters is the number inside the symbol

which indicates if the type of plastic used is re-

cyclable. While there are many types of plastics,

some are more easily recycled than others, and

some are safer to use as they do not release

harmful chemicals over time.

POWER VEGANS

eing a Vegetarian for some is a family trait they grew up into but for most it’s a lifestyle choice. Calling a debate whether one should be a veggie lover or a meat lover because most of the time it is what we eat is what we grew up eating.

There have been several studies on why turning vegetarian is the better choice. Like, saving the planet, living longer or Lose weight, but, its better we don’t or it could take us years of proving which is the better choice so, instead lets high-light some famous people you didn’t know were actually vegetarian.

Here are a few the big names:

VEGANS WHO MOVED US

1. ALBERT EINSTEIN - was a German-born theo-retical physicist who developed the theory of gen-eral relativity, affecting a revolution in physics. For this achievement, Einstein is often regarded as the father of modern physics and one of the most pro-lific intellects in human history. He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics “for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect”. The latter was pivotal in establishing quantum theory within physics.

2. ABRAHAM LINCOLN - the 16th President of the United States, served from March 1861 until his assassination. He led the country through a great constitutional, military and moral crisis—the American Civil War—preserving the Union while ending slavery and promoting economic and finan-cial modernization. Reared in a poor family on the western frontier, Lincoln was mostly self-educated. He became a country lawyer, an Illinois state legisla-tor, and a one-term member of the United States House of Representatives but failed in two attempts at a seat in the United States Senate. He was an af-fectionate, though often absent, husband and father of four children.

3. BILLIE JEAN KING - a former professional tennis player from the United States. She won 12 Grand Slam singles titles, 16 Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, and 11 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. King has been an advocate against sexism in sports and society. She won “The Battle of the Sexes” in 1973, in which she defeated Bobby Riggs, a former Wimbledon men’s singles champion

4. DEEPAK CHOPRA - is a Indian medical doctor, public speaker, and writer on subjects such as spiri-tuality, Ayurveda and mind-body medicine. Chopra began his career as an endocrinologist and later shifted his focus to alternative medicine. Chopra now runs his own medical center, with a focus on mind-body connections. He is also a lecturer at the Update in Internal Medicine event, sponsored by Harvard Medical School’s Department of Continuing Education and the Department of Medicine.

5. MICHAEL JACKSON - was an American recording artist, dancer, singer-songwriter, musi-cian, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four de-cades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5, then the Jacksons in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.

6. JESUS OF NAZARETH - the central figure of Christianity. Most Christian denominations venerate him as God the Son incarnated and believe that he rose from the dead after being crucified. The princi-pal sources of information regarding Jesus are the four canonical gospels and most biblical scholars find them useful for reconstructing Jesus’ life and teachings. Some scholars believe apocryphal texts such as the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of the Hebrews are also relevant.

7. MOHANDAS KARAMCHAND GANDHI - was a pre-eminent political and ideological leader of India during the Indian independence movement. He pioneered satyagraha, resistance to tyranny through mass civil resistance. His philosophy was firmly founded upon ahimsa (nonviolence). His phi-losophy and leadership helped India gain indepen-dence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

So, the next time you go to the grocery just remember that some of the most influential people on earth are actually vegetarian. You never know what idea that carrot would give you. You might just turn out to be the next mover and shaker in this planet.

INSPIRATION90

The V RYTHM AWARD was created by The V as a way of promoting the practice of RYTHM (Raise Yourself To Help Man-kind), not just within the family of QNet and The V but to the rest of the world as well. It is given to any person who is able to have a profound and life-changing influence on countless people through his own personal efforts—thus epitomising RYTHM itself.

During V-Malaysia 2009, Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran was the first one to receive the V RHYTHM Award. He was edified by The V for having changed the lives of more than five million people through the vision he had more than 13 years ago. His example of humility, service and compassion re-mains a beacon of hope and inspiration to millions worldwide.

After numerous months of thorough search, The V finally unveiled the new V RYTHM Awardee at V-Malaysia 2011.

ne of the most inspiring mission-aries of this generation, rising above the rest is not that hard for the new V RYTHM Awardee.

This person has emptied his cup for mil-lions of people around the globe and very much deserving to receive this award.

This year we honour another man who has indeed surpassed all notions of gener-osity and charity and has endeavoured to restore dignity and hope for the less privileged. Narayanan Krishnan, an Indian chef turned CNN Hero has been selected as the 2011 V RYTHM Awardee.

According to CNN, Narayanan is a bright, young, award-winning chef in a five-star hotel group, and was short-listed for an elite job in Switzerland. But a quick family visit to his native India before heading to Europe changed everything. On a 4-day break before leaving for Switzerland to work for a five-star hotel, Narayanan Krishnan saw something that changed his life, forever.

He saw a man on the streets, homeless, poor and starving, eating his own waste. It was an image that changed him forever. He left his career as a chef for rich people, declined the opportunity in Switzerland and started serving the mentally ill or disabled individuals of his home town in India. Today, Narayanan continues his work of feeding the homeless and men-tally-challenged in Madurai, India with his non-profit organization, Akshaya Trust.

“I am a friend of those left behind and for-gotten,” he said on stage as he received the 2011 V RYTHM award from VMP Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran.

At first his family thought it was a tempo-rary phase, until they saw that it the truth of the passion and dedication in his ways. His mother started to help him on his mis-sion of serving the forgotten “I will feed you as long as I am alive,” she said.

Krishnan founded his nonprofit foundation Akshaya Trust in 2003. According to one of his interview with CNN Krishnan chose the name Akshaya which means “un-decaying” or “imperishable,” in Sanskrit. It was chosen “to signify [that] human compassion should never decay or perish. ... The spirit of helping others must prevail forever.” Also, in Hindu mythology, God-dess Annapoorani’s “Akshaya bowl” fed the hungry endlessly, never depleting its resources.

Narayanan Krishnan together with his team start their day at 4:00am. They cover nearly 125 miles to seek homeless people. They serve hot and tasty vegetarian meals which he personally prepares.

The Akshaya Trust serves 3 meals a day for 365 days of the year, including holi-days. Narayanan also took a six-month course on hair dressing as he wanted to groom these people to give them dignity and to make them feel that there is still someone out there who wants to care for them. In his previous interview with CNN, Krish-nan said “The panic, suffering of the hu-man hunger is the driving force for me and my team members at Akshaya,” he said. “I get this energy from the people. The food which I cook ... the enjoyment which they get is the energy. I see the soul. I want to save my people.”

A deserving winner, 10,000 people in-cluding our local celebrities, V Partners, AVPs and special guests gave a standing ovation to give respect and honor this generous man.

ncertainty, danger and despair await the estimated 700 homeless people in Madurai, India. Abandoned

and alone, they are left to fend for themselves in places where the nameless and the forsaken seek shelter.

One man made it his mission to care for these unfortunate individuals.

The name Narayanan Krishnan is fa-miliar to those who attended V-Ma-laysia 2011. He was a CNN’s Hero for 2010 and the recipient of this year’s V RYTHM Award. . Recently, he was named QNet’s Campaign Ambassa-dor for I’m M.A.D. in India.

“He is making a huge difference to the lives of street people in Madurai. This is why he has been selected as our I’m M.A.D. Campaign Ambas-sador,” said V Partner Donna Imson. The non-profit Akshaya H.E.L.P. Trust, founded by Krishnan, is now one of RYTHM Foundation’s cam-paign partners.

Krishnan has dreamed of building a haven for the homeless, often relying on the kindness of strangers for help. When completed, the eight-block Akshaya Home will provide shelter, food, and medical and psychiatric care to around 450 people. However, construction had been slow due to insufficient funds.

In response to this need, VP Donna visited Madurai on 2 August 2011 to present Krishnan with a cheque for USD40,000 on behalf of RYTHM Foundation. More than half of this amount is from QNet’s generous IRs who purchased I’m M.A.D. mer-chandise, ( T-shirts, wristbands and cupcakes)

Together with the USD25,000 V RYTHM Award grant, the total dona-tion of USD65,000 will help fund the construction of the entire seventh block which houses a kitchen, store rooms and a dining hall.

During her stay, VP Donna lent a hand to Akshaya’s feeding pro-gramme. She helped out in the kitchen (where around 1,350 portions of vegetarian dishes are prepared daily) and was delighted to make the rounds through the city streets with the Akshaya team, handing out meals to the homeless.

“It’s important to be MAD because the need is great, because we can do something about it, and because this is what we are alive for,” VP Donna said enthusiastically about her expe-rience. “The smiles I received there told me so.”

Many of you may already be MAD in your own communities. If you have a similar story, share them with us! Email your stories and photos to [email protected] or post it on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RYTHM-Found today.

PRODUCTIVEPASTIMES

Confronted by a classroom full of tough teenagers, all from underprivileged backgrounds and involved in gangs and drugs, ex-Marine officer LouAnne Johnson (Michelle Pfeiffer) takes teaching to a different level. Armed with an out-of-the-box approach to education, LouAnne used candy bars, reward incentives, and trips to the theme to get her students respond to her lessons.

Making them change their beliefs that they are failures, the students even-tually follows a path which never existed in their former lives. The film is a heart-warming tale of one person having the courage to influence a lot of young lives while seeing her life’s purpose in the process.

Dangerous Minds makes us realize that it doesn’t take a whole army to make a difference; sometimes it just takes one good soul to start the revolution.

I’ll Stand By You is a popular hit from The Pretenders’ sixth studio album, Last of the Independents. The 1994 song was written by Chrissie Hynde in collaboration with songwriting team of Tom Kelly and Billy Steiberg.

The song is a ballad that provides love and faithful assistance in times of per-sonal darkness. It’s about lending a helping hand or a crying shoulder during someone’s darkest hours, being a company to rely on no matter what. This song is great to listen to when you are at your lowest and you want some assurance that you are not alone in your struggle.

I’ll Stand By You has also become a hit single for the British group Girls Aloud in 2004 and American Idol Carrie Underwood in 2007.

Considered a classic novel of literary political fiction, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a tale of dictatorship published in 1949. Full of vivid imagery and great prose, Orwell had a unique understanding of the political future planned for the world by powers we’re not supposed to know about.

It introduced the concept of Big Brother - the eye of the government. The au-thorities keep a check on every action, word, gesture or thought. The charac-ters want to live normal lives, but are prevented at every turn by “Big Brother”. Winston Smith, the protagonist of the story became the vehicle in unraveling what really happened in the past, contradicting what the authorities told its people.

This classic is a real page-turner for people who like political fiction.
