With t he D iamond Jubi lee, Euro 2012 f o o t b a l l a n d T h e Olympics, 2012 is set to be a year to celebrate in Great Britain; what better way to see and hear all the action than with the latest home cinema equipment? As well as being specialists in satellite and aerial systems, One Degree West also offers the latest in state-of-the-art sound and vision technology including home cinema and home automation – both systems have moved forward tremendously over the last few years and are now more affordable than ever.
Whilst this area of home technology can be very exciting, One Degree West also understands it can be quite daunting. If you go to them you won’t be bombarded with technical speak, instead their experts will talk you through the process step-by-step, figuring out the right package for you. Their new showroom, based in Ludgershall, can demonstrate how home cinema and home automation systems can enhance your home. They can offer advice on multi room audio/video, plasma TV's and projectors and automated lighting systems, in fact anything to do with individually tailored sound and vision systems for your home.
Multi-Room Music SystemIf you are looking for a state-of-the-art Hi-Fi system how about the Sonos Multi-Room Music System? It creates multi-room audio Hi-Fi in which different rooms play the same, or different, songs simultaneously throughout the house – you can even take one of their ZonePlayers into the garden with you too! The system is controlled by the Sonos Controller, a wireless handheld remote equipped with a colour LCD screen that controls music streaming and zone selection. You can also get
software for iPhone and iPod touch, Mac and Windows computers to enable you to control the system through these devices.
To find out more about the range of services Nick and his team can offer you, give them a call on 01722 480018, or make an appointment to pop into the showroom for a demonstration.

ESTABLISHED IN 1978 by Alan Drummond, Drummond Heating is a family run plumbing and heating business based in Romsey, Hampshire.
Growing up on a Southampton estate as one of 11 children in a three bed house, life could have turned out very differently for Alan and his brothers.
Leaving school at just 14, Alan began work on Southampton Docks to support his parents.
After a short stint as a motor mechanic, Alan met his wife Diane and was given the opportunity to retrain as a heating engineer, before setting up Drummond Heating at age 24.
Brothers Robert and Tony Drummond joined the business in 1981, followed by their sister Rosemary in 1994.
A Real Family Aair
Children, Christopher (28) and Heidi (29), are now also part of the team and hope to continue their father’s success.
With over 100 years combined plumbing and heating experience, this is a family led rm that you and your family can depend on.
SINcommitment to evaluating its programmes has grown exponentially; between 2004 and 2010, more than 95 external evaluations were commissioned under the EPG framework (Figure I). These formed the basis of the Meta-Evaluation
Reports, produced annually by ACF-UK, representing some one of the most systematic appraisals of the organisations’ performance. Evaluations have also played
A key role in strengthening the evidence-base for new and innovative areas of ACF intervention, including

April 2012 - West Dean Village Fete is announcing a big change for its 2012 event on June 2nd 1-5pm. Opened by Jon Cuthill, presenter of BBC1 programme “Inside Out”, this year not only does the fete promise to be so much bigger, it will essentially have a rebrand with a fresh look and feel, following the Royal Theme for the Queens Jubilee. Embracing new and exciting ideas whilst reinvigorating the old village traditions, the fete will this year combine highly ‘competitive’ games such as the inter-pub tug of war competition and dog show, with a food and craft fair, vintage car and tractor display, children’s crafts zone, livestock area, plus a plethora of fabulous stalls from local shops and sellers. Furthermore, an awe inspiring hawk demonstration will open the show in the main ring.
The addition of the new food area for 2012 promises to provide a forum for local farmers and producers to sell their home grown produce, and with many scrumptious treats to eat and drink from the Village Teas, Ploughmans Bar & BBQ and Country Pimms Tent, there will be so much to choose from.
Children are invited to join in with the many exciting activities such as a percussion procession, country dancing, dog show, fancy dress competition, pony rides and much, much more. Furthermore, a free craft tent will be onsite with 3 different art and craft activities for the children to get as creative as possible. So you parents can rest assured that your little cherubs will be kept busy and entertained.
Commenting on the exciting changes for 2012, Chairman, Derek Howland of the West Dean Fete Committee added, “We are very excited about this year’s event and are busy working hard to ensure we continue to recruit new and exciting sellers, demonstrations and activities,” he continued, “We are hoping to attract people from the broader area to come and really enjoy our lovely village setting and all we have to offer. It will be easy to reach for many as we have a train station with direct lines to Romsey, Southampton and Salisbury, so people can make it a nice day out for all the family.”
With an expanded committee, bringing even more energy and bright ideas to the table, there has been a renewed passion for developing and supporting the local community and the families, organisations and businesses within it. With some fantastic raffle and

Your Local Family Business with over 55 years experience
Carole Bazzoni, Franchise Owner of Martin & Co Andover has been recognised for her high level of customer service after entering the Estate & Letting Agent Awards 2012.
The Estate & Letting Agent Awards are the largest and longest running awards in the estate and letting agent industry and are the only awards judged on feedback from customers.
For the second year running the competition has recognised individual excellence by short listing members of staff based on the feedback received from their own clients.
Twenty-five members of staff from agents of all different shapes and sizes have been shortlisted and at the awards five individuals will receive a Highly Commended Award.
Carole Bazzoni commented: “I am delighted with this recognition; it means a lot to be shortlisted as this is from feedback from my landlords. It is great to gain feedback and to know that I have built up an excellent working relationship with my landlords. Thank you to everyone that took the time to vote for me.”
In total twenty-seven Martin & Co offices have been shortlisted and will be joining agents from seventeen regions across the country for the Gold
Award at a local level. The Martin & Co network are also defending their title of Best Large Letting Chain – Gold award 2009, Silver in 2010 and 2011 and are hopeful of success at this year’s awards.
The regional and national and individual winners will be announced by Phil Spencer, the TV Property expert at the 9th annual ESTAS ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane on 20th April.
For further information about Martin & Co nationally please contact Marketing Director Jayne Codling on 01202-405543 or email [email protected].

Andover Buffets provide quality home cooked buffet catering in and around the Andover area, suitable for all occasions, buffet catering that is tailored to your specific needs and to your budget.
So whether your need is for a family event such as a small gathering at home to celebrate a life, through to a large sumptuous wedding, or for the business community e.g. lunches and events, Andover Buffets can exceed your expectations.
Importantly I can work to your budget – not necessarily on a per head basis
I prefer not to work on a fixed ‘per head’ basis because I believe this can very quickly become unnecessarily expensive, especially for larger numbers where economies of scale should (but often don’t) come in to play and it also allows me to be flexible with your requirements.
Because I work from my home, I can keep overheads to a minimum and therefore the costs of my services are very competitive, despite using high quality and, where possible, local ingredients – my preferred suppliers of fresh ingredients are: Waitrose and Laverstoke Park Farm.
Passion for food is so important, costs absolutely nothing but adds so much value to the end result – why not have a look at the photos of my food, some of which are detailed above, throughout my website www.andoverbuffets.co.uk and see the sample costs in the menu section, covering both family and business events. Hopefully you will see what can be achieved at very reasonable prices.
So if you are considering catering for a function, why not contact me first for a quote.
Introducing Andover Buffets whose philosophy is simple: “Buffet food need not cost a fortune; it just needs care, expertise and above all passion to ensure a positive overall experience.”

Apex Care is a specialist home care provider. It has been successfully assisting and bettering the lives of those in need for over a decade. As well as extending its services to the frail elderly and people with learning disabilities, Apex Care also welcomes physically disabled and younger people who require care but want to remain in the comfort of their own homes. With elderly people becoming less reluctant to enter residential homes, the demand for Domiciliary Care has become significantly more important in the past few years. Apex Care has responded to this demand and has developed its services to make itself one of the leading home care providers in the industry. It strives to provide care workers to clients in both the care homes industry and to individuals within their own homes. Its customer-focused service complies with the requirements of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 and thus customers requiring the care of Apex Care can be assured that their needs will be met by a professional organisation, in accordance with accredited guidelines.
Apex Care offers its customers an assortment of care services.
⋅ Home Care for the elderly is for those individuals with a less severe need for care. Customers can invite carers into their homes for short term visits or for help with specific tasks such as bathing or light domestic duties.
⋅ Palliative and Terminal Care is a compassionate care service for customers who are chronically or terminally ill and require care to manage their symptoms. Given the sensitiveness of the situation, carers are trained to adopt a specialist approach to both the customers, their families and can even offer support for bereavement and grief.
⋅ dementia Care can be provided to customers in their homes, depending upon the level of dementia symptoms they experience.
⋅ Live-in Care is the most comprehensive of Apex Cares services. Customers are enabled to remain in the comfort of their own homes, whilst benefiting from the services of a live-in carer who can look after you and manage your household. This service allows you to live YOUR way in YOUR home whilst providing you with companionship and support from a friendly carer day and night.
Along with caring for clients with varied needs Apex Care also offers a wide spectrum of first-class and useful services. Although your needs can be met upon request, the most commonly entreated services are:
⋅ Home Help for customers needing help with shopping, housework and/or the preparing of meals.
⋅ A pop-in service is available for clients wanting assistance with small but essential household tasks.
⋅ A Personal Care service is often used by customers requiring assistance with bathing and dressing.
⋅ night Sitters and Sleepers are carers who spend the night at your home, allowing customers to enjoy the peace of mind and security at night.

The merger of two of the area’s leading legal firms has created a business whose focus will combine specialist legal expertise with a passion for the community.
The coming together of Parkes Browne in Andover and Brockmans Solicitors at Stockbridge will provide an expanded team of more than a dozen specialist staff able to service a wider area.
The firm’s incorporated name is DBB Law LLP, but will be known as DBB Solicitors.
Managing Partner Michelle Duckworth heads a management team including David Browne and Alison Brockman.
“We are very flexible in our hours and approach,” said Michelle Duckworth.
“We visit sick and elderly clients, we offer a flexible cost structure and our team is reactive to clients’ needs. Clients expect an out of office service. We are available outside standard 9-5 office hours and have the resources to meet that expectation without extra cost,” she added.
“We are totally transparent and offer specialist legal advice at economic prices with no hidden costs. DBB Solicitors is distinct, with a fresh perspective.”
Alison Brockman sees the merger as meeting the changing landscape of the legal industry by adopting
a new corporate image and approach.
“After working together over the past decade there’s a real synergy between us, with a similar approach to client care,” said David Browne.
“The merger has provided a platform for us to further expand and grow,” Michelle said.
“We are accredited by the Law Society within their Conveyance Quality Scheme and also members of APIL, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers which ensures high standards of client care are maintained, and we are also members of Resolution which aims to ease the path of divorce,” said Alison Brockman.
The firm is taking a more holistic approach to the law and is passionate about making a difference and getting involved in the community.
“We want to hear the community voice and react to it,” added Michelle.
They are already involved in work experience schemes and are active in the Andover Apprenticeship Scheme.
DBB Solicitors also regularly cater for high net worth clients and are specialist commercial advisors, and as the two offices are a totally unified business, clients can be seen at either location.

For many years we've used one supplier, thomas exchange, to exchange our currency. Come to think of it, it's many, many years, even when we were based in Victoria, back in our London days. We still use them to this day, buying online. their front page makes it easy for visitors by showing euros and dollars. they supply commission-free holiday money and traveller's cheques. We've found they always give a better rate than high street banks, the post Office, m&S and all travel agents. You buy online and the cash arrives the following day by post, for which you have to sign. their website is www.thomasexchange.co.uk so there you go, a tip straight from the horse's mouth.

How often ‘Sold Out’ becomes ‘Not Sold Out’ because of cancelled cabins! We’re always sympathetic about cancellations because very often they’re caused by family problems. but misfortune for some is opportunity for others. We’ve two cancelled cabins on our Douro cruise in July. And no wonder the cruise was sold out! the value, with add-ons, was just amazing! At £655 per person for a main Deck cabin on a 5-star ship, cruising 4 nights with full board, plus 3 nights b&b in a 4-star hotel in July, it was a steal! It sold out so quickly we didn’t even keep a waiting list! So it’s first come, first served. even more amazing, the price is still the same! It should now be at least £840 due to massive flight and hotel price increases because of high season demand! but to sell these two cabins quickly, we’ve held the price. please don’t ask for any airport but Gatwick because, believe it or not, that’s all we can get! Cliff and rose are accompanying this cruise and can’t wait for their fourth visit! maybe, just maybe, they will see you in Oporto!

A no-flying cruise with a superb itinerary on a superb ship. Reykjavik, capital of Iceland, is stunningly beautiful. Klaksvik, with its famous pyramid mountain towering over the entrance to the harbour, is the fishing capital of the Faroe Islands. You still have Flam, Olden, Bergen and the fjords to come! Not forgetting, of course, that the 122,000 ton Celebrity Eclipse is, to use the cliché, a destination in itself. The whole world of northern European civilisation opens up before you, every port of call a history lesson. And as for the shopping, it could melt your plastic if you’re not careful. Whatever you’re interested in, you’ll find it. But don’t think all the fun is ashore. There’s so much to do onboard you may never get off!

There’s many a port of call that would love to boast of half the facilities you’ll find onboard.

A wonderful cruise on Celebrity Eclipse with an equally wonderful itinerary. All we have to do is mention the names: Malaga, Villefranche, Rome, Lisbon, Gibraltar and so on, a roll call of the Mediterranean’s finest ports of call. Malaga is one of the oldest cities in the world. Perhaps its most famous son is Pablo Picasso.

A Professional Family BusinessEstablished for over 25 years
Looking for a reliable builder for a new extension? Need a new patio or a loft conversion? Or even just need a roof tile fixed?
We are a professional family business based in Weyhill near Andover Hampshire. We provide services to the domestic, commercial and industrial markets. Allow us to quote for your insurance claim.
We’re lucky to live in Test Valley, according to the latest survey from the Halifax, which placed our region in the top 20 rural areas to live in Great Britain.
Test Valley actually came 14th out of a total 119 local authority areas across Great Britain. We scored particularly well for employment at 81.4%, well above the national average of 70%. But the score also took into account factors like the weather (although the Isle of Wight is the sunniest spot), income levels, health and life expectancy, as well as things like broadband access, education (class sizes and GCSE results), crime, population density, traffic and CO2 emissions, and affordability of housing (compared to local earnings), all giving us a relatively good quality of life.
But if we didn’t live in Test Valley, the other places to consider would be the East of England as East and South Cambridgeshire, and East Hertfordshire came first, third and fifth respectively, with Wychavon in the West Midlands coming second. Other Hampshire places featuring in the top 50 include East Hampshire (32) and the New Forest (44). Wiltshire featured in 39th place.
That said, I’m not planning to move any time soon! Test Valley is such a wonderful place to live with its varied rural
landscape, picturesque villages and towns like Romsey, Stockbridge and Andover, all with the beautiful River Test flowing through it.
And now the serious stuff… how they gathered the data in Halifax’s own words: “The Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey tracks where living standards are highest in Great Britain by ranking local performance across key indicators covering the labour market, the housing market, the environment, education and health. The survey examines all 119 rural local authority districts and is based on data at local authority district (LAD) level. Data has been gathered from a number of sources, including Halifax, Point Topic (Broadband data), ONS, DEFRA, the Met Office, the Department for Transport, Department of Children, Schools and Families, the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the Welsh Assembly, Northern Ireland Government and the Scottish Executive.”
For more local Test Valley articles, as well as local videos, event listings, and a groups section designed to help local organisations raise their profile and grow membership, take a look at www.inspiredcommunity.co.uk, or call Angela on 01264 710 033.

Are You In Danger Of Losing Your Memories? Think backup! advises Peter Clarke from PC PAL
When asked what people most fear when their computer dies the answer is usually losing their photos. With the digital age well and truly upon us most photos are only kept in one place; the computer. So how do we protect from this potential threat (and it’s not just your photos!)? The answer is a simple one – backup your system adequately on a regular basis.
What options are open to us to achieve this peace of mind?
• DVD – You could simply choose to copy your files onto a DVD. This is a simple process but requires you to choose the appropriate files and remember to do it! You may also need many DVDs depending on how much data you need to copy.
• USB drive – This involves attaching a USB drive and copying your files to it. This can be achieved using the software that comes with the USB drive and setting it up so you can schedule the backup to happen automatically – no more having to remember to backup new photos and files!
• Web based (eg Cloud) – uploading your information to the internet on an encrypted i.e. very secure site. This type of backup is done in the background automatically and will happen every time you change a file or add a photo to your computer. It has the added bonus that if your PC and back up device are both stolen then your photos and other files are still safely waiting for you to access them.
So what is right for you? There are pros and cons of all types of backup and a combination is always a good idea; a personalised backup plan for your situation is probably best.
If you have questions regarding this or any other computer issue then contact PC PAL on 01264 931000, email [email protected] or visit www.pcpal.co.uk

If you’ve got a head for heights and a sense of adventure, you’ll love the newest attraction to Test Valley: Tree Runners in the beautiful Harewood Forest just outside of Andover.
The brand new high ropes course gives you the opportunity to climb high amongst the Douglas Fir trees, daring you to walk across suspended and wobbly planks, fly between the trees on a zip wire, and jump from a perfectly good platform just a little too high from the ground. I spent a couple of hours there and had a thoroughly good time.
There are courses with different levels of difficulty that you can work through. And the great thing is that they have a course especially for kids to go on without needing adults to be with them – perfect to entertain them on weekends and school holidays.
It also feels very safe as Tree Runners have installed the latest in equipment and harnesses where it is impossible for you to not be connected to the wire: only one carabiner can be unlocked at a time so there’s always one that stays connected (honestly, it makes sense when you try it). For the kids, the system keeps them attached all the time so they don’t need parents to be on the course with them.
When I first arrived at the course, I was surprised to see just how many people were there; over 100 people had come that day and business has been brisk since they opened, according to Tree Runners founder Ben Emley.
My Tentative Forest AdventureI was keen to get going, and after a briefing about how it all worked, we climbed up to the first platform
on the ‘green’ course. I ’ l l a d m i t , a s I t o o k m y first step off the platform a n d o n t o the wobbly planks high up o f f t he ground, my h e a r t wa s beating fast bu t I t r ied hard not to let i t show. It didn’t take long to get into the swing of things and i t q u i c k l y became fun.
The highlight was definitely the long zip wire to what I thought was the end of the course. But oh no, to get off you have to launch yourself off a platform to do a ‘base jump’. While I had watched Ben do it (he said even he took a second to think about it although I’m not sure if that was just to reassure me!) and had seen that once he’d leapt, the descent was fully controlled, I still found it very hard to take that leap. After a bit of dithering I made myself do it and then wondered what the fuss had been about! It was a very satisfying feeling to have conquered that
little bit of fear and to know I’d completed the first course. I’ll definitely return to try the next levels although the final Tarzan swing sounds shocking.
Adventurous Ben’s Discovery of Forest Rope CoursesBen has run the paintballing course in the same forest for the past eight years (originally set up in 1997). An adventurer at heart, he has opted to go on several expeditions with bushman Ray Mears to Belize and Namibia. But it was during his time in France, where he canoed, white water rafted, and cycled across the country by himself (read a very entertaining account of that trip here), that he came across these kinds of tree courses.Climbing High in the Treetops of Harewood Forest

Believing Harewood Forest with its Fir trees to be the perfect place for such a course in England, Ben first applied for planning permission six years ago. Finally, after a lengthy battle to get permission, Tree Runners was opened at the end of March 2012.
It’s not the first of its kind in the UK: Go Ape brought the concept to the country back in 2002 and now has 28 courses in Forestry Commission land across the UK. But Ben believes his course is different: “We’re totally safe using the new harnessing system, we have nine tree-to-tree zip lines, which no one else has, we’ve got snowboards and bikes you can use high up in the trees and we can be more adventurous so we have plans to grow the course and open up Harewood Forest to people”.
This part of Harewood Forest is unusual in that it used to be a municipal dumping ground for tanks, which is why it has proper access with concrete roads making it possible for Tree Runners to be based here. Ben leases the land from owner Lord Camden , as he does with the paintballing.
To get Tree Runners going, Ben secured private investments of £250,000. He then chose a French company to design and build the course over five weeks (which they did in the snow in February apparently!). He’d like people leaving the military to know there are
opportunities to work at Tree Runners as well, having enjoyed working with them before at the paintballing course.
Have a Go!Tree Runners is a great destination for adventurous people and for families. Ben would also like to attract office team building groups, hen or stag parties and school parties. Prices for adults (oaks) are £30 at peak time or £22 off peak; for kids aged 10-17 (saplings), it costs £20 peak, or £15 off peak; and for little ones aged 6-9 (acorns), it’s £12 peak or £9 off peak.

Baroness Tyler, The Head of Relate recently stated in the Times newspaper that couples in their forties should undergo a relationship MOT in order to prevent their marriage falling apart as the strain of midlife takes its toll. She particularly highlighted couples who lead parallel lives spending what little free time they have doing their own thing.
Statistics are showing that divorce rates have surprisingly been falling since 2002 but figures published in December 2011 show a rise of 4.9% overall with the sharpest rise amongst the 40-45 age group.
So where do couples get to in their relationship when one or other partner gets to this age? When we take time to reflect on partnerships and life it is probably no wonder that this age group struggle. Individuals within a relationship have gone through setting up home, having a child or children, perhaps struggled to build up a business or career, changed jobs and even relocated and moved home at least once if not more. They have perhaps soldiered on through life events like redundancies, illnesses and bereavements. There has possibly been no time to pause and just talk together about how many of these life events might have impacted on them. Instead there have possibly been demands from immediate family and others for help and support. Even couples who believe that they have a strong relationship can become so busy that they take their eye of each other whilst they attend to everyone and everything else; UNTIL THE CRACKS START TO APPEAR….. And often one or other might react in confusion, question what is happening, perhaps blame the other. Usually there is no space or time to take a step back to reflect on where the years have gone and what has happened to the other person in the relationship and most importantly why this has happened.
As Baroness Tyler observed – We take time for “health checks, dental check-up and even put our cars through MOTs”. And yet most people do not invest time in their emotional lives and in particular in their relationship. We meet the person we love, and with all our hopes and dreams, commit to marriage or a partnership but then somehow think that things will just work. It seems that often there is a feeling that people within a relationship have changed and therefore the inevitable answer is to part, begin a new relationship etc.

Perhaps a little time spent within a couple counselling session could help if you feel that your relationship might have got into a rut and communication has broken down or if either or both of you just feel plain lonely within the relationship. The start might be to book an assessment with a couple counsellor to talk over how each of you might be feeling. Try not to wait until the relationship has reached a crisis point when things might be said and done which makes going back painful and difficult. Perhaps you might like to call to make an appointment for both of you. Wings is also running a workshop on four Tuesday evenings commencing in May. This is aimed at couples to explore various means of communication and to identify what might be getting in the way of each person in the relationship being heard more clearly. To book please visit our website our call us on 01794-511554 or 07946-400257.
