Properties of terelyne

1. Tereylene is a very strong fibre and will suffer very little loss in strength when wet.

2. It is elastic in nature and posses the property of resist creasing.

3. IT can be set into permanent pleats when subjected to the correct temperature, at the time of manufacturing.

4. Terylene is easily washed and dries quickly.5. It is non-injured by acidic substances when used in the moderation process. Neither bleaches or dry cleaning agents can harm it.

HOW IS TERELYNE PREPARED

Page 5: Terylene is a synthetic polyester fibre produced by polymerizing ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. The fibre was first created in 1941 by chemist.

Terylene was the first wholly synthetic fibre invented in Britain. It was created by the chemist J R Whinfield of Accrington in 1941

JR WHINFEILDWhinfield and Dickson discovered how to condense terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol to yield a new polymer which could be drawn into a fibre.

• It is made by polymerizing ethylene

glycol and terephthalic acid. Cloth

made from Terylene keeps its shape

after washing and is hard-wearing.
