EASY TO GO: Mobile measuring system „CARELLO“NEW„CARELLO“ was created and constructed to comfortably measure long distanceconstruction sites. The system allows handling of the device without having tocarry it around construction sites. The complete mechanic is lifted under thediagonal grips of the load plate. A centrally positioned magnet fixes the leadingpole of the drop weight additionally.

The measuring box is fixed in the appliance and is wired with the load plateand can be used comfortably during the entire measuring procedure.

The load plate is simply deposited for the test. The „CARELLO“ is driven backand the test can be done. Without having to carry the device. Again after the testthe mechanic is lifted under the diagonal grips of the load plate and will be drivento next testing point.

This really is how the light falling weight deflectometer becomes light.

On the included chip card (64 kb) theuser can save over 125 test results. Simplyinsert the card into the device and the testresults will automatically be stored. Thetest results can easily be transferred to thePC with the included external chip cardreader. The chip card is reusable, therefo-re the data can be cancelled or replaced.Of course the chipcard and the externalchipcard reader are included in the „Allinclusive kit“ TERRATEST 3000 GPS.

The user can immediately documentthe test results on the construction site.The device offers an integrated miniprinter which enables test results to beprinted out on location.

Next to the Evd-value the three displa-cement curves the maximum displa-cement together with the displace-ment speed as well as the GPS-coordi-nates of the test location is displayed.Later each test result can be printedout on the pc as a DIN a 4 protocol.

To save important construction site in-formation such as material or height de-tails the device is equipped with aneasy to use text input function. Withhelp of the key pad the user can inputspecific construction site informationonto the device directly on location.The data is automatically stored ontothe chip card for later transfer and ana-lysis of the test results, and are then sto-red onto the pc. The data input func-tion makes hand written notes irrele-vant.

The patent pending GPS-system re-gisters and safes simultaneously thetest result and the GPS-position. Thisallows the test location inclusive ofthe Evd-value, date and time to bedisplayed in the Google® Earth satel-lite photo. The GPS-coordinates areautomatically translated into theGauß-Krueger-Coordinates, the testscan be directly integrated into CAD-plans (but only in countries whereGauß-Krueger-Coordinates are sup-ported).

That way the single test results canbe at a later date allocated to the testlocations. The precision of the GPS-coordinates depends on the amountof satellite present.

Usually for the business usage there is a fee when using Google® Earth.However the software „TERRATEST“ automatically links Google® Earth in throughan integrated internet link. The user does Made in Germany not have to down-load Google® Earth onto his computer. That way the annual fees for Google®

Earth are eliminated.

We advice to take always the calibration chart of the instrument with it. The test value Evd corresponding to the mini-mum requirement Ev1 of this calibration chart has to be taken as sample and proved.All information is without guarantee. To be sure of the results the user should compare all test results of the Light falling weightdeflectometer with bearing capacity test of the static load plate test or other official test methods according to his country stan-dard. For interpretation of geological situations the user has to consultate an official test-laboratory accepted in his countrystandard. Please be aware of country specific test regulations!

8.1 Conversion of the minimum requirementsA minimum requirement referring to the first loading modulus Ev1 of the static plate test can be proved by means of thedynamic plate test. The conversion of the minimum requirements of the first loading modulus of the static plate test (Ev1)with the dynamic deformation one of the dynamic plate test (Evd) for non cohesive soils is:

for Ev1 ≥ 25 MN/m2 is: Evd = 10 + 4–5

Ev1 for Ev1 < 25 MN/m2 is: Evd = 6–5

This relation is represented in chart 1.

Advice:With chart 1 you can convert the requirements (limit values), but it`s useless for the conversion of the test values (Evd - Ev1). During the preparation many factors have been taken into consideration: the influence that comes into playin cohesive soils during the excess pore water pressure, the dispersion caused by the increased test number and thedeviations due to the various technical attempts in presence of high stiffness.

The dynamic plate loading test doesn't replace the static plate loading testas provided by the national regulations.

schematical description for the correlation assessment of the static/dynamic plate loading test

The test methodes performed with the static plate andthe dynamic plate differ from each other especially inthe load speed and the pressure exerted on the ground.Because of this reason there’s no constant correlationbetween the parameters Md and Evd. In order to obtaina quite precise correlation, it’s suggested to perform aspecific comparison correlation test for each site.

In order to have correlation values for the materials touse, we advise you the following procedure.

Verify that the materials have reached a suffiecientcompaction. Perform a test with the static plate on thearea to be tested. Then, around that point, carry outeight tests with the dynamic plate at 30-60 cm and 45 degree distance from each other. According to thesite size, it’s necessary to take different tests in succes-sion along the compaction line. You have to perform atleast 3 test sequences at a distance of 20 meters fromeach other. At the end of the dynamic plate test you candetermine the water content of the backfill materials.The loading vehicle has to leave the area very careful-ly in order to avoid any ground displacements. Thisprocedure must be repeated also on other points of thearea to be tested. After that the mean values of the Evdvalues are compared with the mean values of the Mdvalues obtained with the static plate test, if the watercontent of each test point is not too different from eachother.

In order to calculate the mean Evd value, out of the 8tests the highest and the lowest values won’t be consi-dered. Only the 4 values that showed results closed toeach other will be taken into consideration.

With the correlation values Evd/Md obtained, you canperform all the tests you have to take with the light fal-ling weight, at least when the same materials are em-ployed. We suggest to perform a correlation of valuesbetween the purchaser and the contractor in order toagree with the test method.

The light falling weight deflec-tometer offers you time andmoney saving compared to theclassical bearing capacity testsperformed with a loading ve-hicle.
