Dear Parents amp Guardians

Our Principalrsquos Coffee and Cookies last month was a great time to share reflect and communicate our needs and perspectives with each other Ideas and parent feedback will be shared with the schoolrsquos leadership team to help improve our school We plan to hold a Principalrsquos Coffee and Cook-ies every quarter with our next one tentatively scheduled in the month of January In case you were not able to make it we discussed updates on our transition to our new space the construction progress of the new building bus transportation and the class size for fourth grade For the next month or two our guidance counselor will be focusing fourth grade guidance lessons on positive peer relationships Please feel free to contact me with any bus concerns I will continue to work closely with the Transpor-tation Department to resolve bus issues You can email me or call the main office for assistance If you are unable to reach us before or after office hours you can contact the Transportation Department at

American Education Week is November 13th -17th Homeroom classes will host open houses for the opportunity to see instruction in action Homeroom teachers will notify you of the day and time of their open house Please remember to check in at the main office when you arrive Also please silent elec-

tronic devices while in the building so that instruction is uninterrupted

While you are visiting classrooms keep an eye out for our school improvement focus this year Our school improvement plan for the 2017-2018 school year is aligned with the AACPS focus for Lan-guage Arts We are focusing specifically on writing across all content areas and guided reading A

copy of our school improvement plan is included in this newsletter

We are looking forward to you visiting our school and learning more about how your child is growing and learning I am truly thankful for all of the Arnold Elementary staff and families May you and

Goal By the end of 2017-2018 school year 95 of those students entering grade 2 will be reading at level M or higher Levels will be

determined using the Spring (2018) Fountas and Pinnell Reading Benchmark Assessment

Goal Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of written communication across all content areas as indicated by 85 of

students in grades 2-5 will score 79 or higher on the writing portion of AACPS County Quarterly Assessments using the AACPS Writing
