Crown :

It is an artificial restoration rebuilding the prepared coronal portion of the natural tooth to which it becomes a component part

1 -Full Metal Crown:

It is a full coverage all metallic restoration rebuilding the prepared clinical crown of the natural teeth.

N.B. Mainly used in posterior teeth .

2 -Jacket Crown:

it is a non metallic restoration “acrylic or porcelain”, rebuilding the prepared anterior teeth mainly for esthetic.

3 -Post Crown:

It is a crown which is retained in position by a post inserted in the previously prepared root canal

4 -Veneered Metal Crown:

It is a full cast metal crown having an acrylic or porcelain facing on the labial or buccal surface.

5 -Full Veneered Metal Crown:

It is a full cast metal crown having all surfaces faced with porcelain .

6 -Three quarter Crown: partial Veneered Crown( 3\4 Crown):

It is a partial coverage cast crown covering the proximals, lingual and occlusal or incisal surfaces, and retained in position by grooves prepared on the prepared proximal surfaces, usually used with upper premolars and anteriors.

7-Reversed 3\4 Crown:

Modified 3\4 crown in which the buccal surface is prepared instead of the lingual, usually used with lower premolars.

8 -One Half Crown(1\2 Crown):

It is a partial coverage cast crown involving one surface and buccal and lingual halves of the proximal portion and 1\2 or all of the occlusal surface. It is retained in position by buccal and lingual grooves, usually used with upper and lower molars

9-7\8 Crown:

It is a partial coverage, cast crown covering all the surfaces except the mesiobuccal cusp, usually used in the

upper first molar for esthetics .

10 -McBoyle:

It is a modification 3\4 crown in which the grooves are placed at the labio -proximal line angles instead of proximal grooves . Usually used with

lower anterior teeth .

11 -Pinledge Retainer:

It is a partial coverage cast crown which is retained in position mainly by 3 pin holes, 2 incisally and one gingivally.

12 -Inlay Retainer:

it is a cast restoration, restoring the proximal and\or occlusal surface of the tooth but does not protect or cover the cusps. It may be used to support fixed-supported bridge

13 -Temporary Crown:

It is a crown made and used temporarily for the protection of the prepared tooth till the crown or bridge is completed and ready for cementation.

II-The Bridge:

It is a masticating or incising surface, of metallic and\or nonmetallic, spanning a space in the dental arch and firmly attached at one or both ends to the adjoining teeth.

1 -Abutment Tooth:

It is the prepared natural tooth or root which supports and retains the bridge from one or both ends.

Pier Abutment:

Is an isolated tooth where the adjacent anterior and posterior teeth are missing

2 -Pontic:

It is suspended part of the bridge which restores the coronal portion of the missing tooth esthetically and functionally.

3-Retainer:

It is an artificial restoration rebuilding the prepared abutment tooth and connecting the pontic to the abutment.

4 -Connector:

It is that part of the bridge which connects the pontic with the retainer, it may be:

A-rigid (soldered joint)

B-non rigid (occlusal or lingual rest)

C- semirigid (precision attachment)

5-Fixed-Fixed Bridge:

A bridge in which the pontics and retainers are soldered together at both ends

6 -Fixed-Supported Bridge:

It is a bridge in which the pontic is connected to the retainer at on end by soldered joint and by non rigid connector in the other end.

7-Fixed-Free Bridge (cantilever bridge):

It is a bridge in which the pontic is soldered to the retainer from one only .

8 -Spring cantilever bridge:

In this condition the pontic is connected to the retainer by a resilient curved arm resting on the palate (palatal spring).

9-Removable bridge:

It is a bridge which consist of two parts, one fixed to the retainer (female portion) and one soldered to the pontic (male portion). The bridge can be

removed for cleansing purpose.

(this joint is called precision attachment.)

10-Temporary bridge:

It is a bridge used temporarily for the protection of the prepared teeth and maintenance of the space till completion and cementation of the finished bridge.

12-Maryland Bridge (resin bonded bridge):

It is a conservative bridge, where preparations are only done on enamel, and retained to prepared teeth by wing

using resin cement .
