Year 2 – 3 Transition Information AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a program that prepares students for a successful future and teaches them the skills and strategies to achieve their best. The AVID program supports students to achieve and improve their results. Students work within a team and build positive relationships with teachers, peers and members of the community. AVID teaches study and organisational skills, as well as strengthening writing, inquiry and reading skills. Overall the AVID program incorporates a growth mindset approach which builds self-confidence and belief in their ability to achieve. AVID uses a WICOR framework for student learning and teaching.

WICOR stands for: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organisation and Reading

Students are taught strategies in each area of WICOR that will assist them in their learning.

CHROMEBOOKS

Every class in Stage 2 and 3 use Chromebook laptops approximately once a week. Students complete learning tasks online using a variety of platforms including Google Classroom, Maths Online and Reading Eggs. Teachers can set a range of learning activities for students including research based tasks. The students enjoy their online learning using the Chromebooks and this will prepare them for their future education in an ever changing digital world

Joshua, Toa and Ava in 2M received a Principal’s Award from Mr Barr for

their good work. Well done!

Week 2 PBL The whole school focus for this week is 'Appropriate Language '. We use appropriate language by remembering to use good manners when speaking. We also need to speak kindly and encouragingly to other students and teachers. Using appropriate language helps our school continue to be a happy and welcoming environment for everyone.
