Next term students will have the opportunity to continue their creative talents and sell their products at the ESSN Market Day on Friday 1 st November. This is a community event for all the Education Support Centres and Schools in the South Metropolitan Region. All families are welcome to attend and further information will be sent home closer to the date. Parents, teachers, therapists, local coordinators and students have recently been involved in IEP and My Plan planning meetings. These collaborative meetings are very important in setting personal education, social and emotional goals that meet the individual needs of our students. This collaborative approach ensures our students have the full support of school, home and services with a range of resources to achieve their goals. Thank you to everyone involved, your input is valued and appreciated. I have been very impressed with the achievements of our senior students and their exciting plans for the future through the My Plan process. These students are at a very busy stage of the year transitioning into work, further education and disability organisation programs. Two projects are due to be completed during the next school holidays. Firstly, the Aulberry Parade school car park will be extended to provide an additional fifty new car park bays. As both Leeming SHS and Leeming ESC continue to grow the current car park does not cater for the number of staff and students on campus. The outdoor classroom near the vegetable garden will be converted to a multipurpose classroom to provide additional classroom space in 2020. We have also applied for additional transportable classrooms to accommodate our growing student numbers. Students have been thoroughly enjoying the after school Athletics and Bush Ranger programs this term. Thank you to the Bush Ranger committee, I have enjoyed learning about the Native Bee Hive project and look forward to seeing the finished product at the ESSN Market Day. A big thank you also to Ms Heard for organising the Athletics program, there is a large group of students joining in every Tuesday afternoon to prepare for the upcoming athletics carnivals this term. Thank you also to all the staff who volunteer their time after school to support these programs for our students. Music Rocks Australia program started in week one this term. This program provides an opportunity for students to learn to play a musical instrument or sing as part of a band. POP UP SHOPSPOP UP SHOPS

On Monday 12th August students, staff, family, friends andcommunity members came together for our annual LeemingPop Up Shops. We could not have asked for a more perfectwinter’s day as the sun shone on a spectacular display ofstudents showcasing their creative streak. Leeming Pop UpShops sees students creating innovative enterprise productsin the classroom and then coming together to sell these ata community event. The standard of enterprise products thisyear was exceptionally high. Homemade bread boards, aboriginal inspired pot plants, hand made cards, lanyards, spices, inspirational rocks, silly putty and recycled shoppingbags all sold well. Pumpkin soup and a sausage sizzle werealso popular. It was wonderful to see so many invitedcommunity members attend this year including 2 classes fromWest Leeming Primary School, residents from Bethanie AgedCare and our local Member for Jandakot, Yaz Mubarakai. Thisevent enables so many learning opportunities for our studentsas they create and then interact with their peers and othersto sell their products. A memorable quote from one of ourstudents about the day was that they enjoyed “making crafts forpeople who want them so much they spend money.” Thanksto all parents, friends and community members who attendedand supported Leeming Pop Up shops 2019.

Term 3, (August & September) brings the Noongar season ofDJILBA - The Second rains. Djilba – is known as the Growingseason. As boodja (land) becomes littered with an explosionof new growth, Djilba signifies renewal, new beginnings andthe future. Last term as part of our Frog Pond and Gardenproject, the students planted a variety of Aboriginal bush tuckerand water plants. Students are learning how Aboriginal peopleused plants as a way of living on the land. This term, studentswill dual sign the plants and create posters to display theirlearning with others. Maintaining the garden has brought astrong sense of belonging and caring for their environment. Itis a very enjoyable and rewarding team project that takes ourlearning out into the natural environment supporting students toconnect to the land and boost their health and wellbeing.

The Noongar Choir opened the School Board meeting singingthe Noongar and proudly shared their Aboriginal work.

Students, weather permitting, will be accessing public transportto journey to Gateways for our CBL this term. Remember towear your wet weather gear!
