PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Last Thursday the Gulgong Public School Boys and Girls Soccer teams played Mudgee Public in the 2nd round of the state wide knockout competition.
In the first game our girls got off to a great start and nearly scored in the first minute. Our girls continued to work hard throughout the whole game and Amalie Maunder nearly sparked many chances throughout the game.
In the end Mudgee were too strong for our girls and won the game and will progress through to the third round. Jaz and Tiarnee were stars for the girls team running hard for the whole game,Lilli and Nahkiaya had great games in goal.
Well done to all our girls who tried hard for the whole game.In the second match the boys went behind just before half time against Mudgee. That spurred our team into action and we quickly hit back when Baden Lewis buried a penalty into the bottom left corner of the net.
Both teams then fought hard and Gulgong had a few handy chances towards the end of the game. With 30 seconds left and the game heading to extra time Mudgee squeezed a goal past our keeper and took the lead.
We then went on all out attack for the last 20 seconds and conceded another late goal. The final score 3-1 was a great credit to the boys who fought hard all the way and only just went down to a very good Mudgee Public Team.
Stars for our team included Jayden Finney who Captained the team and ran hard all day, Noah and Daine who played in goal and Kaden and Lachlan who attacked and defended hard all game.
All the boys and girls should be very proud of their efforts.David Lewis Principal
This week we are focusing on "Thinking before we act". This can be in the playground and classroom as it is important for young people to consider the consequences of their actions before they act.
I saw a story last night on Sunday Night in which a young girl lost her life unnecessarily due to a decision she made without considering the consequences.
It is important that from an early age we teach children that their actions will have consequences.
This is not to say we should stop kids being kids, we should just teach them to consider if this is the best thing to do.
At assembly this morning we spoke about telling a teacher if something was not right or someone was not treating you nicely. It is our job to ensure that students go home happy and learning from school each day.
As you would be aware we have a zero tolerance approach to bullying at Gulgong Public School and teachers will deal with issues immediately to ensure we protect all students.
Congratulations to all our winners from the Athletics Carnival last week and best of luck to those students participating in Zone Athletics in Mudgee next term on the 16th August.
Our boys basketball team also played last week in Wellington going down in a close match by 4 points. The boys did a great job considering only 1 of them plays Basketball. Thanks also to Mr Howes for taking the team over to Wellington for the day.
