TERM 2 WEEK 3 | 12th May 2016 Dear Families As many of you would be aware, Janine is on long service leave unl the end of this term and I am principal while she is away. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week at Bungaree and wish to thank the staff, students and families for making me feel welcome. I’m not all that interesng so I won’t spend me in this newsleer talking about me… rather, I’d like to talk about some of the great things I’ve already seen at Bungaree and hopefully get you excited about the things that connue to happen as the school strives to offer your child the best educaon possible. Walking around the school and spending me in classrooms two things are perfectly clear: 1. Teachers and staff are commied to providing the best educaon to your child. 2. The students are hard workers. This tells me one thing – your children are in the right place to be highly successful individuals. Explicit Teaching is all about seng high standards for children and seng the environment for them to achieve these standards. We do this through a very clear model to ensure learning is scaffolded and to ensure there is a consistent approach across the school. At Bungaree we use the John Fleming Explicit Teaching Model. We use ‘warm-ups’ to move knowledge from our short term to long term memory as well as the ‘I do, We do, You do’ approach to succinctly structure lessons, giving students a step by step ap- proach when learning a new concept. I menoned John Fleming in the above paragraph. John is a highly regarded, research driven educaon consultant who runs professional learning and coaching to schools across Australia. John is very busy and difficult to get….We are very lucky to be able to employ his services every term. John was once asked in an interview, “What makes a good teacher”? His response was the following: “I think a good teacher knows what evidence-based research is telling them is good pracce; knows what that actually looks like in the classroom, and exactly what acvies they are doing in the classroom in terms of curriculum. They measure how the group as a whole are going, how individual students are going, and they have very clear goals set in their mind about what their high performing students should be achieving in reading, wring and maths. But, also, they know they have very clear goals for the kids who need extra support, they know how to deliver that extra support. Basically, they’re not teaching and hoping that the kids do well. They actually know that if they deliver the curriculum in this parcular way, that they will get good results and every kid will reach their potenal - whatever that is. Dear Families
As many of you would be aware, Janine is on long service leave un�l the end of this term and I am principal
while she is away. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week at Bungaree and wish to thank the staff, students

A great big thank you to all of the Mums and Grandmothers who attended our Mother's Day Morning Tea in Rm 19 and 20 on Friday 6th May. It was wonderful to see the children having such a fabulous time with you in their school setting.

As I walk around Bungaree classrooms this is exactly what I’m looking for and exactly what I see:
-Teachers doing what they do best – teaching!
-Teachers se/ng clear goals for each and every child.
-Teachers giving children individual support where needed.
-Curriculum being delivered in a deliberate and specific way.
-And, most importantly, teachers having outstanding rela�onships with their students - This, in my opinion is the number 1 priority for all
staff!
I think you should be delighted that your children a%end a school like Bungaree. From what I’ve seen in my first few days at this school,
this is a school determined to give all children in our care the best educa�on we possibly can.
I feel as though I’m really going to like it here…

IMMUNISATION
It is a requirement by the Education Department to receive all immunisation records
from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) print out. This can be obtained by
calling 1800653809.
If your child’s immunisations are not recorded on ACIR it may affect your family payments.
An immunisation provider will assist children not up–to-date or vaccinated overseas to receive
the correct scheduled vaccinations and have their records put on ACIR.
The nurses at the immunisation clinic at Kwinana Community Health 94192266 can also provide
this service.
