St Brigid’s acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community.

We pay our respect to them and their cultures, and to the elders both past and present. We commit to actively work for justice and peace.

Dear Families of St Brigid’s,

The theme of shepherds and sheep is a recurring one in the bible. In the Old Testament, God is sometimes portrayed as a shepherd. In passages like Jeremiah 23:1-6, God promises to raise up new shepherds who will follow in David’s legacy. So it is natural that Jesus compares himself to a shepherd in the Gospel of this Sunday.

Being a shepherd is not an easy job. Sheep are pretty defenseless creatures, and shepherds have to protect them from predators like lions and wolves. Sheep also have a tendency to stray from the flock, making them especially vulnerable. Shepherds endure the hardships of being away from their homes and putting up with simple foods and harsh weather whilst pasturing sheep. Their lives can be endangered when confronted by desperate predators. Sheep learn to recognise their shepherd’s voice, which makes it easier to separate different flocks when flocks are mixed together for grazing or protection.

When is it reassuring to know that Jesus is watching out for you? How do you see yourself helping to “shepherd” other people as a follower of Jesus?

Welcome back to Term Two as we continue our Blended Learning Environment. It has certainly been an interesting few weeks with stay at home, social distancing, ANZAC Day on your driveway and the other changes the Covid-19 crisis has created and a rocky start to school with competing priorities and advice. In years to come these holiday stories will make for some very interesting reading! Thank you to the overwhelming support from families as we manage this new learning and living environment. My best wishes go out to all families as you manage home and work life and especially those with elderly and overseas family members. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff here at St Brigid’s who have adapted, modified, and planned and still managed to keep smiling.

Here at St Brigid’s the first 2 weeks of school are a continuation of how we left off in the first term. Our school is open for those children of essential workers and those who have no other means of support for their children at home. All students complete blended learning either at home or here at school. There will be no difference in the work being covered in either place. This is new learning for all of us and there will be times where technology may not work, and/or learning tasks prove too challenging. We ask that you be patient with us and if you have concerns, please make contact with your child’s teacher. From Week 3 which will commence on Monday 11

th of May we will start our transition back to school for students.

We will be able to give a clearer picture of this towards the end of the week following meetings and further advice from the Catholic Schools Office and Catholic Schools NSW.

Following these few weeks of timed returning, we hope we can welcome back all students but this will be dependent on the progress of Covid-19 (More information on this as that week approaches). If you would prefer to keep your children at home until there is greater surety around the Covid-19 concern then this is completely okay too.

ANZAC DAY: It was wonderful to see the nation supporting ANZAC Day on Saturday. There were moving stories of street memorials and online tributes. St Brigid’s students have a proud reputation for supporting the local ANZAC March and Service. Whilst we could not be a part of this in 2020 it was wonderful to see and hear the many different ways in which our families commemorated this special day in our Nation’s history.
