“If parents want to give their children a gift, the best thing
they can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be
intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning.”
- Carol Dweck
Principals Desk
Welcome to Week 6 a rapidly disappearing term at Telegraph Point Public School. It is hard to believe that yesterday we have actually reached the mid-point of Term 1! The last two weeks have been extremely busy ones for our school, with a huge range of experiences and opportunities for all members of our community.
For parents of Kindergarten students it has been a whirlwind opening to your children’s primary school lives
with so many incredible experiences and also wonderful achievements throughout their first five weeks of
‘big school’. For all other students it has been an incredibly busy and diverse learning period as we set up
the new learning year, with so much happening in classrooms and through extra-curricular activities!
P&C AGM
Last Monday evening saw the Telegraph Point Public School P&C Association host their Annual General Meeting of the new school year. It was exciting to see so many new faces in attendance in this meeting.
Communication
From time to time, an issue may arise with your child whilst at school. If this happens, please do not approach other students at school. It is appropriate to communicate any concerns you may have with the classroom teacher, Ms Anna Hoelzl - Assistant Principal or myself.
Learning Goals
Over the next four weeks, our class teachers will have individual time with each student to discuss their learning goals for the rest of this term. Students will identify specific areas in their English and Mathematical learning where they would like to improve. These informal, guided conversations are significant in assisting students to develop a deeper understanding of themselves as a learner and identify the steps they need to take in order to achieve their set goals. This process is important and powerful in supporting students to take ownership of their learning journey.

who are parliamentarians and sports leaders will be officially inducted into their positions.

Due to our increasing student numbers, this year the Library Van will provide a service for Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students only. Library Van dates for Term 1 include:
Friday 13 March
Friday 3 April
Breakfast Club is now on Wednesdays
Breakfast Club will continue this year and will operate on Wednesdays mornings. Mrs Kerrie Robb - School Learning Support Officer will assist parent volunteers in its functioning. Breakfast Club is open to all students from 8.30am onwards.
Crunch ‘n Sip
Once again Telegraph Point Public School is a ‘Crunch ‘n Sip’ school. This means that all students from K-6 are asked to bring fresh fruit and or vegetables to eat during the morning session. This is a great way to promote healthy eating and set positive life-long habits. Easy ideas are grapes, carrots, apples, capsicum, watermelon or cherry tomatoes.
School Visitors
Just a reminder that all visitors to the school, including parents picking up their children, must report to the office. In most cases the office staff will send for the student reducing the amount of disruption to teaching and also monitoring who is on the school site. This is a security and Health and Safety requirement and we appreciate your help in this matter.
Medical Information
The school is also updating our student’s medical information and updating any health care plans.
We welcome information from parents about your child's health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school. Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your child. It is also important that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new health condition develops.
Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents. Please provide this information in writing to the principal. This will greatly assist our school in planning to support your child’s health and wellbeing.
Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.
We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s health needs or as otherwise required by law.
School Enews
We are looking forward to another great year. As always, we expect each term to be very busy, full of wonderful opportunities for our students. I encourage all families to read the newsletter each fortnight as this is our primary means of communicating with you and informing you of school events. If you have not previously registered for School Enews, please do so as soon as possible. It is an easy process and will allow you to receive the newsletter and notes via email or app. Details on how to register are included in this newsletter.
School Hats
Please remind your child to bring their school hat for recess and lunch. It is far too hot to be outside without a hat and children without a hat will be asked to sit under the shelter during playtimes. The school has appropriate hats in stock if you need to purchase one.
Please remember that if you require financial assistance to help pay for any school activity this year, to come and see me. We have a number of ways in which to help and please rest assured, all details are kept totally confidential. We would like to see all students involved in our planned activities and if finance is a problem please make contact.
I am looking forward to meeting with you and discussing the educational needs of your children and
working together to provide a quality education for all students at Telegraph Point Public School.

Clean Up Australia Day
Last Friday, all students participated in the annual Clean Up Australia Day. This
year, students and teachers cleaned up inside our school and gave our classrooms,
store rooms and sheds a really good “spring clean”.
The Big Vegie Crunch
We celebrated ‘Vegetable Week’ on Tuesday 3 March, by having a taste and
name the vegetable game. The Parliamentarians, Mr Chalmers and Mr Jacobs
were the lucky contestants. The hilarious, entertaining and amusing faces being
pulled by the contestants had the audience giggling and laughing, which turned
into cheering for the winner, Shelby! While watching the antics, students in the
audience were happily crunching on a vast variety of fresh fruits and vegetables
kindly donated by Ken Little’s Quality Fruit and Vegetables, Port Macquarie.
Thank you for supporting our school community. Also, a huge thank you to
Shelby, Taelor, Anders, Lily, Hannah, Tiger, Mr Chalmers and Mr Jacobs for
eagerly volunteering to be the contestants! Thank you to all who were involved
in helping create a fun and entertaining celebration for the students of Telegraph
Point Public School!
STEWART HOUSE DONATION DRIVE
An envelope has been sent home this week for the annual Stewart House
Donation Drive. Stewart House is NSW Public Education’s Charity of Choice,
and has helped thousands of children over the almost 90 years it has been
operating. Children are able to attend a 12 day program designed to develop
their social and emotional skills, build self esteem and improve their overall
wellbeing.
This is a valuable and very worthwhile program, which is run entirely from
charitable donations.
If you would like to help, please complete the back of the envelope and enclose a $2 coin (or equivalent). Return envelopes (and money) to the school office by 9 April 2020. All envelopes will be returned to Stewart House and will be included in a draw to win a holiday worth $4000.
