Interim reports will be handed out the week prior, with booking sheets on the front windows of the College so that students or parents can book interview times. Due to the cold weather last Monday, the Swimming Sports finished early, with the relay events being postponed until Thursday. With much warmer weather, many students enthusiastically participated, however the overall team placing remained the same, with Bogong winning. Congratulations to all participants, parent visitors and to the staff that ran the two days. Special thanks to Jenny Farrington for organising the event. Bogong House Captain, Ben, and Vice Captain, Ella, with the Shield. Congratulations to the Swimming Age Group Champions! Left to right: Freya, Amber, Georgia, Tommi, Clay, Claire, Rosie, Ryan, Rhys, Charlie and Lizzie. Absent on the day : Hayden (13 year age group). Science has always been a hands on class at our school, with lots of experiments aiming to keep students engaged. Although boiling water seems to be a boring thing to do, the teachers incorporate learning along the way, which will help students understand more about the world we live in and the scientific explanations behind everyday things they see and experience.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Parents,
What a fantastic day and display by our students at
yesterday’s interschool swimming competition in
Wodonga. Several of our students are now through to
the next round of competition later this month. Well
done to all of the students who competed on the day.
Unbelievably, we are now at the half way point of Term
1. Year 12 subjects will be completing their first round
of SACs and all subjects across the college will be
continuing to assess student learning over the next
couple of weeks before the Term 1 Interim Reports are
completed and sent home at the end of this term.
Whilst at school, students are encouraged to have a
water bottle. Please encourage your child(ren) to drink
water throughout the school day, but it is important that
their water bottle isn’t leaking over their school work.
As a college we are invested in educating all students to
be the best they can be and to develop excellent social
and moral behaviours. As a part of this learning, we
have introduced an extension to the already existing
‘House Competition’. Along with the sporting
carnivals, we will now be also rewarding students with
house points for various other tasks and behaviours.
The house with the most points at the end of each term
will negotiate a reward. At this stage Bogong is out in
front, followed by Hotham, and Feathertop in third
position.
Attendance at school is compulsory, and the
Department of Education has an initiative entitled “It’s
Not OK To Be Away”. The two key messages of the
initiative is that; student attendance is the responsibility
of everyone in the community and that effective schools
monitor, communicate, and implement strategies to
improve regular attendance, as this is a pre-requisite for
improving educational outcomes. As a college we have
a system in place, but if you are having any trouble, or
see a way of improving our current system, please
contact me at the school for a discussion.
Thankyou
Ross Wilson

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?
The first day for the ADVANCE CFA Youth Crew was held last week at Mount Beauty. The new Year 9s in the program are: Flynn, Ila, Molly, Acacia, Rhys, Allie, Jonah, Alina, Nic, Brooke, Georgia and Tameka. The continuing Year 10 students are: Mitch C, Lizzie, Will H, Rose, Mitch J, Cooper, Clare, Jess and Annabelle. Students commit to 6 days of training, a Graduation Day (including competitions) and a Year 9 camp. Students are joined by Corryong College and Tallangatta Secondary College students and venues are rotated through to help reduce travel fatigue. The students learn firefighting skills, as well as team work and social skills. Although this program can only take a set number of students each year, students can still volunteer to help out with their local CFA brigades, in a range of roles. Even helping make sandwiches in an emergency can be a big help.
