l Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 1 is fast coming to a close and we have two very busy weeks ahead full
of learning and exciting events. This week teachers are involved in Stage
planning days which facilitates the development of teaching program
content, assessments and the refinement of reports in preparation for Term 2.
Although we do not schedule teacher/parent meetings this term, remember
that Figtree Heights Public School has an open door policy regarding
communication and teachers are receptive to interview requests at any
time.
NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Learning 2 Lead Day
Last Friday, twenty of our Stage 3 students accompanied Miss Pearce to a
PSC L2L Day at Figtree High School. The PSC Sport Leadership program
supports schools in developing leadership opportunities for students through
sport and physical activity. The focus of the day for Stage 3 students is the
development of skills to enable them to then lead playground physical
activity and games with younger students on their return to school. This fits
perfectly with our current review of the use of our playground and our goal
to promote a wider range of sporting activities throughout the week. Thank
you Miss Pearce for organising what sounded like a valuable but very hot
day.
Parking Concerns
A reminder that the No Parking, or commonly referred to as a Drop Off or Kiss
and Go, zone near our St George Street entrance is definitely NOT a parking
zone. This facility allows for many of our children to be safely dropped at
school. The time limit on cars to be there is 2 minutes so parents have time to
assist their children get safely out of the car. Drivers must stay within 3 meters
of your car which does not allow you to walk your child into the school
grounds. Last week we had parents who parked and were absent for over 10
minutes as they attended to other business. Please be aware that cars
parked within 3 metres of double lines are also breaking the law as it forces
cars to cross over the double lines to pass. We also had parents witness
another parent verbally abusing a driver who was trying to pass their car – if
you are merging into the traffic flow from being parked, you do not have
right of way. Courtesy and patience will help this congested area work well.
The safety of our students is paramount. Consequently, we have requested
police do a drive by in the coming weeks to monitor this area. Currently fines
for overstaying in a ‘drop and kiss’ zone or for leaving your car exceeds $180
and two demerit points. Parking in a no stopping zone or a bus stop exceeds
$327 and two merit points.
HEALTHY FOOD – Big Vegie Crunch Day
This week is healthy eating week and this Thursday is ‘Big Vegie Crunch Day’.
Let’s see everyone increasing their intake of vegetables, especially on
Thursday! I love crunchy celery, and carrot sticks for my snacks. If you’re on
the lookout for healthy lunch box ideas the following website may be helpful.
