LAST TIME OUT } TSU fell victim to two free throws from Tennessee Tech’s Torrance Rowe with 0.5 seconds left in an 81-79 Ohio Valley Conference road loss at the Eblen Center on Thursday night. } Keron DeShields scored a career-high 37 points, and Tahjere McCall secured his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.} The Tigers (14-6, 5-2 OVC) held a 43-33 halftime edge, but Tennessee Tech (15-7, 7-2 OVC) outscored TSU by a 48-36 margin in the second half.
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE } Entering Saturday with an 8-16 overall record, Jack-sonville State is led by a duo of double-digit scorers in Malcolm Drumwright (14.0 ppg)and Erik Durham (12.6 ppg). } The Gamecocks were selected to finish fifth in the OVC East Division in the preseason poll and are currently fifth in the conference standings. } JSU has gone 5-6 at home at the Pete Mathews Coli-seum and is coming off a 72-63 loss versus Belmont on Jan. 28.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. JACKSONVILLE STATE } TSU holds a 15-11 lead in the all-time series versus Jacksonville State. } The Tigers have won five of the last seven meetings between the two sides. } The two teams first met during the 1999-00 season. } There have been 12 seasons where the teams have met twice in a season, and all but three resulted in a split. The only exceptions are in ‘04-05, ‘08-09 and ‘12-13 when TSU swept the season series.
LAST SEASON VS. JACKSONVILLE STATE } The two sides split last year’s meetings with both teams winning at home. } In the first meeting on Jan. 31 in Nashville, TSU trailed Jacksonville State by 15 points with 13 minutes remain-ing before strorming back for a 45-43 win. } When the two teams met in Jacksonville, the Game-cocks earned a 55-50 win. } Demontez Loman led TSU by averaging 11.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game last season versus JSU.
THIS GUARD IS ON FIRE } Redshirt senior guard Keron DeShields has scored a combined 70 points in his last two games. } The 6’2 guard put up 33 points at Belmont on Jan. 24 then scored a career-high 37 points at Tennessee Tech on Jan. 28. } The last TSU player to record back-to-back 30-plus point games was Patrick Miller, who scored 33 versus Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 23, 2014 and followed up with 36 versus Morehead State on Jan. 25, 2014. } TSU’s record for individual points in back-to-back games is 87 set by the late Anthony Mason when he went for 44 at Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 23, 1988 and 43 at Morhead State on Jan. 25, 1988.

OVC WEEKLY AWARDS } Redshirt junior guard Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 11 after averaging 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in wins over EIU and SIUE. } It is the third time TSU has had a player win the award after Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won it twice (Nov. 16 and Dec. 21).
MID-MAJOR TOP 25 } Tennessee State was ranked #24 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll, which was released on Monday, Jan. 18. } In the most recent poll on Jan. 25, the Tigers received votes but were outside of the top 25. } The Tigers were ranked in the poll for the first time since February of 2012. } The #24 ranking was the best for the program, which received a #25 ranking in 2012. } The poll is voted on by head coaches from every mid-major conference in the country.
