Does your business have a blog? Yes? Welldone! You’re driving up to 55% more trafficto your website as a result. Plus, you’ll be

tapping into the 78% of internet users whoconduct product research online.

However, if the answer is no, you don’t have a blog: why

not?

It might be because you don’t know where to begin, orwhat makes good content, or even what the point of a blog is…

A good blog does two things: It offers engaging, informativecontent that your customers want to share on Twitter,Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. It also raises your rank in Googlesearches.

So, how can you become a successful blogger?

1) MAKE A PlAn - Sit down and start planning your content.Think of which topics will be interesting to your customers. You don’t need loads, just start with two or three. For

example, a fashionboutique could choose‘fashion news’ and ‘advice& tips’. A graphicdesigner could profileartists who’ve inspiredthem and relevant news

snippets. Using your two topics, start thinking about possible blogposts. For example, ‘Threeaccessory trends for this Spring’. And this is important:don’t filter your ideas! Get it all down on paper. No one hasto see it but you. What might seem like a bad idea at firstcould lead onto better ones. Even if you only come up with4 at first, that’s a month’s worth of weekly content!

2) DOn’T WAFFlE - The more succinct your blog post, thehigher the chance you have of holding your customersinterest until the end. Never say in 600 words what youcan say in 400.

3) SHArE YOur COnTEnT - Every time you update yourblog, tell people about it! Use social networking sites likeTwitter and Facebook to let your followers know where tofind your blog posts.

Sure, blogging regularly requires time and effort. But soshould any decent marketing strategy. Blogging is anexcellent way to make direct contact with the people youwant to sell to, and by creating informative web contentyou’re demonstrating your expertise in a way which isbeneficial to both you and your customer.

Its only four months since our last article forTBCM, but it now seems a long time ago. Therecontinues to be mixed messages about the state

of the economy, some signs of improvement andthen recently news of a drop in GDP for the lastquarter of 2012 and talk of a triple dip recessionand there have been further problems for thebanks, with more evidence of the scale of thealleged mis-selling of interest rate hedges.

In our last article, we said that we did not expect theeconomy to improve significantly within 12 months, and Istand by that comment. We are seeing some greatsuccesses within our client base. The fact that somebusiness are doing well, despite the state of the economybodes well for the future, as it can only get better. However, there are many who are still struggling tomaintain the status quo.

Many of those businesses that are not doing so well arelinked to the construction industry. We are coming across

many developers who cannot raisefinance for development projects. Itappears that the lenders are not keen tofund speculative development unlessthe outcomes are fairly certain. Of course in this sector that is rarely the case!

On the tax front, another January haspassed and hopefully you submittedyour tax returns on time! The penaltyregime is now quite onerous for thosewho don’t fall into line with HM Revenue & Customs.

We have also been out and about advising of theimpending introduction of the new PAYE system known asReal Time Information (RTI). This is a major change to theway in which PAYE is administered and some of thechanges could easily catch out the unwary. Please docontact us if you have any questions on this issue.Call 01255 220044 or email: [email protected].

The general ethos regarding electrical equipment is “if ithas a plug” we can most probably recycle it.

To find out more please visit their websitewww.appliancecarerecycling.co.uk or call 01206 251400where one of their specialists will be happy to answer anyquestions on any recycling query you might have.

Did you know?

75% of White Goods, Computer Servers and Monitors plusmost other electrical items end up going to landfillinstead of being recycled!

WEEE Directive(Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)

Regulations have been introduced by Government toreduce the burden placed on landfill.

Electrical goods are the fastest growing waste stream inthe UK and currently rising by 5% per year.

It is estimated that at least 1.2 million tonnes of electricalequipment is disposed of this way in the UK.

ACR are at the forefront of changing the way we disposeof our unwanted goods and metals by offering a safe, secure service, thus reducing our carbon footprint andprotecting the environment from harmful toxins and thepotential health risks that accompany landfill disposal.

Here are a few step by step guides to assist you.

A. Visit our recycling centre and drop off your unwanted items. You will receive a receipt and a certificate of destruction. In many cases a cheque to the current scrap value of the goods.

B. Call ACR or e- mail them for more information or to arrange for collection of goods to be recycled.

As the Editor for TBCM I thought it was time toput pen to paper and give you all an updateon what’s been happening since our launch

in September 2012.

Firstly, may I say a big thank you to all of you who havesupported us since “Day 1”, without your encouragement, articles and most importantly your advertising andsponsorship, we would not be able to move forward.

When we first set out to produce a “feel-good” magazinehighlighting Tendring exclusively we knew it would be achallenge to produce and maintain a quarterly magazinegiving advertiser’s and sponsors a free of charge chanceevery quarter to get together and network freely in arelaxed manner we did not envisage that you, the businesscommunity, would welcome us so warmly.

It has been very enjoyable to see the magazine evolvesince we started the process and the two networkingevents we have hosted have been very enjoyable.

At the last networking event in January aboard The LBK6(converted landing vessel from WW11 now the HQ andClubhouse of The Dovercourt and Harwich Yacht Club) itwas good to see so many people networking in a relaxedenvironment , unlike so many networking groups who run arigid and inflexible agenda.

It’s working!

We have had feedbackfrom numerouscompanies (all good Iam glad to say) andreports of severalcompanies “finding”each other and tradingpurely through TBCMand that is exactly whatwe set out to achievefrom the outset.

As promised, we said we would move the networkingevents around the Tendring area, and this we are doingwith our third event visiting Brightlingsea in April 2013.

Our lifeblood is, of course, you the advertiser, sponsor orsupporter, without your continuing fantastic support andcontributions we would not be improving the magazineand looking forward already to Issue 4 (due out in June 13).

The magazine is already attracting attention from outsidethe Tendring area with companies from Chelmsford, SouthWoodham Ferrers, Ipswich and Colchester wishing toadvertise with us. (Unfortunately we have had to declinetheir business as this magazine is exclusively for Tendring).BUT it shows that the magazines we distribute are beingread across the region.

Don’t forget that as an advertiser your piece is not only inthe magazine but published on line in our e-mag for all toaccess.

Helping us to help the excellent Tendring Business Community

If you are a regular advertiser, supporter or sponsor ofTBCM please recommend us to your contacts withinTendring, as word of mouth and recommendation are verypowerful business tools.

We are still “discovering” more and more fantasticcompanies within our region and look forward to meetingthem in due course.

Our aim is to support you, The Tendring BusinessCommunity, and welcome your submissions for blogs, newsabout your success and of course your on-going support.

Wishing you all a fantastic year ahead.

Cash Available To Fund Projects In Clacton’s Pier Ward

Almost £30,000 is up for grabs to pay for community projects in the centre of Clacton – and a call

has gone out for schemes to be put forward. The cash, which can be spent only in the Pier Ward,

will be paid out over three years with grants ranging from £250 right up to £2,500.

The Community First Funding must be linked to one of three priorities: increased support for the homeless; better

support for people with mental health issues and encouraging community activities to engage different groups.

A panel has been set up under the leadership of Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) to consider bids

and there is £8,489 in the pot for this financial year, the same amount for 2013/14 and £11,309 for 2014/15.

Application forms for the Pier Ward can be found at http://communityfirstclacton.webs.com/
