A PI & Prem ium Rod sBot h t he API and Premium rod lines are manuf actured
under a stri ct qualit y assurance system in compliance
w it h ISO 9000 standards and cert if ied by API.
Both API and Premium rods
are manufactured from top
quality steel rods.
During the manufacturing
process, all rods are
straightened and inspected
by a battery of non-
destructive control
equipment.
Before forging, the ends are
heated in induction
furnaces.
Then, rods are inspected
and thermally treated in an
integral manner in
customized furnaces to
induce uniform mechanical
and metallurgic properties all
along the rod length.
Once the rods have beenthermally treated, through a
shot pinning process their
external fibers are
compressed, which improves
fatigue resistance. Prior to
machining, the rod ends are
inspected in a customized
designed bench. The
machining and threading
processes are performed in
state-of-the-art CNC
equipment, which results inan excellent surface finishing
of joint seals. Threads are
obtained by a cold rolled
process, which ensures a
higher collapse resistance.
Finally, prior to packaging,
rods are protected with an
oil-soluble paint whichprevents oxidation during
transportation and storage.
High strength Premium rods
undergo different thermal
treatments based on the
grade in question, in order to
get a metallographic
structure and mechanical
propert ies as specified in
each case.

Normalized and Tempered (UHS-NR) Ult ra High
St reng th Sucker Rods
The new UHS-NR sucker rod is one of the alternat ives
available for the H igh Strength line.It is a rod manufactured in AISI4330 Mod. alloy steel, with
Nor malized and Tempered thermal treatment above API
standards, in order t o reliably increase extraction depths
and flows using mechanical pumping.
Designed to work with very high loads in deep wells, effec-
tively inhibited against corrosion.
Higher mechanical str ength , fit fo r high l oads
and deep w ells.
PremiumSucker Rods
High St rengt h Premium
Sucker Rod, CriticalService
This is the other alternat ive
in high strength rods. It is
made of a steel specially
developed to provide the
high mechanical strength
required to decrease
hydrogen embrittlement
susceptibility (SSC). T his is
a phenomenon increasingly
present in wells under
secondary recovery bywater injection.
It is an alloy steel,
including chrome-
molybdenum, among
others, but nickel-free. Its
thermal treatment is
normalized and t empered.
Recommended for service
in deep wells with high
loads and, to improve
performance, inhibition is
recommended.
Plus Sucker Rods
The PLUS sucker rod isanother alternative for high
loads. It is a different
product, where an induction
hardening superficial thermal
treatment is performed via a
high frequency coil.
After the heating stage,
hardening is performed via
fast cooling with water under
pressure. T his process
generates a binary structure, where the external surface is
hardened and the core
remains not hardened.
As the external layer has
lower density (martensite)
than the core, a permanent
state of peripheral
compression is generated,
which is the determinant
factor of high fatigue
resistance. Moreover, this
superficial compression
increases hydrogen
embrittlement resistance.
Recommended for services in
deep wells and/or with
effectively inhibited high
flows.

A wide range of t op quality products to
supplement pumping strings.
Accessories
Class T and Spray Metal
Couplings
Couplings are manufacturedfrom Tenaris seamless steel
tubes. The Class T and Spray
Metal (SM) Couplings
combine top quality steel
with a cold rolled thread,
which increases fatigue
resistance.
SM couplings provide higher
abrasion and corrosion
strength. Spray Metal is a
superficial hardening processwhere a nickel, chrome,
boron and silicon based
powder is applied on the base
metal and then melted. The
result is a hard, dense and
uniform surface with a very
low friction factor and high
corrosion strength.
The couplings machining is
performed in modern CNC(Computer Numeric
Control) lathes.
For both types, combination
couplings are produced for
different diameters
(subcouplings) and polished
rod couplings.
Pony Rods
Following the quality
requirements applicable torods, for each steel grade
there are pony rods available
in 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 feet.
Other lengths are also
manufactured based on
specific customer's
requirements.
Premium High Strengt h Couplings
This product was developed to address customers' needs tosolve the growing problem posed by fatigue breakage in
couplings, mainly in wells using high strength rods and SH
(Slim Hole) couplings.
Couplings, manufactured from alloy steel with hardened and
tempered thermal treatment, were designed to bear high loads
during well service. Use along with Grade D sucker rods
under h igh loads is recommended.
Besides alloy steels, Tenaris provides meta llic and
metallic+epoxy Lines, specially designed for highly critical
services in severely corrosive environment s and high loads.

Rod Guides
Tenaris avails of a wide range of centralizers and
materials, both for mechanical pumping and PC pumping, which provide an effective wear control.
Centralizers are directly injected on rods with the
necessary grip to avoid displacing and to become an actual
tubing and rod protection.
Combined with rod ro tato rs, they also allow for an
effective control of paraffin. It has been proven that use in
wells significantly increases tubing and rod life cycles and
reduces their wear, consequently diminishing pulling
interventions and other operating costs.
Polyamide injected centralizer fit for working in up to 80
degrees Celsius. Its improved geometry reduces load loss and
maximizes protection.
v
Polished rods
With an optimal surface
finishing to ensure anappropr iate sealing in the
well bore packaging,
Tenaris offers several t ypes
of polished rods with low
and medium alloy steels
(AISI 1040, AISI 4140, AISI
4621).
For corrosive services,
stainless steel in AISI 304
and 316 series are available
besides steels with hard
chrome and Spray Metal
coat ings. All choices are
manufactured in 6 to 36
foot length and 1 1/4" and 1
1/2" diameters, based on
customer's requirements.
Sinker Bars
This element is necessary to
maintain an optimizedstring design, so as to avoid
premature rod failures. It is
very effective to reduce pin
and coupling fishings
generated due to the effect
of string compression.
Sinker bars a re located at
the end of the string, over
the pump, in order to keep
it fully under traction loads
during pumping cycle. Its
implementation minimizes
compression generated on
rods during the pumping
upward stroke.
They are manufactured in
compliance with API
standards in 11/4" to 2"
diameter in steel upon the
customer's request, with a
65,000 psi to 90,000 psi
breakage strength. A
proprietar y designalternative, 11/8" pin of
7/8" for 2 7/8" tubing wells
for high flow volume, is
available.
Specif ic solut ions to enhance rod string duration
and performance.
