THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF

PARENTING

Know what thou should do ….


#1 THOU SHALL PROVIDE

• As parents we need to look after the basic needs of our children. These include a home, healthy food, clothes, formal education and healthcare and to protect them from all harm.


#2 THOU SHALL ATTEND

• Attend to their needs of love and affection.

• Be there for them when they want to share their views.

• Give full attention and not ignore them


# 3 THOU SHALL GIVE ROOTS & WINGS

• Give children the roots of a happy family with firm bindings.

• Also let them soar and learn new things by giving them wings


#4 THOU SHALL RESPECT

• Each child is an individual

• Show respect to your child

• Do not humiliate your child

• Be firm when you need to but don’t demean


#5 THOU SHALL MAKE THEM RESPONSIBLE

• Each child should be given responsibilities

• They should be accountable for their actions

• They should also be encouraged to make amends in case of mistakes


# 6 THOU SHALL ADMIT MISTAKES

• We all make mistakes but parents seldom admit their mistakes

• Our kids learn to admit their errors too

• Facing the truth leads to good emotional health


# 7 THOU SHALL LOVE YOUR SPOUSE

• By loving your spouse you create a happy environment in the home

• Children feel secure because of the love parents have for each other

• Never fight in front of children


# 8 THOU SHALL BE AN EXAMPLE

• Parents should teach the child by being a role model

• They should practice what they preach and the child will follow

• Remember two little eyes look up to you for guidance


# 9 THOU SHALL DISCIPLINE

• Parents should help the child to learn what is right and wrong early in life

• They should love their kids unconditionally but be firm while dealing with misbehavior

• Hitting is not acceptable


# 10 THOU SHALL NEVER GIVE UP

• Always be positive and never give up on your kids

• Reassure them that to make mistakes while learning is fine

• Never brand your child as being a ‘no good’
