The 21st century really marks the beginning of technology.

Everywhere you look you will see the effects of modernization,

industrialization,convinient transportation and

communication and unfortunately .............garbages

What is the definition of garbage?

• things that are no longer useful or wanted and that have been thrown out

• a container where people put things that are being thrown out

• - Merriam Webster Dictionary

What is garbology?

Page 5: Ten Commandments Of Garbology

• Garbology is the study of modern refuse and trash.

The Ten Commandments Of Garbology

Page 7: Ten Commandments Of Garbology

1. Do not mix your waste.• This means do not mix bidegradable

and non-biodegradable wastes.Seperate the waste by throwing them in different garbage cans.

2. Compost biodegradable

• Biodegradable waste is a type of waste which can be broken down, in a reasonable amount of time, into its base compounds by micro-organisms and other living things, regardless of what those compounds may be.

• This means you have to compost waste that can be broken down.

Biodegradable materials are;

Vegetable and fruit skins Ceramics

Composting

• Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Compost is a key ingredient in organic farming. At the simplest level, the process of composting simply requires making a heap of wetted organic matter known as green waste (leaves, food waste) and waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of weeks or months

3. Recycle Non-Biodegradable

• . This means that we should recycle non-biodegradable substances which are things thatare not degradable by naturally. These things stay in earth for thousands and thousands of years.

Non-Biodegradable Wastes

Plastics Styrofoam

Page 17: Ten Commandments Of Garbology

Recycling is a process to change waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste

4. Set up physical programs for composting and recycling in

every barangay • Every barangay should have

programs in recycling and composting in order to make the barangay waste-free.It will help alot to conserve the ecology.

5. Total segregation,no segregation,no collection

• If the garbage are not segregated,it cannot be collected.Waste should be seperated first before collection.

6. 2 destinations: Back to Mother Earth & Back to Father

Factory

• Waste will be decomposed/composted or will be recycled.

Page 25: Ten Commandments Of Garbology

This waste will go

7. Decentralize!Small is beautiful

• In decentralized waste treatment system, anaerobic biomethanation / bio gas technology is commonly acceptable. This technology helps to treat the organic waste hygienically and valuable renewable energy and organic fertlizer can be produced.

Page 28: Ten Commandments Of Garbology

Improved Decentralized Solid Waste Management must address the following aspects:

• Creates awareness about good solid-waste management practices

• Creates awareness and understanding of different roles between different stakeholders

• Establishes a multi-stakeholder service approach that involves households, private sector as well as public sector service providers

• Strengthens the specific capacities of stakeholders involved in solid waste management

• Improves information, education & communication of and between stakeholders

8. An ecology officer.A point person

• we should be concerned with ecosystems as a whole, the abundance and distribution of organisms (people, plants, animals), and the relationships between organisms and their environment like an ecology officer.

9. Sue those who defy law especially Public Officials

The law should be implemented to all types of people. No one cannot sue this law even a public official.

10. Take Care of LAHAT (Langit,Araw,Hangin,Ako at Tubig)

• Take care of everything that exist in this planet.
