The EstateRelax by the lakes and take a stroll through the parkland and woodland, originally landscaped by the famous 18th century gardener ‘Capability Brown’. Temple Newsam covers 1500 acres of stunning parkland. Today, the gardens provide for all tastes and seasons. The spectacular rhododendron walk should not be missed in late May.
The Walled Garden Within the Georgian walls you’ll find the elegant 1920s Rose Garden with stunning herbaceous borders. This is also home to six national collections providing striking seasonal displays. In summer admire the delphiniums and phlox and in autumn enjoy the chrysanthemums and asters.
Tea RoomEnjoy a refreshing break in our tea room situated in the Stable Courtyard. A wide selection of delicious cakes, teas and hot food is available – most sourced locally choosing Yorkshire’s finest foods. Try our unique rare breed burgers and sausages from Home Farm.
The Golf Course There are two 18 hole courses, Lady Dorothy and Lord Irwin, for pay and play golf, set in the grounds. Call 0113 264 7362 for more information.
The Mansion This Tudor-Jacobean mansion is one of the most celebrated historic houses in the country. With over forty lovingly restored rooms open to view it is steeped in a rich history from its royal links to the lives of the people who worked and lived on the Estate.
Explore its outstanding fine and decorative art collections, many designated as being of national importance. Marvel at the paintings, sculpture, ceramics, Chippendale furniture, silverware and fabulous interior design.
The Farm Pigs, sheep, goats, cattle and ducks are just some of the farmyard animals you can visit and even help to feed at ‘Home Farm’ which has some of the rarest cattle in the world. In the traditional farm buildings there are regular rural craft demonstrations such as butter-making and blacksmithing as well as children’s craft and story telling activities.
Gift ShopsIn the Stable Courtyard you’ll find the new Mrs Pawson’s Shop, a kitchen and garden shop, plus a gift shop selling a wide range of souvenirs from postcards to Leeds Creamware.
Where to startBegin at the visitor centre in the stable courtyard. Here you can pick up a site map, find out about activities and gather plenty of ideas on how to spend your day.
