Shalom everyone,

This past month we witnessed democracy at its finest. The sheer number of people who turned out to vote, and a big “thank you” if you were one of them, was phenom-enal. America was like a bear awakening from hibernation in the Spring. The ability to elect our governing bodies at all levels, starting from the city/town/village, to the county, to the state, all the way to the feder-al government has been a long held cher-ished right. A privilege that was one of our country’s founding principles and by infer-ence can be said to be representative of be-ing a “free” nation. As we each kindle the lights of Hanukkah this year and celebrate the rededication of the 2nd Temple, let us remember both the freedoms that democra-cy affords us and the brave Maccabees who fought for the right to practice Judaism. May the dancing flames warm our spirits and fill our hearts with hope that someday everyone will be free.

Please join Congregation Beth Hame-dresh-Beth Israel (BHBI) and Temple Beth Am for a joint VIRTUAL Havdalah Service by Zoom on Saturday, December 12th at 5:30 pm, and to light our Menorahs simultane-ously.

We appreciate volunteers, I would like to remind anyone wishing to lead or assist with leading services, to please coordinate their effort a Full WEEK Beforehand with Ronna Marsh, our Acting Ritual Committee Chair. You can reach Ronna Marsh at (585) 473-4317, between the hours of 10 am and 8 pm, Sunday through Thursday. No calls on Shabbat whatsoever!!!

We are still in need of someone to collect names and payments for Mah Jongg cards. Please let me know ASAP if you can help with this important fund-raiser.

Wishing everyone and those you cherish, a very Happy Hanukkah 5781!
