Jewish tradition teaches; "One who increases Torah, increases life." At Temple Ahavat Shalom
bringing Torah to life is our sacred vocation and we are honored to be the avenue in which your child
finds their Jewish spirituality.
The objectives of Jewish education at Temple Ahavat Shalom are:
• To know that all Jewish values are Torah-based.
• To develop an awareness of, and a sensitivity to, moral issues.
• To understand that making moral choices demands thought and effort.
• To understand that Jewish values have an application to our behavior in the wider
community.
• To develop a familiarity with Hebrew terminology.
• To feel a sense of comfort and familiarity with Jewish prayer, rituals and important
home ceremonies.
• To read fluently from the Siddur, picking out key words that help students
understand prayers' themes, and to be able to discuss the concept of each prayer in
English.
• To be able to walk into any synagogue and participate in holiday and Shabbat
services.
• To act in accordance with Jewish values when faced with a moral dilemma.
At Temple Ahavat Shalom we are dedicated to making these goals a reality for all our children.
We, along with Rabbi Klein work endlessly to assure that all children have the opportunity to absorb
as much from their religious education as possible. It is important that they view our synagogue as a
house of worship, a house of study, and a home where their soul is born and molded.
We look forward to meeting with you and your family and sharing with you all that religious
education at Temple Ahavat Shalom has to offer.

The Social Action Committee of Temple Ahavat Shalom seeks to foster an ongoing
commitment to the ideals and practice of Tikkun Olam as exemplified by Rabbi Chanina Ben Dasa when he said: “When deeds exceed learning, learning endures; but when
learning exceeds deeds, it does not endure.” We will try to accomplish this by inspiring and encouraging the integration of social action
into the lives of the Temple community and by engaging in specific actions designed to assist and improve the lives of others.
Social action at TAS takes a variety of forms:
• Serving the less fortunate in the Tampa Bay community;
• Contributing resources to local, national and/or international relief efforts;
• Encouraging congregants to get involved by exploring issues affecting our community;
• Collecting goods or services for distribution in the community.
Programs of TAS administered by the Social Action Committee include:
• Holding an annual Mitzvah Day, in conjunction with the Religious School, when the entire Temple family participates in activities designed to enhance the lives of many;
• Providing information that will help families choose acts of kindness they can perform in the community throughout the year;
• Organizing holiday dinners for RCS agencies and a dinner in January for Pinellas Hope;
• Collecting food for distribution to the community via local food banks;
• Encouraging the recycling of newspapers, magazines, etc. through the use of a bin at the Temple;
• Providing a Rides Program to Temple services and programs to those who do not have transportation;
• Providing an explanation of amendments to the Florida Constitution that appear on November ballots.
