TELESCOPIC COVER TEST RIG
1.0 INTRODUCTION AMTTF is a joint project of the machine tool
industry and the Dept of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of
the Govt of India to establish a state-of-the-art machine tool
testing facility at the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute
(CMTI), Bangalore. This is a dedicated facility equipped with the
latest equipment and facilities to test machine tools, accessories,
parts and subsystems to establish their performance and reliability
against international standards. The facility will help machine
tool and related companies to test, trouble shoot and upgrade their
products to higher levels of performance. This proposal is made on
development of telescopic cover test rig to test the functioning of
telescopic covers under varying traverse speed and other conditions
for AMTTF. 2.0PURPOSEThe proposed Test Rig is used for testing the
functioning of telescopic covers. The test rig is used to monitor
the following parameters
A) Traverse Speed: This is measured and displayed on CNC
screen
B) Driving Force: This is measured and displayed by measuring
the motor current
C) Wear of rubbing elements: This is checked by visual
inspection
D) Positioning Repeatability: AMTTF to make suitable arrangement
for measuring the positioning repeatability
E) Vibration and Noise at the identified locations: AMTTF to
make suitable arrangements to measure the same.
The Test Rig basically comprises of a long Cast Iron Bed (approx
4800 mm long). A slide moves horizontally over anti-friction guide
ways bolted to the bed. The slide is driven by a linear motor with
its primary element fixed to the slide and the secondary element
fixed to the bed. A Linear encoder with its scale fixed to the bed
and reader fixed to the slide is used as the feedback device.
Bellows are used to protect the Antifriction guides and the linear
motor secondary element. A number of adjustable plates are mounted
on the bed, which support the telescopic cover to be tested. One
end of the telescopic cover is fixed to a bracket mounted on the
slide and the other end is bolted to a bracket clamped to the bed.
Brackets need to be changed to take care of different size
telescopic covers
The Test Rig will be CNC controlled which gives flexibility for
programming various strokes and feed rates required to test
different types of telescopic covers.
During testing, all the required parameters to be monitored are
checked before and after fitting the telescopic cover and the same
are compared.
