BASIC TYPES OF TRANSMISSION LINES

1. Two wire line (upto 200 Mc/s)

Open-wire line consisting of two parallelwires

twisted-pair line of two insulated wirestwisted together (Cable twisting helps to

reduce noise pickup from outside sourcesand crosstalk on multi-pair cables)

2. Coaxial cable (200 Mc/s – 3 Gc/s)

3. Waveguide (above 3 Gc/s)  Rectangular

Circular

1- Cut the cableperpendicularly.

2- Peel the cable so that at least twovalleys will be visible. Place the cable inthe cutting tool. Rotate the tool until acut has been made. Make sure that youdon’t cut into the copper.

3- Peel off the plastic jacket with a

knife.

4- Place the cable into the tool again.Lightly close the tool and rotate clockwiseuntil the blade has cut the cable all the

way to the inner conductor.

5- Remove the outer conductorandthe foam from the innerconductor.

6- Clean the innerconductorwith the abrasive paper

11.5 - 14 mm (0.45 - 0.55”)

~30mm (~1.18”)

7- Chamfer the edge of the inner

conductor with a file .

8- Gently clean any looseparticles off the end of thecable.

9- Push the connector onto theprepared cable until the cabletouches the bottom of theconnector.

10-  Tighten the connectorwithout rotating the front piece.  The assembly is now

complete
