IP to 3G-324M

To day, many current IP-based applications that run well over mobile devices but

These are all non-delay sensitive services. ( Transmission delay and packet overheads)

IP network has servere limitations in its ability to support, in addtion to voice, delay-sensitive applications.

Don’t provide sufficient address space to handle tons of IP-enabled mobiles.

• Solutions: Moving to full IP version 6. Adopt 3G-324M.

WHAT IS THE 3G-324M?

3G-324M is the 3GPP umbrella protocol for video telephony in 3G mobile networks.

3G-324M is based on the ITU-T specifications for multimedia conferencing over Circuit Switched networks.

3G-324M is a proven solution for conversational multimedia based services that packet.

Protocols H.223

The H.223 Module is the multiplexer/demultiplexer module responsible for communication with a bit stream driver such as WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, CDMA2000 and ISDN.

The H.223 Module contains Adaptation Layers (ALs) for handling error detection according to the traffic content of each logical channel such as voice, video, data and call control.

Page 17: Telecom System Subject Seminar

The 3G-324M toolkit supports the following H.223 annexes

Annex A : Specifies the protocol that handles a light error prone channel.

Annex B : Specifies the protocol that handles a medium error prone channel.

Annex C & D : Specifies the protocols that handle highly error prone channels.

Page 18: Telecom System Subject Seminar

The Toolkit supports three types of Adaptation Layers (ALs)

AL1 : Used to control the call H.245 and AL1 assumes that the upper layer provides error control.

AL2 : Contains speech, error detection and sequence numbering mechanism.

AL3 : Contains video, error detection, sequence numbering mechanism and retransmission mechanism

indications to remote counterparts.

Terminal-to-model control conforms to [ITU-T V.250]

Terminal-to-terminal control is according to [ITU-T H.245]

Voice Channel

Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) : AMR is a codec used to compress the audio data. providing the best possible voice quality based on radio conditions.

G.723.1 : the G.723.1 codec can be used for compressing the speech or the audio component of multimedia services at a very low bit rate

The video channel

MPEG-4 : Is a method of defining compression of audio and visual (AV) digital data.

H.263 : Is a video compression standard originally designed as a low bitrate compressed format for videoconferencing.

QoS

What is Quality of Service? Quality of Service carriers different connotations for

different people. It is the end users who pay for the service, and whose

perspectives matter most. QoS defines the characteristics of service delivery that impact most critically his/her perception of the service.

Page 26: Telecom System Subject Seminar

QoS

the three main characteristics of a network delivering QoS to an end user are as follows: Availability of the service. Quality of information. Consistent delivery.

Page 27: Telecom System Subject Seminar

QoS

At a technical level, QoS is characterized by a set of measureable parameters such as: Service availability. Delay. Delay variation. Throughput. Packet loss rate.

Page 28: Telecom System Subject Seminar

QoS

UMTS QoS Classes: UMTS define four different classes: Conversational class. Streaming class. Interactive class. Background.

Asia:o Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo has announced that its

freedom of mobile multimedia access (FOMA) 3G video telephony service.

o SK Telecom is the first network in South Korea. The second is KT.

United States:o The first network to go commercially live was by Monet

Mobile Networks, on CDMA2000 1xEV-DO.o The second 3G network operator was Verizon Wireless.o AT&T Mobility is also a true 3G UMTS network.

Europe:o The first European pre-commercial network was an UMTS

network on the Isle of Manx Telecom.

o The frist commercial network in Europe was opened for business by Telenor.

Southern hemisphere:

The first pre-commercial demonstration network was built Adelaide, South Australia using UMTS on 2100MHz.

Africa: Emtel Launches the first 3G network.

The Current status op 3G development in Vietnam

Q2’2010 Vietnam has about 7 million subscriber: MobiFone: 4 million subscriber. Vinaphone and Viettel: 1.5 million subscriber.

The number of 3G subscribers in Vietnam will be much lower.
