The lexical and structural list is not exhaustive, but it would beimpossible to list every structural or lexical item the soldier would beexposed to.

Appendix 6 is a machine generated vocabulary list made by the UnitedStates Army Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Through areview of the current poland 722 soldier's inumaltsubjective evaluation was node on each task to determine the five vocabularyreductions. (Appendix 7) ?be five catdgories were:

I. most important2. substantial importance3. important4. limited importanceS. least importance

For our uses. a lanquage oriented reduction was also needed; therefore. anin-house vocabulary list was node.

gsing the Soldier's Manual and personnl's observations. a vocabulary listfor each task wes made. The words were categorised in three ways:

1. Basic Vocablary. Basic vocabulary is defined as those words, terms, and acronym, that could be taught in basic training or apre-eulietment course.

2. General vocabulary. General vocabulary is defined as those words, term and acronyms, comas to everyday Sugl ish.

-0. 3. Technical vocabulary. Technical vocabulary is defined as those words.teais, aod aconms that are specific to the NOS trainingfield.

Is order to explain mny redundancies ibich my be noted with respect tothe language structures and vocabulary item cited in the language performancerequirmmats for the Basic Training 351. course, it sould I* pointed out thatat present it is plased that the basic strutter" soad gener al Ragishvocabulary necessary for attaiment of a 60 3W. will developed in thematerials designed for use either to the *saii Training IlL course or thePre-ealistment course. The basic soldiering vocabulary will also be developedin the IT materials. it is pli-se that any language structures identified inthe analysis of the 723 Soldiers Manual ad the Observation Form not listedfor "0 ICE (Appendix 6), will be developed in the ESS course. Also, to beincluded as part of the language performance requirements is the Hog specificvocabulary. (Appendix 6)

CONCLUSION:

Orpnizatiou of the data included the reco rdiai of responses an the TaskInventory/Compiled Data Fern, use of the PercdnteSe Lauspage Skills Forms. andthe In-house Structural Analysis list. The 60 SCL list of structural itemsvas also used to further validate the Lu-house inventory of logical andstructural item. The actual lexical item in 72 are listed task by task. All of this information ws then used to determine the Job LanguagePerfouance Requiremets for 75.
