What is medical Technology? "Any instrument, apparatus, appliance, software, material,

whether used alone or in combination, including the software intended by its manufacturer.

To be used specifically for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes.

Intended by the manufacturer to be used for human beings.

History In the Victorian era there were no real technology to cure any

kinds of diseases. As not much was known at the time The most common thing in medicine were remedies that not

always worked and sometimes were just scams for profit. Most of the time it was up to the immune system to fight the

illness.

2014 Today we are beyond those methods and have made many

medical and scientific breakthroughs! Technology has now allowed us to help with problems such

as:

-Organ replacement

-surgical practices

-Help diagnose illnesses

Organ transplants

Technology has come this far that we can surgically remove an organ from one human being and attach it to another human being.

But now we can use artificial organs that replicate the exact functions of natural organs.

Such organs that can be replaced are: -The heart -Liver -Arms -Eyes -Legs

Page 6: Technology will save our minds and bodies(medical)

Continued About 4,100 transplant candidates are added to the national

waiting list each month. Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. However, about 18 people die each day waiting for

transplants that can't take place because of the shortage of donated organs.

Eventually technology will have the benefit in that we do not need another human to donate an organ for us.

Anesthesia Anesthesia is the administration of general anesthetic agents

that make a person unconscious and unable to feel pain. Anesthesia is transferred using a breathing apparatus that

regulates the patient so the drug does not need to be administered manually

Most surgeries today use anesthesia so patients don’t feel pain creating a safer surgical procedure.

Page 8: Technology will save our minds and bodies(medical)

Continued Technology has helped advanced the use of Anesthesia by

monitoring the drug so it does not cause the patient to overdose.

Finding the problem Illnesses are much easier to detect and find any

hidden issues inside the body thanks to:

-Medical scanners

-X-ray machines

Technology saving lives Technology has also helped people who are injured and

cannot get to help.

-Elderly

-Disabled

Page 11: Technology will save our minds and bodies(medical)

Continued Such a device is the grand care system that monitors and

reports to family members around the world. Life alert can help the elderly call for help at the push of a

button without the use of a phone.

Technology in the works

Stem cell research can be a medical breakthrough once it is fully tested.

-Can help repair lost tissue -Can grow back certain parts of the body -Can help in regaining lost limbs.

This can help people with amputees and people suffering with Parkinson's disease.

Pros about medical technology

-Has helped change the way the medical world operates

-Solved some of humans most complicated mysteries.

-Has helped people live longer

-Has helped saved lives.

Cons about medical technology

-It is very unnatural to the human body to go through certain medical treatments such as radiation therapy and can cause more harm then good.

-It allows people to live longer but sometimes it can be way to long and people can end up suffering because of it. (Life support)

Conclusion I think the pros out way the cons and has benefited humanity way

more then it has harmed it.

Just look at the statistics.

Life expectancy in EU countries is improving steadily. Life expectancy at birth in EU member states has increased by over 6(4) years since 1980, reaching 79(4) years in 2010.

According to the OECD data, on average across the European Union, life expectancy at birth for the three‑year period 2008‑10 was at 75.3(4) years for men and 81.7(4) years for women
